Amazon.com Review

Early Adopters Pick: March 2003. As theworld's smallest video-game platform, the Game Boy Advance SP is also the first to use a built-in rechargeable battery.

Many decried the original Game Boy Advance's reflective LCD screen and its reliance on external light sources. The Game Boy Advance SP's main feature--optional backlighting--fixes this complaint nicely, but it's the wealth of other features that makes this system so surprisingly good.

At first look, you might think the SP is a sleek travel alarm clock. When closed, it's just as tall and deep as the original GBA, but only half as wide. Due to its clamshell design, the screen is always protected from everyday scratches. A small button in the center of the console turns on the backlighting element for use in low-light situations, like in a moving car.

Game Boy Advance angle diagram The SP comes with a well-designed power adapter that recharges a built-in battery; its prongs fold in for easier storage. Our informal tests found that it takes about four hours to fully charge (you can even play it while it's plugged in and charging), and the battery lasts about 11 hours with the backlighting constantly on--your results may vary. Using the backlighting less often will conserve battery power.

Withseparately sold cables , you can connect the Game Boy Advance SP to other GBAsfor multiplayer gaming (above) or to theNintendo GameCube (below) to access secret levels, exchange data, or use other specialfeatures that vary from game to game.
The quality of the backlighting is very good. It's bright and clear when looking directly at it, but degraded from other angles. This is only a problem for friends who are watching the screen from over your shoulder.

But size, power, and affordability do not come without trade offs. There's no headphone jack here, though Nintendo promises an adapter. The system isn't very loud at its highest volume, and the sound can be turned down to socially acceptable levels. The L and R shoulder buttons are a fraction of the size they were on the GBA, and thus are harder to hit. Also, the reduced size of the SP is slightly less comfortable for adult hands than the GBA, but perhaps more comfortable for smaller hands. The cartridge port placement on the lower part of the console is fine for GBA games, since they are flush with the console body, but older Game Boy Color carts will stick out in a way that takes some getting used to.

Open it up and the hinge will seek out a preferred, pre-set angle (about 150 degrees), though you can open it a bit wider or narrower for your own comfort. The hinge stands up well to lateral pressure, and over all, the SP seems just as rugged as its predecessor--which has proven to be very rugged, indeed. --Porter B. Hall

5-0 out of 5 stars Gameboy Advance SP Review
If you were thinking about buying an original Gameboy Advance I would highly reccomend reconsidering. I recently purchased the new GBA SP and was very impressed with the sleek design and great performance of this product. The visuals are very nice, and there are tons of great games out there available for the system. If you were concered about the small size don't worry my hands are fairly large, and holding the system was very comfortable. The Frontlit screen is probobly the most notealbe and anticipated new feature the system has to offer, I was able to play games in a room without any lighting whatsoever with ease, and with the new Lithium Ion battery being used as the power source you won't be needing to spend money on batteries for roughly 3 years; This feature will pay for itself over and over again. I have owned a good deal of handheld consoles and by far this this is the most innovative of them all, finally Nintendo Got it right! My only complaint was the lack of a built in headphone jack for private listening, so you'll have to pay a bit more for the headphone adapter if you plan on using headphones. Unfortunately it always seems to be bundled with something, other than being sold as a standalone item, But the good that this product has to offer greatly outweighs the bad, which makes it highly reccomendalbe. If you have been searching for a great handheld system your search is over, So what are you waiting for? There's no time like there present and these little handhelds are going fast, better get yours while they are still so abundant. ;)

4-0 out of 5 stars Superb Portable Gaming Device
I must say, Nintendo has done a damn good job with their Gameboy Advance SP. The only gameboy I had ever owned was the original. At first I didn't want anything to do with any more Gameboys. But after trading a bunch of games in at ebgames, I had about 80 bucks worth of credit and couldn't think of a damn thing to buy. On a whim, I bought a GBA and FF Tactics Advance.
Well that didn't work out to well, as I was plagued by terrible shoulder/arm/back pains at having to sit in the most uncomfortable positions to get decent lighting.

I therefore decided on getting a GBA SP for Christmas, and after some thorough playing I can safely say it's worth the money if you like the GBA's library or find yourself away from home often with nothing to do.

The control is decent, some games such as Mario 3 get a little tough when you have to hold B and pump A, but Nintendo was nice enough to allow the R Shoulder button to act a substitute.
The folding design allows the screen to remain safe from scratches and collects only minimal dust, and is great for fitting in the pocket.
And the backlight can be turned on and off, and you'll want it off when playing in bright areas to reduce color washing.

Thankfully, there aren't too many problems with this device.
The only real problem I have is that it has no stickies or pads on the bottom when folded up to hold it to a surface. This is a bother because most of the surfaces in my house are smooth countertops, or tabletops or desktops, and the wooden ones are glossed. The last thing you want is to have this thing fall off the table and break, and with nothing to help keep it in place I get a little worried.

Overall, nothing to be worried about. The best portable system for the cost.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great portable game machine
As a grown man, I sometimes hate to admit I'm still a gamer. I play Real-Time Simulations (Command & Conquer etc), flight simulators and shooters. I usually take my SP along when I want to play Chess Master on the plane, or a little bit of Top Gear GT. The backlit screen is awesome and the rechargable battery seems to work fine.

Best thing ever made!!!
I have this SP and I love it!I bring it almost everywhere I go and play Pokemon Silver. I play it in bed and with the backscreen light I have no problem seeing the screen. And, something that most people dont bring up, I like that it has a lever instead of a wheel for volume. The folding design is awesome, especially since it goes to daycare with me and there are alot of little kids that just take it off the table and drop it.I recommend this to all you major gamers out there.

Best one yet
The new game boy advance Sp is the best one yet! The design is perfect, including conviniatly placed buttons.

PROS
- A backlight (a light built into the screen - like a tv has so that you can see it in the dark with out turning on the lights) for at night play, in boring movies, on the airplane, or on long road trips.

- the L and R buttons are convenientily placed

- built in battery that is charged by connecting the gameboy to an in the wall outlet, or car outlet

- while the battery is charging you can still play a game

- you control wether you want the back light on or not

- can play game boy, game boy color, and game boy advance games, as well as the new videos available

- better than a video now player for videos, this screen is lighted like a tv screen, in color, and has a bigger screen

Cons
- there are none! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding...but some precautions
First... I'll say this: this pad is well worth the money. Mayber more. I've only had it for a week and a half, so I may be speaking to soon, but right now it does not look like it will break anytime soon. The pad censors are very sensetive and the perfect size. When you open the box, you have to put the foam togethes; It's almost like a puzzle (in fact the pieces of the foam are shaped like puzzle pieces.) Then you slide the foam into the pad and your'e ready to go. This pad WILL break easily if you do not wear socks. NEVER go barefoot or use shoes. What are you doing!? 4-0 out of 5 stars Battlefield Star Wars
Four stars (or better) is actually what I'm hoping this game will get considering it hasn't come out yet. This game has the potential to be the best Star Wars game ever. That is, if you don't care too much about Jedi. Basically, this game is like Battlefield 1942 for the PC. You get to fight in all the great battles from all six movies. That's right, I said six movies. This means not only will you get to play as the rebels and the imperials, but you get to play as the republic and the sepratists too! The will also feature at least one planet from Episode III! There are a total of ten planets to battle on and sixteen different maps meaning that some planets will have more than one map. As a soldier for one of the four armies, you'll have five different types of soldiers to choose from. You'll have the regular infantry, the vehicle killers, the pilots, the snipers, and a special type. There should be a total of twenty different weapons. The planets I'm 100% sure will be featured are: Hoth, Tatoonie, Naboo, Endor, Yavin IV, Cloud City, Kamino, and Geonosis. The part I'm most excited about is not the battle on foot but the battle on vehicles. There will be about thirty different vehicles to take down enemies with. While you are on Hoth, you can get a buddy (AI or human player) and go lasso some AT-ATs. I can't wait for Star Wars Battlefront to come out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars BattleFront
All Right, I know that this game hasn't came out yet, but it should be good. Star Wars Battle is another World War 1 game with one thing different. Star Wars. Controll a character through different Star WArs environments. Including Hoth, Dagaba and Tatooen. I can't wait for this game to come out. ... Read more

Editorial Review

It's still hard to get a triple word score, the tiles are still made of wood, there's only one "X" in the whole box, and family feuds are increasing exponentially. But after 50 years, Scrabble has had a face-lift: a swivel base allows the board to turn so players don't have to work upside down, a plastic grid helps keep tiles in line, and a handy bag stores the letters when they're not in use. The premise hasn't changed at all--two to four players battle it out to make high-scoring words from seven little letters--so choose a dictionary before play begins to avoid ugly confrontations. --Lynne Sampson ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Play Scrabble? Buy This.
Remarkable. Scrabble is cool. Hep. Rad. Outta sight. But Scrabble in this deluxe form is sublime, intoxicating. The pieces stay put, thanks to little walls around each space. You can spin the board so as to not need to examine it upside down. The pieces never slide around. The plastic coating lets you wipe it off, unlike the cardboard version which stains. Nothing is compromised from the original, flat cardboard version, but everything is improved.

OK. Not everything. It still can't help you dump the Q, Z and J at the end of the game without a U. And it is unlikely to assist you in stopping your grandmother's amazing ability to squeeze you out of that triple word score you hoped to grab with a seven-letter word. Take that up with Gram. Just remember who made you the cookies.

Seriously, I recommend this to any family or commited Scrabble player. Families need it for that 'full-body contact' style of play that sometimes happens with children or cats involved. Commited Scrabble players need it for pretty much the same reason!

I fully recommend this game.

Anthony Trendl

A terrific game for the digital age!
Scrabble - deluxe, electronic, regular and travel editions, has been a tradition in our family for three generations. Even as technology becomes ubiquitous in our personal and professional lives, a game of good old fashioned Scrabble anytime two or more family members or friends are gathered is still among the most entertaining activities! It's an occasion for camaraderie, competition and conversation that is likely to remain popular in the 21st century and I highly recommend it for people of all ages.

Don't understand why they made this
I don't understand why this was released as a "deluxe" edition. This board is horrible. It is made of cheap plastic, nothing like you would think for $30. I was very, very, very disappointed in this. If you are looking for a good scrabble board, look somewhere else, because this is not the one. I have an old one that is great, but it is dirty and old, so i wanted somthing new. I am sorry I bought this. I guess it could be good as an occasional toy, but not for serious scrabble lovers.

A great game diminished by cheap construction
Our family enjoys playing scrabble so much so that we decided to buy the 'Deluxe' version to solve some of the common problems we have playing the game on a regular board.
Needless to say I was thoroughly disappointed at the cheap, flimsy, plastic board I received in the box. I have seen other 'Deluxe' brands which my friends and relatives had bought years ago and was shocked at what is now being sold, at over double the price of the regular version. The old one I had looks as if it will outlast the 'Deluxe'.
I reduced the fun rating by 2 stars simply because I hate looking at this board. Save your money and don't buy this one.

About the "Deluxe Edition"
I already reviewed normal scrabble, so this review is just about the Deluxe Edition. I got this as a gift and I appreciated how much easier it was to play because the board spins and the letters are secure.
A must when you are playing on the kitchen table in a crowed house. Worth the extra money in my opinion. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars a blessing and a curse
see - i got exactly what i was hoping for in this game. turns out that was its downfall on the psp. its played just like on my gamecube and my brother's ps2...using the analog stick to swing back then forward. the problem is the analog stick is way too sensitive. it feels like you're pulling it straight back but you get the blue or yellow streak almost every time (hook or fade). tiger woods is actually one of favorite video games of all time, but on the psp it becomes a little annoying to have to position your thumb on the analog stick "just right" in order to get a straight drive, or losing a match because you inadvertently drew the ball left or right. dont get me wrong its a very nice game, but in my opinion the swinging system needs to be made more user friendly - or psp friendly. the load time doesnt bother me too much, but it is rather lengthy. if you like the series you'll like the game but the swinging glitch will annoy you big time

5-0 out of 5 stars Probably the best handheld golf game
If you want a portable golf game that is very close to matching the console versions, then look no further. This is a great game that is a lot of fun to play and take with you on the PSP. This version still has the feature where you create your own golfer with lots of customizable options. You can also upgrade their skill points after earning some cash on the green. Its true that the load times are pretty long. Easily the longest I have seen when compared to the other PSP games I have. However, don't let that scare you off from playing a great game. The controls are very well done although its not quite as easy as on the consoles. Also, this game is much better on the PSP than it is on the GBA or DS. Anyways, this game is worth getting if your a golf fan and want a new game for your PSP.

4-0 out of 5 stars Horrible load times
This game is very fun and has great game physics. It's definitely worth a buy but keep 2 things in mind. The graphics are good but just ok. I also have Ridge Racer and after seeing it, I know Tiger Woods could have looked better.

The second, more pressing issue is load times which are TERRIBLE. After ever screen choice the game loads and after ever hole the game loads. These aren't short, ready in a sec. load times either. It's about 30 seconds from hole to hole, 45 sec. to 1min between setting up a game and the worst is starting a new game from start up which literally takes 3 to 5 minutes. This is the reason I only put the device in sleep mode and don't completely power off because the load time is unacceptable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tee Time!!!
I love playing this game. This was one of the first titles I bought for my PSP when it was released. Granted some of the load times are a bit long, but if you have some time to spend you should definitely give this game a shot. The graphics are great for a handheld game. No other game even comes close to matching it. The real fun for me is the challenge of creating a golfer from scratch and improving upon his attributes until he's able to compete with Tiger or Vijay. I play as Tiger and win as much money as I can so that I can improve my created golfer. That's the quickest way to earn lots of money so that your golfer can be competitive in a short amount of time. I highly recommend this game. I think it's well worth the $50.00 you'll spend to get it. I hope this review was helpful...

4-0 out of 5 stars Not too shabby for a handheld game
Ok the first thing you have to realize is this should be considered an INCREDIBLE game compared to anything else out there on a handheld game (gameboy.... are you kidding me!)The problem is that the PSP is an amazing piece of machinery and everything looks SO GOOD on it that we expect all of the games to look, feel, and play better than our XBOX games at home on our bigscreen TV.Great golf game, ONLINE.Are you serious???I haven't stopped playing my XBOX because of this game, but if I just have 15-20 minutes to play, I will fire this up instead of my home console. So is this perfect, no.But it is an incredible game for a handheld game machine ... Baby Loves These Blocks!
Our 9 month old baby has been playing with these for the past 5 months. The colors are bright, and the textures are varied - he loves putting them in his mouth. He especially loves the yellow one with a quacking duck and will look around for it if he can't see it. They're nice and soft, so when he knocks them down if they're stacked he won't get hurt. I was pleased to see that they even have them at his day care.

5-0 out of 5 stars So much fun!
My daughter is 4 months old and she just loves these! When I took them out of the box she got so excited. They are easy for her to hold and to eat! They are bright and each one does something. The green one vibrates, the yellow one quacks and has a mirror, and the blue and red ones have bells inside. They are soft and light, so they are perfect for babies learning how to hold toys. I highly recomend these blocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME TOY - GREAT LANGUAGE TOOL TOO!
Since my son was a week old we've been using these blocks every day. His favorite is the "quack quack quack" sound - his eyes get so big! They are a great source of entertainment and teach baby at the same time.
They are also a great way for baby to learn to reach with both hands and bring a toy up to his mouth - they are just the perfect size and so soft.
My husband and I are teaching our son both English and Afrikaans. Talking about the colors, animals, fruits and textures in two languages is a great tool for bilingual babies!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

5-0 out of 5 stars So cute
This blocks are so cute! They do all different things. My son loves to play with them & we have also given them as gifs. It's a wonderful toy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute, soft, fun!
I bought these when my daughter was 4 months old - at the store I pulled the frog's leg and she started giggling. Who could resist? There's a quacking duck, vibrating frog, mirror under a sunny flap and jingling blocks. The six sides have different textures, and our daughter loves the feel of the soft side on her cheek. The duck keeps her entertained during diaper changes, and she loves to chew on the mirror flap. I stack the blocks for her to knock down with glee. They're soft so she can throw them, chew on them, no worries. At this point she can't pull the frog leg or make the duck quack, but that's probably what gives these toys a long life. We love these blocks! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for in the car too!
I bought this versatile (and fairly inexpensive) little mirror, not for in the crib, but for in the car and it works great! I was facing a 500 mile drive, alone with a 4 year old and a 2.5 month old who hated the car. Literally screamed every time (for the whole time) we were in it. I was desparately browsing through the toy store and came across this. I attached it to the head rest posts with the crib ties and it sits at just the right angle for my little one to see. I'm not sure whether she likes the patterns or seeing herself but she clearly loves the mirror. We made the trip (both wasy) with a bare minimum of crying. Love it, love it, love it. Did I mention that I love it?!

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter LOVED this!!
When my daughter was a few weeks old, my husband and I went to the store to get her a mirror, because we'd read that babies like to look at faces. We chose this one because of the fact that it can either tie to the side of the crib or fold out to stand upright on the floor. The toys were also a big factor in the sell, as they meant that she could keep playing with the mirror when she wasn't content to just stare at it anymore.
We took it home, and she loved it! We laid her on the floor and set it up next to her, and she stared at her reflection and reached for the baby and was pretty happy for quite a while, just looking at herself. As she got older and discovered her hands, she started playing with the toys, the bird being her favorite. It has a bell in it, so she'd shake it to hear the bird.
Now that she's 9 months old, she still loves it. The mirror hangs in her crib now, and when she wakes up in the morning, she talks to her reflection. This was definitely a good buy and I would (and have!) refer it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves this mirror
We bought this for our daughter when she was around 3-4 weeks. She would just stare at this mirror forever. The colors really keep her attention, and she loves to see a pretty baby looking back at her. There was fingerprints on the mirror within a couple of weeks already. She started "talking" to herself a lot more when we got this mirror. The first time she laughed was at the ladybug, when we spun it. She's just over 4 months now, and still loves to look at it. She rolls over just to get to it. The only bad thing (which isn't really all that bad) is that it tips so easily. It's a good toy, and a good price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loves It!
My daughter absolutely loves this mirror. I bought it when she was still sleeping in her bassinette and so put it next to her changing table. She stares at it constantly while I'm changing her diapers and grabs for all the bright colors. Now that it is hanging in her crib, she still loves to look at the baby in the mirror just as much as she did before.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite!
My son can spend an entire hour playing with this toy. He just LOVES it. He talks to himself in the mirror, smacks the little ball round, and tries to pull off everything else. It's nice because you can take it out of the crib and stand it up on the floor with the baby too. When folded out, it's in a triangle so if the baby is laying in the crib, he can see himself. I put a photo of his dad and I on the other side, and I notice the baby likes to lift up the toy to look at it. ... Read more

Simple Facts
I read all the silliness above, but here's the scoop. You're buying the HDD for a hundred bucks. As a bonus, you're getting FFXI and a free month of play. Not so bad, is it? If you don't want the game, don't play it? It isn't all that large as MMORPG games go. Better yet, try it for the free month! The game is beautiful, rich and full of opportunities to play the game YOUR way. And you don't even have to install it like the PC players do. If you don't like it, don't pay for another month. Simple. You'll still have the HDD at a price which isn't bad considering that it's a peripheral for a console and not a PC hard drive. If you DO like it, you'll be joining half a million players worldwide in one of the BEST MMORPG games ever. Find out what makes Vana'diel so amazing and see what you're missing. If you're planning to buy the HDD anyway, it won't cost you a thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars The world is Square
Square-Enix, in their most diabolically evil move to date, has taken their already addictive game elements from the Final Fantasy series and forged them together with that most vile of habits, MMORPGs. May god (or whatever diety they may pray to) have mercy on their souls. This game is the most comprehensive MMORPGs I have played, and I have played quite a few, DAoC, EQ, and T4C to name a few. The sheer variety of things to do is frankly mindboogling, and we are only 1 day away as of this review from a major expansion called Chains of Promathia which this site inexplicibly does not have availible for preorder. But I digress. This game will gobble every moment of your free time then belch and ask for more. Those looking for a challenge will find battles to be exciting and quite infuriating at times, with the imminent threat of death always waiting. To those of you who quake at the idea of leveling down I say this. There are worse options SE could have gone with, loss of money, loss of items, even loss of stats are all possibilties any MMORPG must consider as a deterent to being kamikaze. They have even thoughtfully included certain spells in game that can lower your exp loss to as little as 1%. Those who enjoy more domestic pursuits and/or ways to support their expendatures in game will find a wide array of skills, ranging from relatively undemanding skills like fishing, to more time consuming skills like goldsmithing. In short (as if those words have meaning at this point) go buy this game, enjoy it, and if find yourself on the Bismarck server and see a rdm by the name of Flintyoungblood, give me a tell to say hi.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!GREAT!GREAT!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
I am a huge FF fan so when I got this game I wa sextremely surprised....it is nothing like any other final fantasy except for the icons (ie. chocobo, moogle, jobs) But I still love it! People who complain at its boringness did not try very hard and are probably lazy cuz once you get to aroound lvl 15 and up, the game is awesome! And soome people reviewed this as a good game but gave no stars.... whats up w/ that? Well if yu like meting people, and having a good time this is for you, and there is a storyline, you get it by doing quests, and the mystery of it is cool.(...) ... Read more

the raccoon in boston
We got the pool and thought it was a great value until a raccoon jumped on it and clawed the whole tube up. We never had trouble with them until the pool came and within 2 days the pool was gone. It deflated and water poured all over my yard twice. I called the intex to let them know but i don't think they understood. I do think the pool is a great value but it dosen't hold up to the durabiaty as a metal framed pool. For a hundred dollars more i think the metal one is the way to go. Now my 3 year old is stuck without a pool.

My experience
We had a 24'x48" pool and it was more difficult than a permanent pool, or the 18'x48" intex pool to keep clean. Once set up it wasn't 48"deep at its fullest either. We went and purchased a 18'x48" that has an automatic skimmer and sprayer with it and it is WONDERFUL. Infact it has became a "fashion statement" in our town everyone wants one. I think in time you will find the 24'x48" pools to suck. You get more for your money you might say by getting the 18'x48" pool. Not always is biggest better.

Happiest kid on the block!!
Most difficult time leveling yard. Very pleased with the overall result. Our 9 year old is now the happiest kid on the block! Depth/size great for my backyard. Will keep for 2-3 years and maybe move to a permanent pool. Hope it last, as it does seem very durable. Looking forward to a long weekend to really try it out!! I don't believe anyone believes these things can be ready in "30 minutes" (even without leveling yard). Still a great buy and will recommend to friends and family.

Awesome
My sister bought this pool last year and we have since had to relocate it from the original spot was not easy to move by yourself but well worth it my dogs and kids have played hard with this and it is still like new now holes or punctures even with 6 dogs and three kids I would absolutley by another again this SIZE because you have more than enough room to get out of the way of rambunctious kids and enjoy the sun. A++++ for this product as easy to put up as stated 1-2-3 thank you

This pool is huge!
We love this pool. It's great for all ages - it accommodates everbody, from our three year old daughter to our teenagers and a couple dozen of their closest friends (along with assorted inflatable toys, loungers, balls, etc.) Set up is fairly easy, but taking it down for the winter is a major ordeal. It can make for a very bad day as the pool is REALLY heavy, awkward, and unwieldy to deal with. Maintenance is not quite as simple as for other types of pools as you can't use most automatic pool cleaning systems and vacuums. The ladder is a little flimsy, and the cover is more trouble than it's worth. Overall, however, we've been delighted with the pool and it's been worth every penny. ... Read more
