The concept is the same as Colorforms--a bright background scene with moveable characters--but here the background is magnetized, and the character pieces are made from heavy vinyl. The set is boldly illustrated with various fairytale characters: a princess, a fairy godmother, a handsome prince, a king, a dragon, a dwarf, and, inexplicably, something that looks a lot like a Tasmanian devil. The scene is swathed in lots of cheerful pink. A fun toy, even if it doesn't quite jibe with the cover copy, which reads, "Ability to slide the pieces creates action, making the scene come alive." ~Great Bang For The Buck~
My 5 yo son received this from Santa last Christmas and absolutly loves it! It's really a great deal. He could have had a larger much more expensive dollhouse but chose this one because it's portable. He's had no problems whatsover w/the handles. It is made of some sort of plywood-type wood so has scratched easily...but it doesn't seem like it will fall apart any time soon and that's taking into consideration how rough my son is w/it. It comes w/a lot of furniture but we aren't happy w/the dolls as they are not made to be dressed and undressed and they are flexible rope w/kind of stumpy wooden limbs. My son became a bit frustrated when he attempted to take their clothes off only to find he actually ripped them off and he didn't like the ropey bodies. They are the same flexi-dolls I've seen at Waldorf sites. I highly recommend buying additional dolls whether the same, if that's what your child likes, or ones made differently. But this dollhouse as-is is really a great starter set and you can't beat the price. I highly recommend it.

Highly recommended!
We just bought this doll house for our 5 year old daughter and it was an instant hit. For those considering making the purchase, here are my thoughts about this toy.

I think this doll house looks quaint, and for my part I think that wooden doll houses are just much nicer than plastic ones (even though there are some really cute plastic ones around). I particularly like the fact that the garage door and front door can open and close--very realistic!

The couple that comes with it is very cute and they have moveable legs, so they can sit on the furniture, etc. The furniture does not look like "real life" furniture (may be a problem for some people) but I thought it was nice anyway and also it is really sturdy. My daughter has a younger brother and we don't have to worry about him breaking anything because the pieces that came with the house are solid and well-made.

Some people mentioned the problem with the glued on labels. Perhaps the manufacturer has been reading these reviews because the labels on the house we bought came off quite easily (my 3 year old son pulled them off with no problem).

What disappointed me about this house were three things. First, although the house folds shut, which makes it portable as advertised, the handles don't fasten together. If you are carrying it you have to be careful to keep both handles together or the house will slip open and the furniture will fall out. I think they should have included a simple clasp that would keep both halves together.

Second, you can't take the clothes off the dolls. My daughter wanted to put the figures in the bath, but felt that she had to undress them first. So that wasn't a plus.

Finally, although I love the figures and the furniture, I'd like to be able to add to what I have. If you buy a more traditional type house it isn't difficult to buy more furniture. With this set, though, it would be hard to find furniture that matched.

All told, my complaints are few. I am glad we bought the toy, it was well worth the money, and my daughter loves it!

I ordered this dollhouse to keep in my home for my grandchildren to play with in years to come. Right now I have a granddaugter who will be 3 and I think she will love it. I did, however, have to spend 30 minutes getting the glue off the house from the labels.

I believe this house will bring many hours of play for my granchildren.

Captivating and Classic!
This toy house is sure to become an heirloom in our family. Although it's listed for 3 year-olds, my 2 year-old daughter took to it immediately. I don't think she really understand the rooms particularly but it's fun for her to pretend with the "Momma" and "Daddy" dolls. This house could be very much fun to paint and decorate.
My only complaint is that the labels are glued to the roof eaves and very hard to remove....why wouldn't the manufacturers use that tacky glue that comes off so easily?

Ok I'm a little old for it, very cute, great for dog lovers!
Hello, my name is Katie,(god, it seems like everyone's name is Katie these days!) I'm a little old for doggie daycare I know, but I could'nt help myself, I don't know why, but I'm going to get the one with Honey and give the dvd to my cousin. I think that this playset will be good for dog lovers and maybe cat lovers too. I have a cute labrador puppy called Sunset, she's one of the most beautiful puppies I've ever seen, and I have a cat called Chilulu, his name is a long story! Now, the playset is very sweet, I play with it almost every day with my little sister she has the one with Ginger she has a reasonable age for stuff like this because she's 6 yrs old, she bugs me ALL the time! She loves Ginger so much she's named it Charlotte (which is her name you know!) freaky is'nt it?! The reason why I might give the dvd to my cousin is because she does'nt have doggie daycare whereas my sister does and she got the dvd in a lucky bag at a party. Now uh, the oven that you put the muffins/cupcakes/cookies in, well, the little door never stays shut! They should put magnets in the oven door and inside the oven so that the door actually stays shut and still be able to open easily by the tuch of Cookie's paw. She can pick up alot of things actually, like:
A sippy cup
a bottle
a bowl
a tray of something that looks like paw - prints
a plate
a baby
ther might be more but I can't remember! The playset comes with dress - up for Cookie and a little bib for the baby. It's useful that there's a fridge and a oven and a cupboard thingy so that way when you're done playing you can put the small pieces in. And also on the pics it looks like there's stickers, but there is'nt. There's card pieces that go onto a plate and a frying pan and those pieces are hidden inside the pack on the plastic so make sure that you look before you put it in the garbage because there's a chance of of getting some things lost. I recommend this toy for children over 4 years because if your child still likes sucking on things they could choke on these pieces - they're very small! THanks for reading!

I love this toy because I love dogs. I have all of them! Honey comes with dvd. Beau has the tub. Crockett has skates and wagon. Honey has playground and dvd. Ginger has changing station. Lula has makeover stuff. Lacey has sets for field trips. But be careful,It's for kids 3 and up. And there's small pieces and they have magnet in them. Collect them all! A surprisingly versatile taxi.
As with all Playmobil toys, the quality of this taxi is great. It can be used in conjunction with the airport, if you have that, or simply to give rides to people around town -- at least four or five people can fit inside, and I've spotted Lego and Brio people in there from time to time. Having a roomy trunk that opens is a great feature. My son has also discovered that he can remove the taxi sign from the roof and replace it with the lights from his Playmobil ambulance -- thus turning it into a police car! Like other Playmobil vehicles, it has rubber wheels that are quiet on hardwood floors. The only thing that is not so "durable" about it is the antenna, which constantly pops out (my father-in-law glued it in one day, and though I wouldn't normally approve of gluing Playmobil parts together, this seems to have solved this one very minor problem).

Let your imagination run wild
Playmobil products really are the best. You may pay a little bit more but it is well worth the money because their products last forever. My daughter enjoyed this Taxi Cab set and plays with it for hours with all the other playmobil items she has. The item is very durable and the people that come with it are very sturdy. Durable, Fun, Creative Toy!
My four-year old niece loves this toy! It consists of a castle background (that contains a handsome prince!), two magnetic dolls, and various charming outfits. I had to punch out the outfits from the backing for her, but after that she was off and running. Each outfit (hats, boots, dresses) is that of a type of princess, from a fairy princess to an American Indian princess to a snow princess. Several outfits look like they belong to characters young girls are familiar with: Snow White, Jasmine from Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland. These are wonderful for young girls because they are colorful, durable, and stimulate creative activities like story telling. They are heavy weight, and so resist tearing and can be washed.

Best of all, all the pieces are magnetic so they stay together without getting lost and can be applied either to the supplied background or to any metallic surface. A special set for a little girl
My 4 year old daughter loves everything we have bought in the Calico Critters sets. This is no exception. She adores the little furniture, with the great details and has spent alot of time playing with these. I do not recommend them for children that will lose small pieces- we pack it back into a box with a tight fitting lid after playing. All of the 3 & 4 year old girls in her playgroup are jealous of this set of toys.

Still worth buying, AFTER you get the other Critter sets!
This is a nice little set, though not too interesting by itself. Recommended only when purchased with critters & house. This set has been in Sylvanian Families (aka Calico Critters in usa), since the begining. The books are really cute, and removable from the book shelf. THere are also pictures & picture frames, chairs, couch, and a lamp. As mentioned before, you would want to have calico critter families & a house before picking this up as it has little play interest when bought as a stand alone.
