5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Learning Tool
My daughter got the Quantum Pad for her 7th birthday and just loves it. I think if a child is a good reader all the books are good... even the math is inspiring her to move forward with it although she isn't at those levels yet. She spends 3 - 4 more hours a week on the Quantum than on the TV or her Game Boy but more time on the internet than all of them. It's a great addition to learning.

5-0 out of 5 stars I use it too!
This is a great educational toy! I can now tell you every county name and capital, just by looking at a blank map! My son is only 19 months so he is too young, but I will be teaching him soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Teacher's Dream
I have been a fifth grade teacher for 5 years and I bought this "laptop" for my neice as she calls it. I cannot imagine how any parent would buy a GameBoy instead of something like this. For about $60, I got the Quantum Pad which comes with a book and the 4th grade history book.

The book that comes with the Quantum Pad is amazing. My neice is a very bright 8 year old. She immediately became fascinated by the presidential pages. The multiplication pages are a must have for any kid who struggles with math.

I also purchased My Very First LeapPad book for my son. He is 3 and after a few minutes was able to identify all of the "GO" circles on the pages. After a few days with the book, he is primarily fascinated with a making the volume go up and down, and a few pictures, but I am sure he will catch on.

I strongly encourage parents to buy this very valuable teaching tool. It can be used as a resource book for information, a game book for entertainment, and a review of skills already taught.

Definitely worth 5 stars in all areas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it! Buy it!!!!!!
This toy is SO fun!! I mean I'm not the smartest kid and this helped me way more than I needed it!!! Now in school I'm in the middle of a division math prob, and the forth grade math is really helping me out!!! Well thats all i can say, btu I bet I'll write a reivew about other Quantum Pad accessories!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for 2nd-5th graders
My son received the Quantum pad in December 2003. He is homeschooled and uses as reinforcement of what he's already learning. It is also great for traveling.
The Quantum pad is easy to use and my only gripe is that there aren't enough books for it.
It would be great to see more chapter books that are geared to kids with lower reading ability/high comprehension. Something like the Series of Unfortunate Events or Michigan Thrillers.
The only Quantum book I was disappointed with was the 3rd grade math book. The write in activities were annoying and not as much fun as the other material in the book.

My sons favorite Quantum books are: 4th grade science, the Inside Scoop (harry potter on the cover) and The Magic Treehouse: The Knight at Dawn. He also loves the 5th grade History page in the sample book.

We are looking forward to trying: The Human Body, Smart Guide to 5th Grade, Treasure Island, and 4th Grade History. ... Read more

This LeapPad book and cartridge brings to life the heroic adventures of The Incredibles. Editorial Review

This talking book comes with an interactive "magic pen" that works like a hand-held computer mouse pointer. Children can opt to turn the paper pages and listen to the story read with different voices for each character. Or they can interrupt the read-aloud session to play with the magic pen (permanently attached with a wire). They can point the pen tip to any word on a page and hear it pronounced, or touch a picture and hear a sound effect (such as "Strike one!" for the baseball bat). Very similar to the popular Living Books computer games, this 10-by-11-inch book is more portable than a home computer. Stories in this set include Lil's Loose Tooth, Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever, and Winnie the Pooh in A Sweet Good Morning. The set also includes a paper piano keyboard and map and human anatomy games.--Gail Hudson ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as great as we thought it'd be...
I got this for my son when he was about 4, and it was a great learning tool before it started falling apart. The quality of it was terrible, and it didn't last more than a year after normal wear and tear. This product was definitely a disappointment, especially after spending a lot of money on books and cartridges shortly before it bit the dust.

2-0 out of 5 stars fun for all ages
I bought a leap frog for my son when he was 4 and he loved it. He liked the pictures and sounds. It is also great for older kids, the leap frog book that came with his had activities for all ages. It is very educational and a great item to take on trips in the car.

2-0 out of 5 stars great for my preschooler as well as older childern
I purchased a leappad for my 3 1/2 year old about a 1 1/2 years ago for christmas and it was a hit!! She loved the noises it made and she could write with the pen. The book that comes with the system is broken up into different age groups so the first book didn't have much she could do as for learning, but my older children (then 9 & 11) found a few pages that interested them as well. We soon purchased a couple of addition books that were age appropriate for my daughter and she began to learn numbers, letters and shapes. My sons even got a book to help them in the areas such as bones. My daughter turned 5 yesterday and she still carries her leappad where ever we go. She has moved up to learning sounds and sight words and hasn't even started kindergarden yet. She loves the games and the interaction since it will tell you (or beep/buzz you)when you have made a wrong answer. This product allows my husband & I, as well as other family members, to sit down and spend time with my daughter learning and ITS FUN for us all!! She can even entertain herself when we are unable to sit with her because of how user friendly it is.

We have had NO problems with our leappad and believe me it has been around and used.

I highly recommend it for a child that is eager to learn new things. If I had to find a fault with it, it would be that due to so many different books available, we sometimes misplace the cartridges. I have ordered her a backpack to keep them all together to solve this problem.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware Of Leap Frog Products
We are a family of 5. Our 3 children are 6, 3 1/2, and 2. You can imagine how many wonderful Leap Frog products we have in our household. We have a lot. We want to provide our children with a great educational start in life and what better way to do it than with these wonderful Leap Pad products right? Give me a break. Educationally they are great. Durable you ask, no way. Leap Frog only warrants their products for 3 months. We had 2 LeapPads. One still works great, we've had it for almost 4 years. The newer one we bought for our 3 year old stopped working in 4 months. It wasn't product misuse, because my son was only allowed to look at it with an adult. We only used it about 3 or 4 times a month, that's about 12-16 total uses, before the right side of the LeapPad stopped working. Several emails to Leap Frog resulted with no reply from them. They make these products but only warrant them for 3 months. Now I know why. Our Explorer globe flopped out after only 6 months. I will admit that the Leap Frog preschool toys we own have held up great, especially with all the banging around that they get, but their expensive products like LeapPad, Explorer Globe and Leapster have not. I'd look into buying educational products from a company who is willing to stand behind them and has the necessary means to make repair work on expensive products that no longer work. Leap Frog is a company I will no longer spend any more of my hard earned money on.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic even for age 3
My three-year-old received this leappad for his birthday, which he wanted very badly, and just cannot put it down. He carries it with him throughout the day and it's the first thing he looks for when he gets up in the morning. He saw it at toysrus and just absolutely loved it so he was very excited to get one of his own. He loves learning his abc's and numbers, and loves it when his favorite characters talk back to him. This is such a great tool - if you're trying to decide between this one and the Fisher price one, go for this one. The gal at toys rus said that the fisher price one is just for preschoolers whereas the leappad will grow with the child until age 8. Not bad! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Buy
This book is a must buy if you own the LeapPad - the Nutcracker page alone is worth the cost of the book & the leappad!!! I have 3 daughters - ages 2, 4, and 6 and out of all the LeapPad books I have bought them --- they all spend more time on this one page then any other book. It has a wonderful game where the book plays part of the music from the ballet and you have to decide which dancer the music was written for --- even my 2 year old will sit and play this one game over and over. I never would have believed a 2 year old would know that this music belonged to the Chinese dancers, or the SugarPlum Princess, or etc. but she is really getting good at it. Other cool pages include info on other composers and on many different instruments --- this book is a must buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Leap Book yet!
My daughter loves this, and has learned so much about music! It is very informational and lots of fun. We grown-ups have learned a few things with this too!

Great Fun and Introduction to Classical music
My daughter got this when she was 6 and now almost at 8 still enjoys it. This leap book turned her on to classical music and composers. Great fun and interesting.

Bravo maestro!
This is by far the "most fun" of the LeapFrog books. My 5 year old daughter just loves it! Mozart and Handel seem to jump from the page and come alive. The musical examples are pretty good with opera excerpts even sung in the correct keys! She loves learning about the different types of voices and musical instruments. I hope LeapFrog will make a 2nd version in the near future!

6 Year old loves it!
My son loves this book and wants to learn more. On the first day I had to request The Magic Flute and The Pirates of Penzance videos from the library. My only beef with it is that some of the musical excerpts are too short, sometimes not even an entire phrase. Still, it was well worth it! ... Read more

Quantum's human body
This is a fun and interesting book on the human body. It is limited in information, so it is more interesting to the 2nd grade to 4th grade set. I am really disapointed that LeapFrog has not produced more books for the quantum pad. I think the concept is great and it is perfect for travel.

Growing on Us :-)
My daughter was not very enthusiastic about this book at first. She thought it was pretty gross. She liked the pages showing the different age groups and things that happen to your body at different stages, but was not too interested in the actual body parts themselves. Now, she looks at it every chance she gets. I think it a very good book to learn about the body and systems, but only when your child is ready.

Excellent!
Our son received this for his 4th birthday and loves it! He has played with it for hours. He now can identify many of the bones, muscles and joints by name and type. He also has gained knowledge regarding the many systems of the human body(circulatory, respiratory, etc.) Excellent choice for any child already fascinated by the human body!

Difficult...
We were not impressed with this Leap Pad book, while we have been happy with all of the others. There wasn't much description on any of the pages, and it can be difficult to get the pointer EXACTLY where you want it to go. If you don't get it in exactly the right place, not a fraction of a millimeter off, you get the answers wrong. I think they tried to cram too much information into too few pages.

The Human Body pages are fun to look at, and you can certainly learn from it, but this one is more difficult to maneuver than the others, and my daughter has not played with it nearly as much as her other Leap Pad books.

Dissappointing; not enough for brighter kids to learn
My son was attracted by the Human Body excerpt pages in the Quantum Pad sampler book which had charismatic descriptions that really helped you learn the organ functions.

So we got this book, and were surprised to find that when we turned to the same pages, it did not contain the descriptions, just the body part names. How dissappointing! The sampler book pages (same pictures, added audio) are so much better! I thought they were supposed to be direct excerpts, but they apparently embellished the sampler pages to attract sales from the store demos.

I think the money would be better spent on a well-written and illustrated regular anatomy book for this age group. The real shame is that this cartridge could have been so much more, if it truly contained the type of content that the sampler does. ... Read more

It really does make learning fun
I found that this book contained the same type of materials that my son was learning in forth grade. It was very helpful.
This learning toy is kept in our car, which makes it handy on trips.

These books work on the regular and pro Leap Pads Also
I searched for a really long time the other night to see if the Quantum books work on the Leap Pad and Pro systems. I never found the answer. I almost ordered the Quantum for my 9-year-old granddaughter but decided to wait. In a discount store I saw the books, and it clearly states on the book that it will work in all Leap Pad systems except My First Leap Pad. What a relief. Saved me $40.

Best Leap Pad Book So Far
I recently bought this book for my younger sister. She has been struggling in school and these books have been a great help. She loves them so much that our family uses them as an incentive to do better in school. The Smart Guide to Fourth Grade is probably the best book I have seen so far. She had so much fun playing the games like Spelling Stingers that she didn't even realize she was learning. What really amazed me is that after just half an hour with the book my sister was doing fractions! Her teacher hasn't even touched on fractions yet. I know fractions are usually one of the hardest things for children to grasp but she understood it in just a few minutes! The only reason I didn't give the book a five in durability is that the little cartridges that come with the book get lost so easily! I wish leap pad would come out with a storage system for the books and cartridges. ... Read more

Sponge Bob Reading & Learning Fun!
Highly recommending this Leap Pad Book...we bought it on Tuesday and my son has already enjoyed countless hours of reading, math and matching games. He even brought it with us in the car yesterday. Lots of play and learning value!

Had the whole family engaged
My twin six year old boys have had their Leap Pad for two years and this is hands down the best book we have ever had for it. They will even pass up video games and TV to play the educational games in this story. They are the kind of boys who love their characters and this is the first educational book for older children that I have found that teaches through the familiar characters that they love. The whole family enjoys playing the games in this one. It has brought new life to our Leap Pad! ... Read more

LeapPad system's unique, multisensory interface already allows kids to enhance reading skills without making it seem like work. But this book has the added attraction of featuring those creepy (but, oddly, cuddly) creatures from the blockbuster movie Monsters, Inc. While top scarers Sulley and Mike figure out that kids are fun, not fearsome, children will exercise reading comprehension, retention, and concrete/deductive thinking. They'll also enhance their vocabularies and grammar skills along the way.

It's simple to use (kids insert the cartridge and book into their LeapPads, and use the attached stylus to hear information), but this system is an innovative technology that provides entertaining, effective learning, designed by a Stanford-trained reading expert. As well, the system has been credited with the TMA's Educational Toy of the Year and People's Choice awards. The books are designed to correlate with national academic standards for the grade levels they target.

Two notes: Make sure the LeapPad book you get is appropriate for the child's educational level; this one should be a challenge for kids up to age 8. As well, know that some LeapBooks work on both LeapPad and LeapPad Pro, like this one, but some books only work with one system. --Diane Beall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars She Love's It!!
We gave my daughter the LeapPad Pro for her 7th Birthday.
Her favorite book is the Monsters Inc. There is reading, as
well as games to play. Lots of fun and learning!

Hands Down Favorite
This Monsters Inc. Leap Pad Books is my 6 year old son's hands down favorite! Although he has other leap pad books, this is the one he returns to time and again. He started by playing the games and then began reading along with the story. Highly recommended product, even fun for adults to play. !

It's a Scream-fest!
Unfortunately, this is my least favorite Leap Pad Book --- The screaming of the characters really gets on my nerves. Leap Pad has many other books that are enjoyable to play.

Yet another hit!
What a great way to get kids interested in learning! My son loves this book. At first he would listen to and read the story over and over. Then he started playing the games within (some are pretty complicated)and now he loves every aspect of the book. The coolest part is that he is reading, doing math, and problem solving all at once and having a great time doing it. I highly reccomend this and all other Leap pad books to any parent who wants their child to learn while they play, or vice versa.

OKAY
My 6 year old loved it. To many games on it not enough learning material ... Read more

Very nice, but there are way better options out there!
My four year old has this backpack (...)My kiddo barely uses this backpack. On her small frame (fits size 5 now), it's very akward for her to walk with it on, because the book ends up being wider than her body. This causes her to get stuck in doors and tight spaces. I usually just end up holding the thing for her, don't know about your kid but mine hates wearing backpacks for long anyway!

The design is hard on their bodies because the book is so flat, and with extra books in the backpack it's very hard against the back.

The backpack doesn't hold many of the books, I can fit maybe 2 in there. (...) Don't buy this, it'll just sit on the shelf!

a must for the leappad
This is a big help in storing the leappad, books and cartridges. It keeps everything organized and is great for travel. You can get the pink one to match the pink leappad or the blue/green one for the blue system. I only wish there were more mesh slots for the cartridges but you can fit 2 in each slot (store 8 cartridges). Well worth it.

Leap Pad Carrier
I like the idea of having a back pack that matches the Leap Pad. The only thing I think is missing is more slots for the small game cartridges. Very durable & easy to carry.

nice carrying case
i bought these for my daughter and niece - it is very nice to use when traveling and just keeping rooms clutter free - it only holds a few books and cassetts, which is good in a sense since my daughter can hold it herself - a good buy.

Great storage item

This may be one of the coolest ways to learn. The LeapPad system's unique, patented, multisensory interface already allows kids to enhance reading-comprehension skills without making it seem like work. But what makes this LeapPad book even more fun is that it's a Superman comic book! Kids can follow Superman: Read All About It! and know that they arereading all about it. They'll be able to distinguish between narration and dialogue (first and third person), follow written directions, learn new words and pronunciations, and give detailed, comprehensive accounts of the story afterward. Most of all, they'll have the thrill of following Superman along as he foils the dastardly Bizarro.

unhappy!
I have an eight year old and a four year old who love superheroes. I thought this leappad book would be perfect for them, but it totally bores both of them. Don't waste your money. Try one of the other books.

mostly entertainment, not up to par with others for LeapPad
This is a comic book with some games. When the green "go" circle is pressed, it automatically reads the first box or bubble of text by itself, in a nice voice, which has proper emotion, punctuation, and sound effects. When that bubble is done, the child must touch the next bubble and it reads the entire bubble again. The programming of this book is different than the Leap 1 series, which has the option of reading all the words on the page at one time or else touching the pen to every single word to hear it spoken. With the Superman book you do not and cannot touch one word and hear it spoken. You touch anywhere inside the box and the whole box is spoken, which can be up to 3 sentences long. Another issue is that there are words for sounds "ka-boom" for example, but when it is touched we hear the sound which doesn't always really sound as the written word. Since this is a reading book I'd think they could simply say the word "ka-boom". I think this has left the realm of having the purpose of teaching reading and entered the pure entertainment realm instead.

Each page has 1-3 games, which I feel are very low in educational value. Examples are "touch as many newspapers as you can in 5 seconds". They are not reading related games despite the title of this book being as a reading book. There are some games at the back, which are mainly auditory in nature. One is a pile of suitcases and the narrator asks to find 2 that make the same sound when touched and it plays the sound one time only. Then you touch the suitcases to find the 2 matching ones. This is almost a memory game but it is not truly a memory game because at the end of each match it scrambles up the sounds that are "inside" of each suitcase. I was disappointed in this, as it could have served as a memory retention-concentration type of game, which is educational-but it does not work in this manner. A frustrating part is the absence of a "repeat" button to hear the directions again-other products from this manufacturer have this function, I don't know why they are inconsistent with the basic format, especially when it makes the most sense! Overall I found the games boring, silly, and non-educational.

I am comparing the quality of this with the phonics line and reading line of LeapPad products and some of the LeapPad math products. For this critique I used the program myself to come to my own judgment. I am knowledgeable about reading instruction and educating children, and am basing my critique on what I know contributes to learning and what deters from it, and what is just pure fluff or entertainment.

It seems the big emphasis here is on just having something with a Superman theme. This product is not at all up to par with other LeapPad products that we own in that it is not really educational, it is pure entertainment. What a huge disappointment, I expected a better quality educational product from the Leap Frog Company.

Boys love this Superman Book!
My two sons are 5 and 3 years. They LOVE the comic strip format, and they are thrilled to have a book about a "real super hero" for their Leappad. They were interested in some of the learning books for the Leappad, but their interest wasn't long-lived. The Superman book held their attention for hours, and they STILL like to play with it. I like it because it encourages them to enjoy reading while still being fun. The sound effects and story lines are "cool" in my boys' words, and it was well worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Leap 2 Reading : Superman
My son who is almost 4 years old was not interested with his Leap Pad until we bought this book. It is written like a comic book and the leap pad will read all of the words in the story. He really likes the games that go a long with it too even though some are a over his head. ... Read more

Editorial Review

By the time they're 10 years old, every kid should experience the wild adventures of the notorious pirate, Long John Silver, and John Hawkins. As characters in this classic story voyage in search of buried treasure, children will learn new, complex words; build their vocabularies; observe complex usage, syntax, and paragraph forms; experience detailed chapter-book reading; and understand plot, theme, setting, and individual character roles.

Two notes: Make sure the LeapPad book you get is appropriate for the child's educational level; this one should be a challenge for kids between 7 and 10 years. As well, know that some LeapBooks work on both LeapPad and LeapPad Pro, like this one, but some books only work with one system. --Diane Beall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the only Christmas toys we're still playing with.
My 8 year old daughter and I live alone. We spend every free minute doing activities together. Her Leap Pad has been a blessing. She loves Treasure Island and all the Leap Pad accessories.Rather than complain about how much TV our children watch, or how much time they spend playing video games, etc.entice them to be creative by sharing Leap Pad games and accessories with them.

For the price this is a great accessory for your LeapPad! My son gets twice the number of cartridges and books it it with plenty of room to spare. We even have some ziplocks with extras that can fit in no problem. The padded straps are easy on the shoulders and everything is neat and safely transported from grams house to friends to the doctor's office and everywhere in between. If you travel with your little one and their pad this is a great help.

Oh and big deal about the color difference. IF that's such a concern that it warrants a trip back to the store you have WAY too much time on your hands. My advice: use that extra time to read with your child! Life is too short and childhood too precious.

The price is great and IT WORKS just as it should and more. Another great Amazon offering.

3-0 out of 5 stars Get the LeapPad Storage System instead
Go to Walmart.com. They have a LeapPad Storage System, which holds 12 cartridges and books, for $20. It has a handle so it's just as easy for kids to lug around. And, in my opinion, is much more attractive and practical than a backpack. A much better deal.

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect accessory
Just wanted to let everyone know that if your child has the leapfrog, this is a perfect addition. My son receieved the frog for x-mas, and I could not find a case anywhere. The books and tapes were everywhere, know they are all together, and he thinks it is cool to have a little backpack. Plus as an added bonus, the green and blue, are the same colors as the leapfrog, so we also coordinated.

3-0 out of 5 stars A great way to store your Leappad
I actually received this as a "bonus" when I bought my Leap Pad from my local retailer.

This is an excellent solution to the question "where do you store your Leap Pad, cartridges and books so they don't get damanged".

I have found that my 4 year old has no problem opening and closing the backpack, getting the books and cartridges out (and more importantly putting them away!)but once everything is packed up she does find it a little awkward to put on her back herself and finds it a little heavy on her back. She prefers to carry it by her side.

Perfect size when you are starting your Leap Pad collection.

This item does not come as shown. It does not match the colors of the leappad. I am returning it. ... Read more
