Teacher Review

Toddlers love to hear their favorite nursery rhyme songs, and of coursethey love anything with sound effects and flashing lights. This electronicmusical toy is 45 inches long and 11 inches wide, with a large, one-octavekeyboard sporting a plastic handprint on each key and a red button above thatflashes when the key is played. The keyboard can be played in five differenttones: piano, bells, doggie barks, kitty meows, or birdie tweets, and in severalmodes: complete songs, free-play mode, or preprogrammed mode. The preprogrammedmode is an interesting feature that will help preschoolers (or their parents)learn to play the eight familiar songs. The tiny red light flashes, you playthat handprint, and follow along until--hey, you're making music! The musicalmat has a wipe-clean plastic surface, and it requires two AA batteries (notincluded). --Marcie Bovetz, mother and former children's librarian ... Read more

good fun
My daughters(4year old, 2year old and 9 mos) love this toy. The keys are a little hard to hit but they seem to really enjoy it. The baby enjoys trying to play it but likes watching her sisters play it more.

A good example of a young child's keyboard
This is pretty good. It is one of those plastic - roll out type keyboard, which allows it to be both a very big toy and easily stored at the same time. The sounds are not brilliant, and as I assume they must have used samples this cuold easily have been improved (the quack only just sounds like a quack for example). The keyboard could also have been made better by including two octaves, and some black notes. If the makers want us to treat these toys as educational, then they must assume that they are a prelude to a child working with a piano type keyboard, so some sharps and flats would help. These two niggles aside, this is a fun item, and very easy for little ones to use.

GREAT FOR PRESCHOOLERS!
THIS PIANO IS EXCELLENT FOR LITTLE HANDS TO PRACTICE ON AND FOR LITTLE EARS TO LISTEN TO. MY 2 LITTLE GIRLS (17 MONTH OLD AND 4 YEAR OLD) LOVE IT. I ALSO TEACH MUSIC TO A GROUP OF 3-5 YEAR OLDS AND THEY REALLY ENJOY PLAYING IT. VERY EASY FOR THEM TO OPERATE AND GREAT FOR FAMILIARIZING THEM WITH MUSICAL SCALE AND DIFFERENT SOUNDS.

Not what I expected
This is not really a practical toy. My son gets discouraged, because you have to press on the keys really hard and in order to follow the music you have to be rough. It's like playing musical chairs with 5 bullies and a moving floor.

not worth the price
i bought this for my 2 year old son. the sounds are tinny and overly loud. and it's confusing to use for any child under age 3. he only played with it for about 15 minutes, then that was it. so not worth the...price tag in my opinion. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars My son loves this toy!
My son received this toy for his 3rd birthday and he loves it! He carried it around with him all day and even brought it to bed with him that night. The songs are great but I do wish they sang the words to the popular kids songs. Although I don't find it especially educational, it's a great toy for a child who loves to listen and sing along to music.

Great fun for the next American Idol
Great fun for the little entertainer. I would recommend removing the microphone (long cord) if your child is under 3 years old.

It's ok
I thought this would be a cool toy but my kids don't seem to think so. It has been sitting in the toy room ever since we got it and very rarely is it touched. We don't even recognize most of the song on there. NOT a must have

We really like it.
My son is nowhere near the recommended age for this toy, but at 15 months he loves it anyway. I got it because it was on sale and set it on his toy shelf. He points to it and demands me to bring it to him. I take off the mic because the cord is a choking hazard. Other than that, the toy seems safe for him to play with. He loves pushing the buttons. He also likes watching the lights. I personally think this toy is more appropriate for a toddler than a four-year-old because I imagine a four-year-old would have moved on to toys like Leapster.

My gripe is that there are no lyrics to the songs that are played. They are very simple songs, like Pop Goes The Weasel, but I find myself going "All the cobbler's bench. A hum huma humahummm." because I can't quite remember the words. Also some of the songs are Leapfrog songs, for example "Upper case letter are big and tall" or something like that.

Basically, though the songs are cute. One that is in my head right now goes "Manny manny moo. Moo moo. Zanny zanny zoo. Zoo zoo." Simple, cute song.

3 year old loves it
Picked this up for my son's 3rd birthday. He has it in bed with him right now. Hasn't even needed the microphone for it yet (didn't want to worry about him strangling himself with cord in bed at this point). There are enough songs that he has only scratched the surface. He likes the animations (little red dots of light). Reinforces counting and the alphabet, introduces phonics songs. As he gets older, introducing the microphone and the singalong songs (Oh Susannah, I've been working on the railroad) will make the toy seem new again. Very happy with my choice based on the reviews ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Volume Solution
I do understand how this guitar can be unnervingly loud, however I have also found out a way to limit the volume on this and many other childrens toys that do not have a mute (as I have done to many of my sons toys.) I usually put clear packaging tape (3M brand) over the speaker and slowly poke out some of the holes until I find my personal volume preference. Usually if you apply the tape clearly and tightly the child doesn't realize the volume difference or tape. Hope that helps...I am sure that this might work a little better than just hiding it somewhere out of sight when you finally fed up listening to it.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's got her singing and me grinning!
I bought this for my 3 year old daughter after I noticed that everytime we visited my cousin she always ran for the Wiggles Guitar. I also noticed that it was motivating her to sing along. We are a bilingual family and her speaking has been a bit delayed, but listening to the Wiggles and using this guitar have actually helped her become more vocal! I think that is pretty AMAZING for a toy!!

The only drawback is that the buttons play such short clips of the songs. Plus, for some reason my daughter likes to keep pressing the buttons over and over before the whole clip has played. If you thought Yummy Yummy Fruit Salad was a bit annoying before - try listening to just the first two notes played over and over and over and over!

I have not noticed that this guitar is particularly loud. And if things do get too noisy (i.e. too many repetitions of Wake Up Jeff!) we can always turn it off and my little Elvis-wannabee plays air-guitar to her heart's content.

I would definitely buy this toy again for my daughter. My daughter and I like it so much that I am planning on getting the microphone as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars fun, fun, fun!
I have a son that just turned 2. He loves the Wiggles and love this guitar. He will play with it for hours. It is a great toy for a Wiggles fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Most Popular Toy at our House!!!
My 2 1/2 year old got this for Christmas because she LOVES the Wiggles. She plays with it everyday and likes to play it when they are on TV singing. Now my 10 month old loves it too and they fight over it. Yes, it is loud and can get annoying, but my girls LOVE it!

4-0 out of 5 stars No, seriously, it's TOO LOUD!
My 3-year-old loves the Wiggles, and this guitar, but I wholeheartedly agree with the others who have noted that it's WAY too loud--this can't be good for toddlers' tender ears, let alone the parents' nerves. I'm really surprised that more parents haven't complained. It's obnoxiously (and I think, dangerously) loud, and for this reason alone, I wouldn't buy it again, even though she loves the toy. I will definitely be trying to find a way to modify it so we don't all go deaf or suffer permanent damage! ... Read more

fun
I bought this for my sons 2 birthday. I love the qaulity. He has played with it constantly. And I like the box that it came with. Very handy for storage and stuff. This isn't the usual cheapy set that you get for this price. I'm very pleased with this and James loves it, which is a very good bonus. There is a tamborine, a clapper, cymbols, a triangle, moroccas and something else. I'm not sure what it's called. I want to say rain stick but that isn't right. I read the other reviews and I must say that I haven't had the same problems. At least, not yet anyway. It's been under almost constant use since he got it. And the moroccas are really loud. My 6 month old has fallen in love with those and stole them. I inspected them very well to make sure they wouldn't come apart and so far I've had no problems with them. I've bought toys from this company before. At first glance, they may seem a bit high but it's well worth it because everything is good quality and it's built to last. All in all, this is a very good first set of instruments for a little kid.

Terrific fun, but not 100% durable.
This item is collection of our boys' favorite toys. The cymbals are the most popular! Our 14 month old loved to bang the moroccas together. Of course, he is younger than the recommended age and the moroccas are not meant to be played with that way. One of them cracked and broke. Please be warned, there are tiny beans inside which could be swallowed. Also, the tambourine was easily ripped and is now reinforced with strong packing tape.

be ready for noise
My daughter received this set when she was almost 2. She loves banging the instruments together to make as much noise as possible. The paper on the tamborine broke after the first day, she wanted it to be a drum! Overall it's a great way for her to make music.

Really fun, but not tuff enough.
My son received this as a gift for his second birthday. It was his favorite gift, and he really enjoyed play with it. However, one of the instruments broke before the party was even finished. This gift may not be quite strong enough for a ruff two year old boy. I would recommend it for boys and girls in the age range of about 3 to 6, but parents better be ready for some noise. Enjoy!

Good but not great
I bought this for my almost 2 year old when he was just 18 months. He uses it nearly every day. I play CDs while we are playing with his toys and he likes to go over to the box and play along with different instruments. Sometimes we make a little marching band around the living room.
Like other reviewers, we had a problem with the tambourine almost immediately, but I taped the entire top with packing tape and it is fine. We have had no problem with the shakers even though he likes to knock them together and on other things. And they are plenty loud! The only thing we don't like is the triangle. The string comes off constantly and is hard for him to hold - not heavy just a problem because of the string - but he likes to bang it while I hold it. This is not high quality, but makes a nice first introduction to musical instruments. ... Read more

Good piano but the stool breaks easily
I bought this last Christmas for my three year old and five year old. Thesound of the piano is a little off, but all in all the piano is nice for the price. The leg of the stool breaks very easily. Don't buy unless you can fix.

Good product for the price!
My wife and I knew we wanted to get a toy piano for our little girl, and struggled somewhat with what brand and price range to stick with. I'm glad to have come across this little jewel! Our girl, though only one year old now, plays with it frequently, and likes to hear other people play it. When she's hiding somewhere or getting into mischief, I'll just hit a few keys and she'll come crawling out of wherever she was hiding to join me.

Keep in mind this is a *TOY* piano--don't expect a grand piano sound out of a toy. This utilizes small metal rods of varying lengths in the interior of the instrument to produce the sound, which is a clear, pleasant tinkling; much like a windchime. One note was a bit sour, but I solved this by removing the top cover (4 screws), and adjusting the appropriate metal rod. These slide back and forth with gentle pressure, so it is possible to tune the instrument perfectly. The legs of the piano and stool can loosen over time, but you can easily solve this with a couple drops of loc-tite solution.

There are more well-known name brands and better workmanship out there, but I'm glad not to have spent more than was necessary for a decent quality instrument.

Sound is not very good
My 2 year old son got this for Christmas last year and was initially very excited because he loves music. However the piano has a very tinny sound and doesn't even come close to a real piano sound. Also the stool and piano legs have to be tightened often and can come off quite easily. ... Read more

Great Choice!
We just purchased this for our one-year-old. She loves banging on the piano keys to hear the noise it makes. She doesn't know how to use the xylophone yet, but that makes the toy even better. As she gets older she will learn how to use it. This is a great choice. Even mommy and daddy will have fun playing with it. ... Read more

hate to be honest
but this is one toy I was TRUELY VERY dissapionted in. My 3 1/2 yr old had down syndrome and his hardest developmental area has been speach. When I saw the mic I though what a cool idea sence he LOVES the wiggles maybe this could be something that will help encorage him to talk more. When we got the thing home he wanted nothing to do with it, it played 2 times and then just quit working . . tryed new batteries with no luck sadly we returned it to the store the next day. And didn't bother to replace it with a new one, we opted for the gutar instead ( which he absolutaly LOVES )

great toy!
My son, 2, picked out the microphone at the store the other day. He hasn't stopped playing with it since. It is a very cool toy. He has the guitar and I like that most of the songs on the microphone are different than the guitar (2 are the same but those are 2 of his favorites). The microphone feature is pretty cool as well. My son has occasionally has to tell me it is his turn because I will end up singing to the songs as well.
The only bad thing about this toy is that the on off switch is a big button that is right where little hands are. I told my son that is the off button and only to press the people-he understands but for someone younger it may be difficult.

Golly, get out of the way, here comes the next superstar!
We got this toy for a birthday gift and when my child opened it, he stood up on the counter, raised one hand in the air, and started singing with it! What a ham! Now it goes to bed with him, goes in the car, you name it, the microphone is there. Our buttons get stuck too but it will resume so that more fun can ensue. Boy, get this thing for sure if you have a Wiggler - my child spends hours with this and the guitar. I think he's developing his own three-year-old band!

Toy Fan in Texas
I have two girls (3 and 1 1/2). This toy was a hit with both of them. The 1 year old just pushes buttons until she gets a song to play. She thinks that is part of the game and it doesn't bother her at all. She also likes to "sing" into the microphone and hear her own voice. My 3 year old does not have any problems getting the songs to play. Her favorites are "Wake Up Jeff" and "Crunchy Munchy" but she listens to all of them and sings her heart out into the microphone! I have not experienced the mysterious pauses that others have talked about. We have played with the toy non-stop for weeks and have had great luck with it. As I am not a huge Wiggles fan I thought it would be very irritating but I was suprised to find that even I enjoy singing the songs! It is a very entertaining toy and not so loud that it gets tiresome.

For The Love of Wiggles
This was a Christmas gift for my 3-year old, but my 18-month old took it for her own! She loves pushing the different buttons and dancing to the tunes. The only drawback is that she sometimes accidentally pushes the on/off button which is the big yellow Wiggles button on the handle (versus a switch that is harder to turn on/off). She plays with this as well as the Wiggles Guitar. ... Read more

Great drum for your little drummer boy....
We bought this drum for our (now) 3 1/2 year old son about a year ago. He LOVED it!!! He played it every day, but after awhile, the drum head got a lot of little dents in it and it eventually just caved in. But, a year's worth of fun and music is well worth (...)

Super cute, super fun!
We bought this for our 2 1/2 year old Thomas fan. It's really cute and rather reasonably priced. My son loves to bang on his drum, and dance around the living room. He plays it quite often and we've had it for about 6 months, so far we've had absolutely NO problems with the drum falling apart or getting dented up like some of the other reviews have mentioned. Bottom line: great toy for any music/Thomas fan.

Great drum
This is a great drum! It hangs comfortably around the neck of the child & comes with two drumsticks. It has a good tone for a toy drum, and so far it has held up well (6 months) having one small dent on the side. My son plays with it often. Buy the book, "hands, hands, finges thumb" to go with it and your child will be charmed. I will read the book aloud and my son will beat his drum to the rhythm of the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars almost a great toy
The look of this drum is wonderful, and it is a lot of fun. My son loved to put the strap around his neck and march in his parade. The drum looks like an heirloom toy, but ours will never become one. It completely fell apart (it was not abused) and we were unable to reassemble it. ... Read more
