Great story book
This is a great addition for the Leap Pad game. The story book is two sided- one side for Jasmine's story and one for Belle's story. My daughter loves it! It can be read to them or they can use the magic pen to slide over the words to hear it read orally. Each page has a game that goes along with that part of the story! Great product!

a little disapointed
My 3 years old is crazy about any books or DVD that feature princesses or barbies so I was very happy to find something interactive featuring her favorite heroines. But I didn't quite get the success I was expecting. Utilization is simple enough for a 3 year old and esthetic satisfactory but I find most of the games short and boring and my daughter very seldom ask to play with it. ... Read more

Jay Jay and my son Evan are 2 peas in a POD!
I am such a major fan of PBS and all the programming they share especially for children. When I saw that LeapPad for preschoolers offere one with Jay Jay from the hit show Jay Jay the Jet Plane I pulled out my credit card. They are few choices in our local stores for these books for the My First LeapPad version of the educational toys. I say if you can get it-grab it! The morals to the stories are one's my son Evan who is only 2 retains from day to day

If your child likes Jay Jay...
My son is 2 years 4 months old. He can't run the entire toy alone yet (as the My First Leap Pad is made for 3-5 year olds) he plays Jay Jay for at least an hour at a time. He loves it with Snuffy and Tracy etc. This book has plenty of games for the kids to play and a lot of places to touch and hear the "planes'" voices.

Science and Fun!
My kids 2 & 4 like this leap book. We are not especially JayJay fans, but I was really pleased with the content of this book. It has some really neat stuff to learn about in it...not just the ABC's and 123's. Its content includes many science themes like Animals,Dinosaurs, Planets and Solar system, Landforms, Seasons and weather, as well as simply learning what goes on in the Day and Nightime or what to wear for different weather. The main story focuses on a butterfly named Breezy that is flying south. I was pleased with the different content that it provided, it was a nice change from the typical abc's. You don't have to be a JayJay fan to enjoy this one, but Science is the main theme here so if you are looking for abc's and 123's...you wont find that. I gave it 4 stars for durability simply because its paper, and it can get worn. ... Read more

Not Fisher Price
The toy is fun and educational but the cartridges are easily lost and the pen stopped working after 3 months, probably because my kid was rough with it. If your child is tough on toys, this one won't last long.

another good leap book
This one has a lot of fun games in a wide range of types.

It has lots of the "guess which animal/person/thing I'm thinking of" games... which are my daughter's favorite.
It also has a lot of pages about letter sounds and rhyming.

Good addition to your leap library.

Very nice book to add on to My first Leap Pad
This book covers 21 nursery rhymes, and is much nicer than the book which goes with the regular Leap Pad. Except for one, the songs are sung by Leap, Tad, or Lily, and the childrens voices are a vast improvement on the quavering high pitched voice on the other book. Nice responses, and games for your toddler -- my 2 1/2 year old really likes the book, and liked to sing along. They can learn about pretending to be a rhyme character, and also learn rhyming words which are highlighted as vocabulary when they point to objects and in the games. As compared to the Mother Goose Songbook, there is no option to listen to just one instrument at a time, or even to an instrument only version, but that is not much missed for a toddler.

4 stars on the durability, since the leap pad as a whole is much too sensitive to be a toddler toy! This one also shuts off if the cartridge is jiggled, though the pen seems slightly sturdier than the green LeapPad, and its great that the flip books snap on to the pad for easier play. ... This Storage Organizer from LeapFrog is a great way to keep your LeapPad, and all of the books that go with it, safe and sound and neatly organized. The 13-inch by 13-inch organizer is sturdy and well-designed, and has 12 pockets for storing 12 different LeapPad books, along with mesh pouches inside that will hold up to 12 cartridges. 5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the backpack
My daughter has had a leap pad for three years and has built up a library of books and cartridges. We had been carefully opening the plastic clam-shell packaging and using them for storage. I works but it was not ideal. We looked at the backpack, nice for transportation but very little storage. This case is well built with good quality materials. It holds both the pad and library. There is good storage spots for cartiges and books - they all stay in place and do not shift during transport. Not just a good idea, but also well executed.

Zipper broke!!
I wanted the backpack, but none in stock. I bought this item, and after a few weeks of less than normal wear and tear, the zipper broke. Leap Pad customer service wouldn't help, said I was the first to complain of a quality problem. What an inconvenience and a big, big disappointment. Good concept, but watch out! Think twice before buying this bag.

great for an older leap pad user
I thought this product was great when I first purchased it. What a wonderful way to keep little toys organized and together. We no longer spend 20 minutes looking for the little cartridges that allow my son's leap frog to play. I have found two major problems with this system. My son is 5, and loves his leap pad, but he can't get the leap pad in and out of the pocket that is designed to hold it. We have resorted to just shoving it into the zip pouch and it unfailingly falls on the floor while he tries to get it out. My son also has about 6 cartridges and books which are in the organizer with the leap pad. The combination of the weight is too much for him to carry and I always end up carrying it for him. An adjustable shoulder strap would have been SOOOOO much better! It frustrates us both!

A must have for your leap pad
We received this item as a gift (from our wish list) and I don't know what we would do without it! It conveniently stores everything, is durable, offers a degree of protection for the unit itself and is just so handy! My son really enjoys sorting through the organizer and putting each cartridge just where he wants it. For the substantial investment the leap pad system is, this organizer is absolutely worth buying.

Teaches Organization
My six year old granddaughter no longer has to search for her cartridges in her toy chest because they're now neatly stored in the case which also holds all of her books. She loves feeling that she's carrying a case that she can unzip like a briefcase rather than the smaller backpack case. The zipper is very durable and well contructed. Because she's tall, she's able to carry the case much better than a younger child could. I would recommend the backpack case for anyone shorter than 48 inches. ... Read more

My 2 year old loves this!
I bought my 2 year old son a My First Leap pad for Christmas. Out of all of the books he received he enjoys this one the most. He is not a fan of Bob the Builder and does not like the show on television, but he sure enjoys this product. There is a lot of praise and positive reinforcement. He loves to hear them cheer and tell him that he did a great job. A Special Toy For A Special Boy!
My son has autism, so I am constantly on the lookout for toys that will help him in everyday task. The phone is FANTASTIC! In only two day, he got the hang of the phone and learned his home phone number! The kicker was for praise, he heard mommy's voice saying, he got it right! No mechanical, strange voices! Good Job! Great Product!

Gets loads of play! Kids of all ages love this.
This toy can be used by babies and toddlers and up. Younger kids can use it simply as a pretend phone. When certain buttons are pressed there is a dial tone sound, a ringing sound, and a "busy signal" sound. My youngest was one year old when he began playing with this, randomly pressing buttons, listening, and really pretending to talk.

Older kids (5 or maybe 4) can use this as a teaching tool, with the parent. As described by the manufacturer (above) this has the capability to program in numbers, record your voice, and practice calling 911 or practice calling other important phone numbers.

So far we've only used the toy to play with during imaginative play. My kids have played with it so much that it is worth the cost. Kids who visit for playdates also gravitate to this toy and love to play with it. I highly recommend this as a great toy for pretend play.

Also great from this manufacturer is the pretend cash register. ... Read more

Alex got this for Christmas and absolutely loves it! This is neck and neck w/Finding Nemo as his favorite LeapPad book.

Suggestions and Great reviews!!!
The leap Pad and its books have been wonderful for my children. I do have a few ideas for improvements like putting all the leap pad books into a holder like what the "Smart guides" are sold in and also that the books need to be more durable (like wipeable pages and more durable pages for the preschoolers). Also there needs to be more of the characters that the preschoolers like ( dora the explorer, blues clues, mickey, monsters Inc, sesame street, george shrinks, bearstrain bears, dragon tales, more bible stories, etc).

A great tie-in to the movie...
My twin boys are 2 1/2 and they love their leap pad. They have watched the Lion King and loved the movie. We like this book because we can go over different parts of the movie on a slower pace rather than by just watching the movie. It's a wonderful addition to the leap pad library ... Read more

"Rut-roh!" There's nothing more frightening to Scooby-Doo than losing his munchies. Kids can help him and his human companions figure out a culinary mystery using LeapPad's multisensory, experiential learning interface. In Scooby-Doo and the Disappearing Donuts, kids see, hear, say, and touch throughout the book, making it easier to retain and enhance oral, vocabulary, and phonics skills while developing concrete reading-comprehension skills.

It's simple to use (just insert the cartridge and book into a LeapPad, and use the attached stylus to hear information), but this system is an innovative technology that provides entertaining, effective learning, designed by a Stanford-trained reading expert. As well, the system has been credited with the TMA's Educational Toy of the Year and People's Choice awards.

Two notes: Make sure the LeapPad book you get is appropriate for the child's educational level; this one should be a challenge for kids up to age 6. As well, know that some LeapBooks work on both LeapPad and LeapPad Pro, like this one, but some books only work with one system. --Diane Beall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning with leap
I recently ordered this book for my son who is 4. With the leap pad books your child can learn the basics and phonics and soon be reading on their own. In just a few weeks he has learned to sound out letters and a few words in the book. Of course, Scooby will keep your interest over and over again. This is a great beginning for your pre-schooler. Also check out the other leap pad products available for all age groups.

love that leap pad
Alex got this for his birthday and it was the ONLY thing he wanted to pay with for the rest of the day!

Lots of fun..
My 2 kids love just about every LeapFrog book that we've purchased. This particular Scooby Doo story is a lot of fun and the games that are included in the book keep the kids attention.

I give 3 stars for durability, as I will for all Leap Books, only because the book does not provide storage for the cartridge. It sure would be nice if the books had small plastic sleeves for the related cartridge. We have a number of books and keeping the books and cartridges together are a little tough. The chances of losing the small cartridges will keep my durability rating lower than 5.

Also, the 3 stars for durability is related to a design "flaw". The wire from the pen and the bottom of the book are constant fighting for space. To turn the page, without possibly bending the page, requires you to hold the wire down so it doesn't interfere with the page. Easy enough for an adult to do, however my 5 year old doesn't remember to hold the wire down all the time. 50% of all of our pages have creases in the bottom of the pages...all in the same spot!

another winner
The best part about this was that Uncle J was paying more attention to it than A - he said he just wanted to know how it ended.

SCOOBY-RIFIC!
My 3 1/2 year old son loves this leapfrog story. The story is the perfect length for a toddler showing interest in stories and certainly keeps his attention. The games on each page are enjoyable - my husband and I get a kick out of them too. Well worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
We purchased this book for our son who is almost 2. He was just starting to play with his Leap Pad and loves Thomas so we thought it would be a great item for him. He loves it! This book is so educational and has many different activites for children. He's usually entertained by it for over 45 minutes at a time(which is a miracle for a 2 year old!!). The whole family loves this and we would definitely recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
My 4 year old daughter absolutely loves this book. She has 4 other leapstart books, but always chooses this one. She has used it so much that it is now starting to fall apart. She takes it everywhere she goes, even has to sleep with it. She also enjoys listening to her daddy read it to her before bed! Can't say enough about this book-recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Book!!
My 3 years old is a Thomas fan. He enjoyed this book very much. The great thing about it is that he can interact with the characters he loves. It is a typical Thomas story that is full of games to help the kids recognize words and play memory games. If your child is a Thomas fan he will certainly enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars pre-reading, listening skills
My son's become obsessed with the Thomas stories and his wooden Thomas trains so this was the perfect Leap Pad book for him. He's excited to try out his skills identifying the names of the engines on the pages (he does this while watching the show too, because they flash the engine names on cards between episodes), and has started to identify other words as well. He has yet to "read" the words with the pen sequentially though--he just pokes around looking for words he thinks he recognizes. The instant feedback--he hears the word when he touches the pen to it--is a great reinforcer. He has auditory processing challenges, yet actually enjoys playing the games that require him to listen carefully. I've noticed that none of his computer games challenge his listening skills--he can easily use his visual skills to figure things out. Not the case here, so that's a real benefit for us. It took him a while to get used to pressing the proper green "go" signal every time he turns a page (if you don't do this, you will get the wrong sound when you touch the word) so I supervised him at first lest he get mixed up when he touched "Thomas" and heard "rain" or some such.

5-0 out of 5 stars Peep Peep!
Santa brought this Thomas Leappad book for my 5 year old this past Christmas. He's a Thomas fan and has been so since age 3. He enjoys the games, even though he has mastered them already and finds them fun. He can now read the story even without the Leap Frog reading along. I believe it has encouraged him to read the past few months.

I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who said that if your child is a Thomas fan, this leappad book is a MUST HAVE. ... Read more

Made just for toddlers, My First LeapPad Book takes care to encourageprereading skills while giving tots a simple, interesting story that makeslearning to read a fun first experience. BORING
I think the LEAP system is fantastic and wholeheartedly applaud the designer and company. I think many, many families will find the My First Leap System very useful and helpful. It's also so nice to find a product that does not have unbearably loud volume settings!!

We and our daughter also are fans of Winnie the Pooh. SO disapointing, then, that THIS book/cartridge are so poorly done. Many 2-year olds will find this boring and it is designed for 3-4 year olds. THIS set teaches very little and is not interesting (boring). They could have done so much with a POOH theme!! Don't waste your time with this one.

Great book for your little one and their Leap Pad
It teaches colors, shapes, story comprehension, matching, listening skills.

This book and cartridge has 30 fun-filled activities and 5 songs in a two-in-one flip book. The story side helps to develop reading skills with stories that come to life through words, music, and sound effects. The activity side has interactive games, songs, and activities. My 2 year old loves it all!

I actually maybe would give this an average of 4 on each aspect, but I feel that I must make up for the other 2 that had to leave bad reviews just because they bought the book without understanding the Leap Pad system.

Can be frustrating
On some of the pages, the items that the child is to choose are small and if the child doesn't pick "just the right spot" on the item it tells them they got it wrong even if its right. Very frustrating for tiny hands just learning hand coordination skills, Overall the games are pretty fun, however,I don't really feel that several of the pages are educational at all, but still fun for kids just getting started in the leapfrog system.
My daughter loves the books and has gotten quite good and remembering to touch the "go" button when flipping pages to make the sounds go with the pages you are looking at.

not good
I was really upset when I received this item. I had ordered 2 becasue I thought it was a terrific deal, but nowhere did it mention that you needed the leappad player in order to use it. I hate returning things =(

UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Educational, and has Morals?? *lol*
This toy was an awesome buy for our children. Our daughter was 3 when we bought it and she absolutely loves it to this day. We have seen an improvement in her phonics skills since playing with Alphabet Pal and we also value it's entertainment ability. Now that our 5mo old son is sitting up, he enjoys pushing the feet to hear the musical selections. I have no doubt in my mind that he will enjoy pulling it around once he can walk. Another great thing we could is that you cannot put together phonic sounds to create curse words. Like pushing the "F" and then "K" or the "A" then "S" or "Z". Alphabet Pal will sound out the first letter then give a quick giggle if the second letter pushed would sound out a curse word!! I tell ya, that sold us on this toy right there. I went out and bought 4 more for my nieces and nephews to have. WE LOVE IT!!

5-0 out of 5 stars alphabet pal
My son got this present for his first birthday and he loves it. it is easy to use and teaches him so much. he is 18 months and follows along I hear him saying the letters with the toy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings out musical talent
The alphabet pal carries several recognisable children's tunes (much more than any other such toy)for which my son William (3 1/3 yrs) sings and dances to. This is probably its best useful feature at this age and younger followed by colour acknowledgement function.
Maybe when he is older he will get around to interacting meaningfully with the letter recognition and sound function.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's best friend!
My 2 yr. old takes this toy to bed with him (even though it wakes up mom at all hours playing the alphabet song). It has taught him to recognize all the letters of the alphabet, and reinforces his recognition of the primary colors. It has also piqued his interest in music.

5-0 out of 5 stars No profanity allowed.
My 15 month old loves this toy, but my husband is dissapointed with the "Letter Sounds" function. Apparently, he can't get Alphabet Pal to sound out dirty words. He'll press the button for "F", and then "K", and Alphabet pal says, "Fuh - Hee hee hee! That tickles! Kuh!"

You wouldn't believe how many dirty words and racials slurs Alphabet Pal will not say. ... Read more
