Assigned to the Farquhar Quarry Co., Ltd., Mavis is one of the hardest-working engines on the Thomas Wooden Railway System. Still, by her smile and bright eyes, we can tell that this six-wheeled, 3.25-inch-long worker bears her burdens cheerfully. Made of sturdy wood and plastic, black-and-white Mavis is part of a whole creative system of train-car characters, wooden tracks, and scenery based on the popular Thomas the Tank Engine book, television, and video series. She attaches to other cars via heavy-duty magnets. Like all Thomas Wooden Railway parts, Mavis carries a lifetime warranty. --Joan DeClaire ... Read more

Great fun, but shows wear early
My boys love Thomas and all his friends (and I like that Mavis is a lady engine but is really tough). Mavis gets played with often and in general she is, as most all of the Thomas line, durable. However, her black paint seems to chip off more easily along her edges than with the other engines - could be it just shows up more because of the color. I say it shows that she is loved when my sons ask why her paint is chipping, but you might warn your kids to be extra careful with Mavis. Otherwise, she's a lot of fun.

Mavis has changed since my day
I was just looking at my 8 year old Mavis and I relized it only has four wheels. The one in the picture has 6 wheels. Of course Salty in the picture has eight wheels and our Salty has six but that made me wonder. Because of Mavis's sideplates she doesn't run very well but my little sister loves her anyway. I wish they'd make the magnets like the take along Thomas magnets that u can connect both ways but I guess we can't have everything.

One of the few Female Engines
Mavis is a diesel engine that works in the Sodor quarry. She sometimes is too independent for her own good. Mavis has sleek black paint, a cowcatcher, and buffers around her wheels. Her smiling face will be sure to brighten up your child's playtime. Choose Mavis or any of the fun Thomas products. They're great!

Very Cool!
Kids just love this toy. They can play all day with it! Also this toy is very durable.

This toy is a must! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for little hands
My daughter has more fun with them because they are easier to hold vs. the blocks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta Have Them
My daughter (22months) loves her peek a blocks and when she seen these we needed them. She loves to roll the hamster around the house, and kisses him. Even my 2 month old son likes to look at these and tries to grab them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun little toys!
My daughter got the "Roll a rounds gumball machine" for a gift and I decided to get these to go with it.
They are very similar to the "Peek a blocks", clear shapes with little objects inside. But for us we like them better. They are easier to hold for chubby little hands and she really likes to roll them around the room. When they roll the objects inside move which is really fun. There is a cat, bunny, hamster, bird, dog and goldfish inside each one.
If your child likes the peek a blocks then I would definately reccomend these. Or if your child likes to roll things. ... Read more

This wonderful cloth book will have your child smiling all the way to bed!The soft purple book measures 8 inches and has a sturdy purple zipper around threesides, with soft stuffed handles on top. A picture of a bear tucked into bed and the words"Lullabyand Good Night" are embroidered on the front. Then your child can brush the bear's teeth with theconveniently attached stuffed toothbrush. Very sweet!
This cloth book is expensive, but worth it. I received one as a gift for my new baby and I really love it. It goes through the bedtime routine and there's a little bear figure that tucks into the pockets on the books pages. My baby is only 3 months old, so I haven't used the book yet, but I plan to make it part of our bedtime routine when he's old enough. I've already bought this for 2 of my friends.

a bed time favorite
My twins each receive this book for christmas. They do go page by page at naptime and bedtime. The manufacturer does include a card on how to contact them for replacements on missing items, such as the pajamas, milk, soap. A book they are sure to play with for a long time.

Great way to wind down at the end of the day!
I just purchased this book for my 17 month old. It is the first soft activity book that we have owned. It is a great way to do something together to settle down before bed. The hands-on activities hold her interest very well. I would warn to only use it with adult supervision, as we have already misplaced the milk. It is well made, very creative and similar to most bedtime routines. My little one just loves it! I will buy it for other toddlers in the future.

We got a LOT of use out of this book
All 3 of my kids have used this book lovingly. This, and all the other soft activity books like it have been a hit. Ours is an older version of this same book (we have no music). The jammies for the bear have gotten misplaced, but they LOVED taking him out of his overalls and putting on his jammies... Pricey book, but it has kept it's shape better than a lot of our other well used books (except for the missing jammies)

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice addition to bedtime ritual
My 1-1/2 year old daughter enjoys this book as part of her bedtime ritual. She has learned to squeeze the bear to hear the music play, can open & close the velcro attachments and enjoys twisting the momma bear so she looks like she is "kissing" the baby bear goodnite. She can put the bear in and out of his bed and overalls and likes to remove the soap and pretend to wash him. The only drawbacks I have found is that she uses the fabric toothbrush to actually brush her teeth and, since it is rather thickly padded, I don't know if it can be washed. Also, the pajamas for the little bear are difficult to put on and off, even for me! Still, at this price, I would recommend this book. ... Read more

Much more fun than the plain crossover bridge of the simplest Thomas sets, this lifting bridgehas solid "brick" pilings, green plastic "steel beam" bridge railings, and a simple winding mechanism(driven by a hidden string pulley) for raising the bridge deck.Since a section of rail line goes underneath, this can't be for allowing the passage of tall-masted yachts, but it would be ideal if, say, Percy weretowing a freight car containing an upended dog biscuit. It also has a control tower and two swinging stop sign barriers. --Richard Farr ... Hours of Fun
I was a bit taken back by the price, but the durability that goes along with these products is worth it. I gave this to my two year-old-son and he has been playing with it non-stop. The crank is easy to use, even for your toddler. Worthy investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars My child loves this but...
My four year old daughter particularly wanted this Thomas bridge because of its close resemblance to some of the bridges in the videos (unlike some of the new buildings). It is a particularly attractive addition to her set, but (and I regret to complain about a toy brand that has given my child so many hours of intensive play), after only a few uses the string that lifts the bridge is already giving way, causing the drawbridge to slip down after it's been raised. My child still plays with it, and always adds it to her latest set-ups, but the bridge stays down a lot nowadays out of frustration with this slipping.

Also, parents should note the bridge's lower course track connections are on both sides "female" - you may wish to buy an additional "male" track adapter pack if you (ie, your child) still can't resist this one, for ease of construction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply a great add on for a neat train layout
Durable, fun, and entertaining describe this neat little lifting bridge for the Thomas the Train (BRIO Compatiable) track layouts....I suggest this for kids 3 and up....under 3 may have trouble working the crank or understanding what to do....but they still have a blast running the trains over the bridge....this was the second bridge we added to our kid's set...and it has fast become a favorite.... ... This miniature water tower is a simple, clever toy that is fun for any age. Attached to a smallplatform and piece of track, it fits neatly into the Thomas the Train layout that your child has alreadydesigned. A lever action pump "empties" and "fills" the see-through tower, so your child will have a realsense of filling up the engine.

Based on the award-winning Shining Time Station television series, the Thomas the Tank Enginetrain system fulfills all of a child's train-set dreams. Each 2-inch-high, wooden vehicle has black plasticwheels and a different name, character, and face, and there are magnetic bumpers at the ends for easylink-up. Your child will delight in making the pieces interact during imaginary play and will learn socialskills playing train with friends. Designed to keep pace with your child's development, this toyencourages the use of new motor and cognitive skills. Other track pieces and accessories are available.--Sandy Hirsch ... Read more

good for all kids
my mom boght me and my brothergot this for christmas . HE didnt like this toy but i loved it!

Neat addition to your train set
We have a LOT of water towers in our city and my son is just fascinated with them. So, I bought this water tower after he refused to stop playing with it at The Anderson's General store. What a great purchase this is! I personally love watching the pretend water going up and down with the movement of the spout. "Water tower" as my little one calls it, goes everywhere with us. To church, to grandma's, grocery store, you name it, it's his favorite train piece. Why, I have no idea but I do know that he, along with every other child I've seen with it, absolutely adores this tower.

A nice addtion
We recently started adding new pieces to our son's Thomas set, and this is a nice one. The "water" level goes up/down in harmony with the movable spout. Also, this is one of the less expensive pieces (the others, like the fire station, cost as much as the entire Figure 8 starter set!). Add on more fun with this water tower.

Very Cool
I bought this after my two and a half year old son played with it in a store that had it on display. he loved playing with it and he pretends to be giving the trains a bath. I highly recommend it to add to any thomas set. The best part about these pieces is the lifetime warrenty, and they actually stand by it. I have already needed a couple of pieces replaced and they did it very quickly. The trains and accessories are very good quality and are very durable!

A Great Addition to Any Thomas Track
The water tower makes a fine addition to any Thomas set up. The "water level" in the tower raises and lowers each time the spigot is moved. My son recently received this for a birthday present, and he enjoys pretending to give his engines drinks of water from the tower. It is durable for hours of play. The water tower or any other Thomas building or accessory make fine additions to the tracks. ... Read more

Each vehicle has a different name, character, and face. It is wooden and 2 inches high with black plastic wheels. The magnetic bumpers at both ends of each vehicle make linkup easy. 5-0 out of 5 stars Good toy
This is a good train. I wish I got the Toby with Thomas's Trackside Tunes. This train is great. I hope you might like this train

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and long-lasting
When my son, a Thomas fan since age 1.5, asks for a toy it is always an engine from the Thomas series. Toby is one of his favorite. Toby is a tram engine, one of the most good natured engines in the Thomas stories. While the toy does not have any interactive and fancy features, it gives my son the opportunity to relive his favorite Thomas stories.

For that reason, Toby and any of the other engines make excellent gifts to any 2+ year old.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Tram Engine
Toby is a tram engine. There are a lot stories about him, like Toby sadly retired until one day Sir Tophem Hatt found that he is a very useful engine; Toby helped Mavis the little diesel out of trouble; Toby and Percy together made a kind joke at Thomas about the ghost train; etc. There is also a beautiful song about him. My three little children like him because he is very special. They often fight for the ownership. I wonder if I should buy two more of this. I do have five Thomas engines. But they still fight for the different facial expression. good toys! ... Read more

Better without the string.
My son received this toy for his first birthday and fell in love with the noises immediately. Unfortunately, even though he is of average height, the string was too short for him to pull it while walking and he ended up picking it up and dumping the blocks when he tried. One quick snip later and he's in love with pushing it around.
My only less than perfect rating was for Educational Value. At a year, most kids already have the two basic concepts of this toy: dropping things into a hole & move it to make noise. The Peek-a-Blocks add a lot of fun and we're glad to expand our collection.

Very fun toy
The poppity elephant an excellent toy. Since it wasn't in the first wave a peek-a-block toys, fisher price really seemed to put a lot of thought into it and make it great. My 13 month old loves it. The blocks can be incorporated many ways (which wasn't true of the giraffe and ark - there was really only one intended way to use the blocks), the toy rolls, plays songs, and pops the blocks around. Plus, it plays several songs (and also has an off switch) so that you won't get sick of a certain song. Highly recommended!!!

Newest Peek-A-Block addition is loads of fun !
My son just received this for his first birthday, he had it figured out in no time and just loves it. He's not quite walking yet, when he is I'm sure he'll enjoy it even more.
He has the entire line of Peek-A-Blocks, I must praise Fisher-Price for creating such imaginitive and durable toys.

Great New Peek-a-Block Addition
Just got this for my daughter's 1st birthday. The elephant comes with 4 peek-a-blocks, a monkey spinning on a bar, a spinning coin with a seal on it, a clown who's spilled beads out of a jug, and a tiger on a spring jumping through a hoop.

Good at teaching cause and effect since it responds with music when pulled along (which is also how the 'poppity' effect works, and pops the block on top a quarter turn each time), and when blocks are dropped down the elephants trunk (which also triggers an elephant trumpeting sound).

Has 2 volume settings (neither of which is obnoxiously loud) and several 'circus' songs, so you won't get tired of hearing one over and over again.

Did have a slight problem with the first one we got - the included batteries seemed to be dead when we got it, worked on replacement for a day and then quit again. TRU exchanged it without problem and the 2nd has worked fine.

If our daughter is any indication - this one is a winner! ... Read more

The Coolest Wagon
My 2-year-old cousin got this wagon for Christmas and I was amazed at how fun it was. It is great for outdoors, and can easily go over all different types of terrain. It is safe because it is hard to tip over, even when you go over bumps. The high walls make it hard for children to fall out. It can teach your child to share because everyone will want a turn in the wagon and your child will have to learn to give other kids a chance. Also, like most other Radio Flyer wagons, it seems very durable if you take care of it properly.

Easy to Refit
I had one of these sitting in the garage for years. The bed of the wagon (wood) had really rotted out badly, and the paint on the side panels had all but disappeared. As a sometime woodworker, I simply refitted the wagon with a better quality bed, and built new sideboards out of red cedar. And as far as the rough riding, I purchased 10 inch pneumatic tires (at a very reasonable price), and it rides much better. I guess you could say that the only thing left of the original wagon is the frame. I wouldn't pay what Radio Flyer is asking for the wagon, but I would be willing to purchase a frame only, and build my own. It looks nicer and will last much, much longer.

Not the perfect wagon, especially for the price.
I received this wagon second hand, and I'm glad I didn't spend the outrageous price charged for it. Yes, it's relatively durable (although ours literally fell apart under my 2 year old the other day. A nut holding the wagon together worked itself loose on our walk and the whole thing went to pieces. Replacing the nut fixed the problem), but it also tips easily. The handle is much too short. I've had to tie a piece of rope to the handle so that I can reach it without bending over. It is a really rough ride, and my son never looks very comfortable in it. All in all, I think I'll be passing it on and buying something else. Maybe I'm just picky, but I'd rather pay for quality, not the Radio Flyer name.

An excellent wagon!
My son has had this wagon since before he could walk. His grandparents have had many a wonderful walk, pulling him along in the wagon. He is now almost 8 years old, and still loves to play with it, using it to transport rocks, wood and (occasionally) mud. It still looks almost as new as the day we got it.

Radio Flyer is the Best!
I had one of these as a kid let me tell you it took alot of ruffness and it was the strongest wagon I have ever had. Now that I have kids they have one and its so cool how the sides come off so when even the kids get bigger you can have just the three sides on and have a bench. AS far as the paint coming off sure with wear but it is non-toxic. Plus any item paint wears off but you are not going to find a more durable sturdy wagon anywhere but Radio Flyer I am a loyal customer and will always be. We love this wagon! ... Read more

Really loud - don't bother!
When I was a little girl, I had this wind-up lamb that played Brahm's lullaby and moved it's neck. I loved it - and wanted something similar for my daughter. This is NOT it. The music is really "electronic" sounding, and when the neck moves, the whole thing makes this loud "rrrrrrrrr" noise. Plus, the music is WAY too loud for a lullaby. That being said, my daughter loves making this "go." Oh well, save your money and keep looking!

disappointing
I thought this was a cute item when I registered for it on my baby wish list. But it is loud and mechanical/distorted sounding - kind of scary for a little one.

really poor quality on the music!
so my daughter is really into musical toys - - and i've been trying to buy her as many as we can, since she loves them so much. i was really excited to get this product, and really disappointed when it arrived. the music is REALLY electronic sounding, and really loud also - - i'm not sure how she is supposed to go to sleep with it. the movement was neat, she liked that part, but overall, it didn't make a stellar impression or anything. i was really, really let down with how tinny the music was. we have other toys that have electronic music that don't sound NEARLY this bad!

It looked cutier on the web!
The batteries die to soon and the button on his paw does not always work. It plays alot of songs, but the lamb itself is not as cute as it appears. I hope it works in the future.

4-0 out of 5 stars Animated Lamb
Precious Lamb face. 12 lullabies are nice. Only one is a little mechanical sounding. The lamb's movements, in time with the music, fascinate the child. Lamb is cute as can be, only not soft to hold. The underside is rather hard due to the music box. I would recommend just a little more stuffing. Touching the hoove for "play" is a nice feature. ... Read more

A quiet meal!!
This is the best ten bucks I ever spent. My two year old doesn't yet know how to sit still or let the grown-ups talk durring dinner out. This toy lets us have a nice relaxing meal. We save it for dinners out or for when company comes. This way he can be at the table with all of us and neither me nor my DH have to take him away and miss the conversation. I will definitely buy a second one for my youngest when he is old enought.

Great entertainment for planes!
I bought this toy for my 20 month old when we had to take a plane across country by ourselves. He loved it - it kept him occupied for a good half hour...which at 20 months is quite a lot to ask! I recommend it to anyone who needs to amuse a little one in a seat for an extended period of time. And you don't need to wait until he is three.

GREAT TOY FOR RESTUARANTS
I just got this for my 3 year old Thomas fanatic son. We were going to a fancy restuarant for my dads birthday and I wanted him to behave. Well, this tiny little toy kept him busy the entire time. He absolutely loved it. My only complaint is that the little peices (the horses) kept falling off the table. Other than that, I cant wait for them to come out with more of these toys. Excellent idea. It fit in my purse perfectly, all the peices fit inside very well with no force necessary- he did all the work himself. For the price, excellent value. ... Read more

A great toy for long rides
we used this on a extended car trip. Each time we took it out the puppets would be involved in a new story. great fun. good durability and bright colours.

Great Mommy and Me time
I love this bc it is interactive and a toy but in a book form. I love that the big puppet fits mom's hand and the little one fits baby's finger

WELL MADE SO WORTH THE MONEY !!!
My 9 month old and I LOVE this book, and it is a wonderful toy to play with together. I look forward to when she starts talking and can maybe start voices the characters too! She also plays with it on her own. It is extremely well made and has stayed together admirably (especially considering all tugging and pulling a toy like this invites!) I agree with all the positive reviews!!! (Also loved the "peek-a-boo monkey" cube by Folkmanis . . .GREAT for peek-a-boo games if you're looking for more 'together time' toys!)

The Best of Books and Puppets All in ONE!
I purchased this book for my son when he was about 3 months old. At first he looked at it with little interest. At 6 months of age he suddenly discovered it. He now rolls around with it on the floor, loves the different textures and characters. He snuggles into the book as if it was a pillow. His favorite character is the Daisy because it has a rattle sound in it. I would highly recommend this book/puppet because it holds his attention now that he is 7 months old and he always finds in it something new and interesting to explore. It is very portable since it has handles and Velcro's shut. My only comment would be that it is best to be present when your child plays with the toy because the finger puppets are attached with thin strings and s/he could easily get a bit twisted into them. This book gets my vote!!! ... Read more

Skarloey #1 is a small, bright-red freight engine. He's a strong, humble worker. Based on the award-winning television series Shining Time Station by the Reverend W. Awdry, the Thomas the Tank train system fulfills the enduring choo-choo train fantasies of all children. Each vehicle has a different name, character, and face. It is wooden and 2 inches high with black plastic wheels. The magnetic bumpers at both ends of each engine make linkup easy. Children will become friends with each one, developing not only imaginative play but social skills and new motor and cognitive skills as they mature. --Sandy Hirsch ... Read more

Skarloey doesn't seem old in person
In the stories Skarloey is a older engine whose parts get worn and he has to go to the works. His friend Rhenas is also old but they are both very useful. Just becasue he's old in the stories doesn't mean he has to be old with the wooden railway. A great buy and he's very durable also.

A Bright Red Engine!
Skarloey is a small red tank engine. He and his friend Rheneas work on a small branch line. Skarloey has six wheels and a happy, smiling face. He's built strong for lots of fun play. Pick up Skarloey for your child. He'll make a fine addition to any Thomas set.

5-0 out of 5 stars skarloey
Skarloey is a wonderful engine. He is really old.he is almost 100 years. He is always very useful. His best friend who is Rheneas is about as old as Skarloey is. One day, before being mended, one of his springs snapped! The next thing his driver and fireman knew, he was crooked. He was sent away to be mended. When he got home from being mended, Rusty, who is a diesel, helped him off a truck. Then he went to the shed and Peter Sam who is an engine on his railway, talked to Skarloey about a new engine called Duncan. Duncan does rock and roll on the tracks. Skarloey asked Peter Sam questions like who is Duncan and is he useful. Peter Sam could answer every question Skarloey asked. I am afraid Peter Sam knew lots about Duncan although Duncan had been on the railway only for about a month. By Robert Spencer-Molloy ... Read more

Not as well made as the others
The caterpillar "wheels" on Terrance's regular wheels are removable which, any Mom will tell you, is a pain in the rear to continually have to keep putting back on. We finally ditched the caterpillar covers and just use Terrance as a regular train car. Unfortunately, he has no magnetic button on his front, so he always has to be the front "engine". This is more of a filler toy for your set should you decide you really want him. Thankfully, ours came as an extra with a LTD EDITION video. There are so many other great cars to purchase, I'd say skip this one and purchase another.

Terrence..got used to him
Well, I bought Terrence a long time ago. As soon as he was taken out of his box, his treads were off. After spending numerous hours looking for them, I decided to leave them off & put them in a safe place. That's the best thing that one can do. Besides, it's really no fun to have a Thomas train that you can't use with the others. So, take my advice, just take the treads off as soon as you take him out of the box. Good luck!

New Design
Well when we purchased this toy we had read the reviews here and expected the treads to come off all the time. Well, lo and behold our version of terence doesn't do this. They've redesigned him and the treads do not come off. He fits on the track but does not roll like the other trains. Pressure has to be applied and his wheels will turn but he can in no way roll down a hill on his own. You could cut the treads but the wheels don't appear to be the right size. Sometimes the treads get off their wheel grooves a bit and they seem like they may stretch out. Our son still loves "Terdence" but I would almost prefer having the old style so we could remove the treads and he would roll freely. Messes up the track too if it's not secure. The store had both versions I now know and may buy the other one. Difficult to make everyone happy I realize, Dad probably is more concerned about it than his son :)

The Tractors Don't Stay On!
My 3 year old wanted this toy, but like someone else noted, the "caterpillars" came off soon after taking Terence out of the package. Terence now goes on the rails but think that should have made the caterpillars a bit more durable. Had to toss them so my 14 month old doesn't put them in her mouth.

Treads come off all to easy!
I purchased this for my 3 year old son and no sooner than we had taken him out of the box and ran it on the table the treads came off. I am constantly looking for the treads, or fixing them. All the other Thomas toys we have are great, but Terrance doesn't seem as durable as the others, thus making this toy in my opinion a flop. ... Read more

What child who doesn't love Thomas the Tank's friendly face? The Thomas Medium set is a great introduction--or addition--to Thomas the Tank's world. The set comes complete with a train station, a traffic light, a little greenery and even a drawbridge. This "unique motorized road and rail system" is compatible with all other Thomas the Tank engine sets so you can easily add additional tracks or collect all of Thomas the Tank's friends. --Andrea Linsky ... Thomas Train a Really Useful and FUN Engine
This Thomas the Train set is a huge hit with the 3 kids in our house: my girls, ages 2 and 4, and my husband! The interlocking track is easy enough for my youngest daughter to attach (and detach, which she prefers to do). The trains run on the track, on the floor, and even the carpet (slowly). The drawbridge works like a charm. My oldest loves the lever to stop one train (usually to cause a wreck with another oncoming train). The set comes with Thomas and cars Annie and Clarabel. Toys R Us had a sale, so we also bought a Percy, Gordon, and James. It's a good thing we did! Christmas Day my husband had trouble releasing the catch to install the batteries in Thomas and Percy. The instructions (graphics only, no words) were no help at all. Fortunately the batteries in Gordon and James are easily installed into their coal cars. We took the Thomas and Percy back to the store for help. We like this set so much we plan to buy additional track.

Hundreds of Hours of Fun
My 7-year old son still continues to play with this set and all the other related Thomas sets we have. We started collecting these pieces when he was 3 years old. He's been able to put this track together in so many different ways with little or no help from the start. He has a huge toybox full of this train set now. After 4 years, 2 of our 3 bridges broke after being stepped on. We have glued one back together and now it works just fine. None of the bridges have their sides anymore, but the trains work just fine and stay on the tracks very well. Only one piece of track has ever broken, which says a lot for it's durability. You have to be a little careful with the trains with the tenders, i.e. attached second car, like Gordon, Henry, etc. (Not included in this set). The batteries are placed in the tender and 2 wires connect the train front to the tender. If these wires get pulled roughly, the train will no longer work. As I said though, we've had this set for over 4 years and only lost a handful of trains. My son no longer watches Thomas videos or cares to spend a "Day out with Thomas", but he continues to play with this train set and ask for the newest pieces for Christmas and birthdays. We don't mind buying them either. It's a worthwhile gift to buy as it is durable and gets a lot of use.

The Thomas World Medium Set
This was my son's very first Thomas set from Tomica--or any other manufacturer. It was a gift from his aunt at Christmas. After watching him play with this set, I knew we had to purchase more like it. My wife thought we should invest in the wooden series of Thomas toys. But I said, "No way". The toys from Tomica look more like the engines from the Thomas television series, they are every bit as durable as the wooden ones (if not more so), and they are cheaper in the long run. The wooden trains look like only a 2-4 year old would ever play with them. But, Tomica toys are mature enough to please children beyond those ages and still hold up to the abuse of little engineers. We have since added numerous engines, track, and accessories to the set--most of which are available thru this Toys-R-Us website. Even my other son started out his railway with this set. It's a fine toy for any young Thomas fan.

Great Toy Train!!
My boys (ages 3 and 5) have been playing with the wooden Thomas set since the oldest was 18 months old. We received this set as a gift, and they have loved it just as much/if not more! One major plus is that the wooden series of Thomas trains rides smoothly on the blue Tomica track in this set!
This set has been EXTREMELy durable and works just as well with batteries as it does without. We were afraid the wheels wouldn't turn if batteries weren't being used, but this is not the case. The track is easily assembled by small hands and Thomas stays on the track. Thomas also stays on the track very well! We are currently looking for the Gordon that is pictured as an accessory on the box for this set. We are having difficulty finding him, but we won't give up! GREAT TOY!

great gift idea
This set was purchased for my 2 year old son. He and his 3 1/2 year old brother both love Thomas. Both boys play equally well with the set, although the older one is already reconfiguring the track layout (guess I need the expansion set). The train runs equally well with or without the battery turned on and I like that it only requires one battery (batteries get expensive when you need an average of four per toy). The train and track seem to be holding up well, the boys are having lots of fun with it, and it is very pre-schooler friendly. It's a cute toy, great price, and a great gift idea for any train-loving boy or girl! ... Read more
