5-0 out of 5 stars A great game
I think this game is great. The graphics might not be the best, but it doesn't really matter because it's easy to play either way. The controls are simple to learn and to get use to. If you're a motorcross fan then this game should be perfect for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good game but not on my top 15.
Everyone is saying this game is [junk]. All of you are trying to group together. This game is good. Graphics are SOMETIMES 2-D. Gameplay is good, tons of modes. This game is good buy it and don't listin to everybody else.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great game!
this game was for my brother but one day i just decided to see how much fun it really is and it was so fun you get to desine a person and a bike and even a track if your track is good you can race on the track in the game aginst other people that game is so fun you should check it out!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ugly, uninspired gameplay, and terrible.
Do not make the mistake of buying this game. The graphics are terrible. They look bad, even if they were on a playstation. Then you get to the controls. Its very easy to learn, so easy you will have trouble losing. There is no challenge in this game. Overall, I can't say anything good about this. You could find a better bike racing game on every system that makes this look bad.

1-0 out of 5 stars One of the worst Dreamcast games ever made!
Inconsistent framrate, terrible graphics, bad controls, what more can one say about this game than it just downright [is bad]. A terrible game...stick with the good stuff people. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

It's a shame that the Dreamcast went the way of the dodo, because by theend of its reign it was the undisputed king of sports titles, as games likeNHL 2K2 prove. This sequel to Sega's NHL 2K improves on its flawedpredecessor in every way to emerge as arguably the best overall hockeysimulation on any platform.

The key word is simulation. There are no arcade trappings to be found here. Thepace is toned down to match the speed of the real sport, goals are infrequentand hard-won, and the offensive and defensive strategies come straight from thehockey textbooks. The graphics are excellent, and special note must be made ofthe phenomenal animation for everything from the players to the spinning puck(which flips end-over-end after particularly aggressive slap shots and careensrealistically off any object it encounters). Beginners will have an easy enoughtime warming up to the controls in the default mode, but much more depth isoffered by switching to the advanced control layout. Here, button combos makenearly any trick possible, from dekes and precise shot control to hooks and sidesteps. The more you put into the game, the more it rewards you, and the enhancedAI makes single-player games nearly as challenging as a multiplayer match.

Everything from an exhibition mode to a full-blown career mode is offered, andplenty of options exist for adjusting penalties, toggling rules, and setting theoverall speed of the game. There's no way to turn it into an over-the-top arcadeexperience like NHL Hitz, but as the focus here is strictly onsimulation, that's not really a problem. As it stands, NHL 2K2 is amongthe best sports games ever released, and we can think of no more fitting swansong for the Dreamcast. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Lifelike animations, realistic physics, and a focus on simulation bring the game of hockey right into your home
  • Incredibly tough AI offers a consistent challenge
  • Advanced control mode gives expert players more options than ever
Cons:
  • Graphics overall are not as sharp as those found on Xbox or GameCube
  • Sound--especially crowd noise--is lackluster

5-0 out of 5 stars The way video game hockey should be
Those looking for a lets go score 10 goals in the first period type hockey game won't find it here, this is the real deal. NHL 2K2 is the best Dreamcast hockey game (then again, the only other DC hockey game is the original NHL 2K), but it is also the best hockey game released in years, maybe since EA's NHL '94 for the Genesis. First thing you'll notice is the graphics. Everything flows so smoothly and looks and acts so realisticly you'll swear your watching an NHL game. Now we get down to the real element of the game: strategy. Like I said, this is no arcade style hockey. The designers at Visual Concepts (also responsible for the DC's fantastic NFL 2K series) went through every NHL playbook they could, giving unbelieveable realism that has never been seen before in a video game. You have to work hard to score goals because the goalies do everything they can to stop you from scoring, they are actually like brick walls. You can change up your strategies on the fly as well, and though it will take some getting used to, you will be rewarded in the end. All in all, NHL 2K2 is a fun, challenging game that takes some time getting used to, but in the end you have one of the best sports titles ever made, hockey or otherwise, and it's a fitting send off for the Dreamcast.

4-0 out of 5 stars Exceeds NHL 2K in almost every way
I'm biased--my favorite sport is hockey. So I love this game, just like I loved NHL 2K. What's so good about this game? The hockey is realistic, you can play with international teams (and beat Canada), the puck actually looks like it's on the stick (unlike 2K), additional shot, pass and coaching options, and the goalies are stingy (unless you're playing rookie). The bad--don't look to the announcers to add to the game.

In NHL 2K, even on 'all-star'-fast, you could skate circles around the opponent (Hey, I was the Sharks, they're not that great), do a one-timer and put the puck in. Again and again. If you try to skate circles around the opponent in 2K2, your back will be glued to the ice and you'll here something like "he must be wondering why he didn't hear the train coming." Trust me.

The only real disappointment was the announcing. Different announcers than 2K, but they must read the same script as before. Only in this version, they emphasize the hits. A LOT. Maybe that's just because I keep hitting hard--or getting hit :-(. There is depth to the game--more coaching options, more puck handling and defense options. And don't forget about creating your own players. Nothing like scoring a goal with your last name on the jersey. Just DON'T CHECK my man.

I would highly recommend this game if you love sports on the dreamcast and don't mind a challenge or getting bruised a little.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Hockey Game
This is a great hockey game. The graphics are realistic, and the gameplay is fun. There are a few things though. For one, when you use speed burst, usually you can get around all the people. The goalies also look a little weak (but this doesn't interfere with gameplay so dont worry about it). The only other thing is that you can't adjust period lengths. So games can get to drag on after a while, even though the timer does go fast. The announcers are a little slow, and they repeat a lot, but there are the occasional funny lines.Otherwise, this game is really great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flawed, but the best hockey game out there
This shows what a shame the unrealized potential of the dreamcast console was. It has very realistic physics and low scoring, making competition extremely intense. It's just a lot of fun, and it's easy to play. That said, it feels like they rushed it out. The announcers seem to deliver the same three lines over and over again, and faceoffs take place in the wrong zone after some penalties. Despite this, it beats the EA Games pretty handily.

Dreamcast's Swan Song!!!!!!
this game, NHL2K2, is simply fantastic! i can not tell you how important it is for you to get this final game for the Dreamcast. the most beautiful graphics...unbelievable player animations....puck physics that will blow your mind...amazing!!!
the gameplay is superb. you have the option to use basic controls, or advanced controls. the advanced controls are excellent...everything from deke moves to sidestepping to poke checking to flip passes to you name it!!! the gameplay is so fluid, so lifelike, it is scary. there is create-a-player....you can edit your team as far as who you want to be captain, assistant captain, jersey numbers...plus the Blue Jackets and Wild are on here too along all international teams! throw in camera pans of the bench with coaches and players...throw in the penalty box camera...throw in the towel!!!! this game is simply amazing!! the goalies are incredibly lifelike...butterfly move...stacking the pads...stick save...snaring glove saves. plus, great stat keeping, great play-by-play, easy to navigate menu screens. NHL 2K2 lights the lamp!! I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This game rocks!!!
Go buy this game now. It rocks. You can play as the legendary Mat "The Condor" Hoffman, Cory "Nasty" Nastazio,Mike "Rooftop" Escamilla, and a lot of other great BMX riders. There are 8 great levels to play. If you like the Tony Hawk games, you'll like this. You should also get Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2. It is even better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, but its ok
Pretty much Tony Hawk on a bike, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX is a good bit of fun, and it is a lot better than the only other BMX game for Dreamcast, Acclaim's Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX. My only complaints are that its just not as fun as the Tony Hawk games, and it can be quite frustrating at times as well. Also, there is not much difference between this version and the PS1 version. The graphics are a bit better and the loading times are almost non-existent, but so much more could and should have been added to this package to makes this game a must have. All in all though, if your looking for a good sports game, and this is one of the last third party Dreamcast games, then you can't go wrong with Mr. Hoffman.

5-0 out of 5 stars ''THIS GAME ROCKS''
This has to be the funest game ever. If you like to bike this is the game is for you.The riders look real and the bikes are amazing you have to buy this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars MUCHO BETTER THAN DAVE MIRRA
the graphics are great the music is better, you can play two player at the same time, the tricks are realistic and it is just a lot of fun to play, unless your a couch potatoe who doesn't bmx just sits around and crys if the game is to hard or if he has thumb sores from holding the controller all day, then this game isn't for u, get dave mirra, but if u actually ride get this not mirra.

5-0 out of 5 stars sweet
this is the best game ever. i thought it wouldn't [be good] compared to Dave Mirra but it rocks. it is the best game i ever playeed, one night i was up all night playing it for 24 hours no lie! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Where are all the glitches, like in NFL 2K???
WOW...what a game!!! It's far improved compared to last years game! What I love about it is the Franchise Mode, which allows you to coach and GM a team through multiple seasons. You have to deal with rookies, signing/releasing players and even retiring them! Sega finally got the idea from PSX's Madden games. The graphics on this game are still awesome. There are also more animations and player sounds. Everyone keeps talking about the improved running in this game, but I think it's too improved! I can easily go over 10 yards per carry, and that's no fun! The best new feature on the game is the Internet play!! It's great, I can now play with up to 8 people across the country, simultaniously! What's better then that is that you can update rosters and players stats, as the weeks go by, onto your VMU. Now that's amazing!!!! This game is one of the best Dreamcast cames that I've ever owned. What's surprising is that I haven't run into any glitches yet. Remember last year's NFL2K....oh what

a nightmare!! Supposedly, they fixed a lot of the glitches on this years edition. After buying a very, veRY, VERY DISAPPOINTING Sega sports game (you all know what game I'm talking about), I hesitated on buying NFL2K1. It turned out that they have made another superior sports game! When Madden 2001 comes out next month for PSX2, they have some competition in store for them!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Electronic Football Game Yet
I have been playing electronic football games since the days of those handhelds with the three rows of dashes to represent the players and the ball. I am not much interested in other electronic sports offerings, but electronic football I love. This is the best one I have ever played, hands down.

The graphics are suberb, online play against real people is a marvelous feature, one-on-one play with an opponent right in your own living room is seamless, and the challenge level is almost perfect.

When I say the game is challenging, I mean it. This game is hard! By the time I'd finished one season on Rookie level, I won the Super Bowl in a 42-0 blowout. Too easy, by far, but useful for learning the controls. I quickly left it behind and moved on to Pro level. This was pretty hard for a while, but after a couple of seasons, it also got to be too easy and I moved up to All-Pro level. Several seasons later, I usually win, but I am still having to play my best to do so. Sometimes I swear the computer is cheating, but, on the whole, I'd rather it remained difficult than have it get too easy and become boring. And difficult it is. Very much so.

The Franchise mode is also exceptional. I have rarely found myself drawn into such features before, but this game's franchise mode has me hooked. I'm just getting into my 2005 season and have spent countless hours tweaking my roster, juggling my needs so that I can strengthen a weak spot without creating another. Every draft season I have to carefully plan to fill in the gaps from retirements and to pick up the slack for aging players. During the course of a season, I have to trade and adjust. Fascinating stuff and it keeps on keeping me interested, long after most games would have started to bore me.

So, having said all those wonderful things, why only four stars? Because the game has some flaws that could have easily been prevented. Some are merely annoying, like the tendency for the announcers to keep mentioning it every change of possession when a player gets hurt on a possession changing play (even half a game after he's back in the game). Others amount to majour causes of stress and broken controllers, most especially the random way that your players will stop dead in their tracks when you take control of them, instead of continuing to do what they should be doing (if the game always did this, you could adapt to it, but it only does it sometimes, and it almost always results in a big play for your opponent). Very frustrating.

Another shortcoming is in the record-keeping area. Two actually. First, the game is sporadic about actually recording new records. Usually it's fine but sometimes it just seems to forget (I am still upset that my conference championship-winning 60 yard field goal is not listed in the Longest Field Goal record book). Second, there are only ten or so records kept and those only by name and the raw number of the record. Competition with my friends who play on my system for new records is a lot of the fun - and a wide variety of records the player can break, and information as to what player/team and at what skill level applied when they were set - have been standard features of competing products (i.e., Madden) for years, yet Sega dropped the ball (as it were).

The commentary, however, is a vast improvement over the competition. Sure, I've heard most of their pithy little sayings dozens of times, but every now and then I still hear a new one. And even the most frequently repeated ones usually have that "real-time feel" since they often menrtion the player by name and the actual circumstances on the field where appropriate. Sega's made the most of the Dreamcast's processing power here and produced a definite improvement over, say, Madden's irritatingly canned comments.

So, all in all, a great game, but one that could have benefited by a few more weeks of playtesting and debugging. Despite its flaws, I still play at least one game almost every day b/c I genuinely love this game. If you like electronic football, you owe it to yourself to give this game a try.

2K1 is very good, but is it better than Madden's series?
I like this game and have not played Madden much at all.
How to control defensive linemen:
off the snap:
press A and hold with heel of thumb
-press trigger L or R for club
-hold A and a trigger, then lightly tap B for spin
-hold A and a trigger, then tap Y for swim maneuver
-hold A and a trigger, then tap X for rip(I think)

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW...football on the Dreamcast peaked here
NFl 2K1 is the best NFL game around! It has great graphics, lots of replay value and great commentary that is not annoyingly repetative. The backround graphics could have been touched up but the games still ROCKS. If you own a Dreamcast (the best system that never made it) then get this

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than 2K2.
This is probably the most complete NFL game there is. Certainly the best one I've ever played. So it's 2002 and the rosters are out of date and the graphics are a little dated. That shouldn't bother you. The passing, running, and catching are all top notch in my opinion. If you get the hang of it on Rookie, bump up the difficulty to Pro. You'll have to be pretty good to do well on Pro. The A.I. doesn't learn your patterns very well, and you can usually win games by running the same plays over and over (I have about 8 plays I run all the time and I won the Super Bowl last season on Pro setting). I can't say how tough it is on All-Pro, but I will find out some day. If you don't mind if your football is a little old, you really should get this one. You can get it for real cheap usually. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The best nfl Game for Dreamcast?
Nfl blitz 2001 is an arcade football game...thats just what it is. But blitz 2k1 is a bit more than every other arcade game it has creation options, carrer, and a awsome multiplayer. It's fast gameplay is the best and it will last u for a long time... but if u don't like fast and furious arcade gameplay you might just want to look at nfl 2k1. The only flaw or major flaw I see in nfl blitz 2k1 is that is does NOT have internet multiplayer. And for people who bought blitz 2000, blitz 2001 has alot more to do and you will NOT get board of it quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars All the fun of previous Blitz titles plus a great deal more.
The 2001 version of NFL Blitz continues to add more of the much anticipated (by me at least) features that simulation football games like NFL2K already boast, as well as some of its own orginal features. In the original Blitz, you may remember, there were barely any special features at all, aside from the game's wonderful originality of course. Blitz 2000 improved upon the orignal, incorporating features such as custom plays and audibles. Blitz 2001 gives fans a big bowl full of special features and options in its newest edition. Gamers can now customize their own teams and players and examine gameday performance more closely with the vastly broadened range of statistics. Unfortunately the interface in which these features are presented to us on Dreamcast puts a little damper on this new experience. Most of the text in this game suffers from a sleepy blur that makes it a little less inviting to check out all of those detailed statistics. I would've also liked to see more options in the team and player creations: custom jerseys and logos for created teams and the ability to invent more character-oriented players for example. Then we have the brand spankin' new NFL Blitz "Party Games." The party game debut introduces three unique mini-games: 1st & Goal Frenzy, Goal Line Stand, and QB Challenge. These mini-games are very fun and will have you telling yourself, and your buddies, that you're "just going to play one more game." Blitz 2001 also makes a slight improvement on an already excellent gameplay believe it or not. Have you ever been lost in the heat of a pending QB sack and accidently thrown to an unintended receiver because you were holding the wrong direction on your control pad? Well worry no more: with a mere squeeze of that right trigger your receivers will all be given a designated icon and you can make sure you're passing to the right man. One last problem (if you'd call it that) to address is the good ol' cheating computer. If you're playing on easy you won't see much in the way of the computer forcing fumbles and interceptions to win, but when you start playing on hard... oh boy. Luckily, you can wait until you've been playing a while before you set the difficulty to hard. After some experience you'll learn how to avoid throwing a pick or fumbling usually by using certain audibles. Aside from the interface problems, Blitz 2001 packs alot of fun and alot of replay value. As usual, Blitz takes all of the action we love to see in football and puts it into overdrive every play. Definately worth checking out. Note: a nice way to put justice back into the game is by entering the "No Interceptions" code at the match-up screen.

1-0 out of 5 stars Football players with butter fingers = mass fustration
DO NOT buy NFL Blitz 2001 even if its on sale for a cent!

The game is the most fustrating game i've ever played. In what other game would your recievers fumble the ball when they are tackled mere inches from the End Zone (sometimes on a first down, sometimes when the game is on the line)? This happened to me at least 3 times in one game! Needless to say it resulted in 3 costly turnovers and I lost the game. The hardest part was the fact that the game was on the EASY level. I expect this kind of CHEAP play on the hardest setting but not on easy. The constant fumbling by players throughout the game is a SERIOUS TURN OFF especially for fans who just want to enjoy a good game. The random and FREQUENT fumbles made this game a worthless piece of junk.

The game is also flooded with too many loading screens that get really old really fast when you just want to get into the action. Very poorly designed, Midway. If you still have a bad taste in your mouth from NBA Hoopz then AVOID this game. The graphics are on the same level and the announcer is the same.

Do not waste your hard earned money on this poor game! Read the other reviews that warn of the fumbling problem and do not make the mistake I did!

PLAY OR RENT BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
if you think this game is quality then think again. this game has nothing more than the original blitz!you fumble the dang ball any time any one touches you! you get intercepted if you even pass the ball! the mini games are twice as bad as the actual game and the graphics are as bad as super nintendo! Don't even get me started about the game play. it is so horrible. You have to walk in the direction the reciever you want to pass to! How bogus is that!

DO NOT GET IT! SPEND THE MONEY ON SOMETHING
THAT'S WORTH THE AMOUNT YOU PAY!
(Which means not this game because this is worth $$$tops)

5-0 out of 5 stars Addictive, Strategic Experience
Recent reviews of this game have not given it the proper credit it deserves. You may first believe this game is dull, but it grows more and more complex as you play. The gameplay takes a few attempts to understand, but eventual mastery of the game takes hours, if not days. I love Tetris, and this game is a lot like Tetris in the fact that the biggest challenge is beating yourself. And with that, the higher you raise the bar, the more entertaining and challenging the game can be. And I believe the Amazon.com price for this is now .... How can you go wrong with that?

5-0 out of 5 stars A reason to own a Dreamcast
The game is excellent. Seemingly quite simple, it is chock full of subtlety as well as fun. The graphics are primo, especially in the higher levels, and the audio is superb as well. It is very difficult to pull myself away from this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Different, But The Novely Wears Off Quick...
With so much content being put into games these days, it's going to take more than a tetris-like game to give a game player true value. The game is different, and challenging. However, the novelty wears off after a little while and you're left with a so-so game that begins to gather dust.

1-0 out of 5 stars I would have to agree with the 1 star review
I too found this game to be very dull.

Being a huge fan of Tetris, I was pretty interested in picking up this title. With all the good reviews it received I figured it would be a sure hit. Actually, it isn't.

From the poor graphics (very Nintendo-ish), to the irritating robotic voice-over (sound effects do NOT show off Dreamcast abilities), I soon found myself bored with building walls to hold in water. The weak graphics and sound might not be too bad if the interface was better (it is a puzzle game after all), but placing your walls in the position you want as they descend from the top of the screen is near impossible. The controls really are that bad. Try moving one slot over and you will usually end up moving way too far or moving the wrong way. And trust me, it's not poor hand-eye coordination on my part.

My suggestion, you better rent this one before you buy or you may be kicking yourself for wasting your $$. I know I am.

If you don't like it after playing a few times, most likely you aren't going to, and then, of course, it'll be too late.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fun Factor?
I'd hardly call this game fun...trying is more like it. It looks like it was designed for the Nintendo (not the 64, just the Nintendo), the game play is dismal. It lacks the charm of Tetris or the challenge of Klax. This is just a bad game from design to execution. Maybe for 12 and younger, but if you can drive...you probably won't enjoy this game. I bought the game because of the reviews it recieved here and all I can say is...Warning! Stay away! ... Read more

Editorial Review

"No refs. No rules," boasts NFL Blitz 2000, making it clear that this game is nottrue-to-life football simulation. The game disregards strict realism in favor of outrageous moves,bone-crushing tackles, and jaw-dropping plays. And you'll need those big plays: a first down in NFL Blitz2000 is 30 yards, and there aren't any rules against pass interference.

The gridiron action is enhanced by the voices of the players. A safety who body-slams a wide receiver willstand over the writhing body and jeer, "You're in MY house, sucka!"A sacked quarterback may limpaway, wailing, "I think it's broken!"Even the game's announcers get in on it, gleefully pointing out thatyour star running back just got clobbered.

So NFL Blitz 2000 is the perfect game to play with your buddies. It's fast, fierce, and quickly getseveryone talking trash and slinging taunts. Up to four people can play at once, two on each team (eachplayer needs their own controller).

Fans of deep, realistic football strategy should check out NFL 2K. But fans of the kind of football foundin highlight reels will love NFL Blitz 2000.
Pros:

  • Terrific multiplayer game for up to four players
  • Brutal tackle animations
  • Trash-talking players, great commentary from announcers
  • Players can design custom plays and save them to a VMU
Cons:
  • Single-player game quickly gets old
  • Turbo mode and other unrealistic moves may turn off hard-core sports fans

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, if you're into that sort of thing.
This is abstract football at it's best. Imagine taking a third grade game of touch football and swapping out the players with inmates from the violent crimes ward at Joliet. Crushing hits and intense stylings make this game seem and play like something it isn't, but it's true to it's arcade counterpart. If you prefer a more realistic sports sim, go with NFL 2K, but if you like stylized arcade-isms, go BLITZ!

5-0 out of 5 stars remember those days playing street football?
well, if you do, then this is the game for you. no rules, no refs, just plain football, like you used to do at the park! you'll laugh your b**t off when you see a defender flying across the air to clothes-line the ball carrier, or maybe even kick him to the curb, and once the play is done, everyone else gets to pound on him as well! youll see it like it should be played, animal style! this is one of the best games out right now. i would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys just plain madness! this game is not for the weak, and its not for the politically correct! if youre (not) one of those...enjoy! blitz baby........blitz!

2-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but not for very long.
I can see how some folks would enjoy a pure arcade version with no reality whatsoever involved. Myself, I think I'd like something more realistic.

First downs are 30 yards, there are no penalties, there's no kickoff, and there is no realism involved as far as athletic ability of the players. For example, if you complete a pass from Young to Rice (remember, this is 2000!), and Rice has the open field, two defenders are actually able to catch up to Rice and tackle him. This is flat out ridiculous, even for an arcade game. Ditto Terrell Owens and Tim Brown, and I was able to stop other wideouts with linebackers just by squeezing the turbo button.

The emphasis is obviously on bone-crushing tackles, but after an hour of play, the only really enjoyable aspect of this is the ability to cheap-shot the offensive players long after the ball is whistled dead. The field-goal kicking system is particularly vexing, as it was apparently designed by a chimp with ADD, and requires eight espresso-mochacchinos in order to maintain the twitch focus required to accurately split the uprights.

Overall, I see this as a fun arcade game for younger kids not up to simulation-level gameplay, and guys/gals who just want to have fun beating each other's players up. Me, if I want to beat up some guy, I'll play Soul Calibur.

5-0 out of 5 stars blitz
I think that this is one of the best football games I have ever played. It is fast paced, and a lot of fun. I usually don't like football games, but this one is awesome.

4-0 out of 5 stars BLITZ IS ALL RIGHT BUT......
this game is pretty fun. The graphics are decent, the sound is also above average. This game is at its best when 4 human players play in a 4 player multiplayer game. Games are always high scoring when playing with your friends. This game is a great game if you always have people who will play with you. But when playing alone this game sucks. Sure smacking the computer is fun a while, but theres no one to smack talk. The novelty of hard hits wears off fast. Also the no pass inerference rule gets cheap. On easy mode, the computer gets whooped every time beacause they never pass interference, but on hard, the computer will use it on every play, making it frustrating, because it will be so freaking hard to cathc a pass. For the person with no friends this game may not be right for you. First of all this game has no season mode for 1 player. its just arcade mode. Secondly, there are no things to keep you busy like creat-a-player ( i believe there is create a play, but i would rather have more fun creating players ). so get this game if you have lots of friends or if there are always people to play with you. if you dont have friends or you are a only child, stick with NFL2k for all you solo gamers. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars NBA 2k. The Best of The Best and Better Then The Rest!
Wow. This game is the greatest basketball game to ever grace the Earth. Remember all those other basketball games with the shoddy graphics and horrible framerates? Well, forget 'em. This game has great graphics with amazing detail, from the holes in the characters uniforms to the tattoos on Jason Williams arms to the facial hair on Shaq's face. The characters also correspond to their real-life counter-parts. From Patrick Ewing's slow run to Jason Williams' famous fancey foot work. Oh, it also runs at a steady 60 fps. The game also plays grrreeaattt! Pulling off a perfect play, alley-oop, dunk, 3-pointer, whatever feels great! The game does have some flaws that keep it from being perfect. Some strange calls from thee ref really get annoying, and sometimes people on your team will catch the ball with one foot out of bounds. Why? There is also some strange missed passes, but thos are actually kind of realistic. The last flaw is that during a season game you can't check stats from other games, just the one your playing. Oh well, a great game non-the-less. Definetely on worth buying. It just never seems to get old. Peace.

5-0 out of 5 stars NBA 2K THE NEW KING OF THE COURT
FIRST ANYONE THAT HAS SEEN OR PLAYED NBA 2K KNOWS THAT THIS IS THE MOST REALISTIC LOOKING GAME OUT ON THE MARKET. THE GRAPHICS BLOW YOU AWAY, BUT THE GAME PLAY IS PRETTY GOOD TO0. THE MOVES THAT THE PLAYERS MAKE ARE SO REALISTIC IM CONSTANTLY WATCHING THE INSTANT REPLAY OVER AND OVER IN DIFFERENT VIEWS TO CATCH THE MOVE. HOWEVER, ANYBODY THAT PLAYS BASKETBALL VIDEO GAMES IN TOURNAMENTS WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS KNOWS THAT AFTER AWHILE ALL THAT GLAMMOR AND GLITZ FADES AWAY. THATS WHEN THE STRATEGY AND GAME PLAY COMES INTO FACTOR. I REALLY HAVENT GOT INTO THE ACTUAL PLAYS THAT THE TEAMS RUN YET, BUT THEY LOOK PRETTY SIMILAR TO THE ONE ON NBA LIVE. THE PLAYERS ACTUALLY RUN OFF THE PICKS THAT ARE SET AND EVERYTHING. THE DEFENSE LEAVES SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED. EVEN ON THE HARDEST LEVEL YOU CAN PUMP FAKE YOUR MAN AND DRIVE TO THE HOLE FOR A DUNK ABOUT 85% OF THE TIME. THE GAME ALSO ALLOWS YOU BLOCK SHOTS AT AN ENORMOUS RATE. ANOTHER DOWNFALL IS THE LONG PASSING. THEY NEED MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THAT ON THE NEXT VERSION. THE MOST OBVIOUS FLAW IN THE GAME AND THOSE PEOPLE WHO PLAY NBA LIVE WILL NOTICE IS THE LACK OF ILLEGAL DEFENSE. YOU CAN JUST CAMP OUT IN THE PAINT AND WAIT FOR THE REBOUND OR JUST RUN AROUND ANYWHERE ON THE COURT. THIS TAKES AWAY FROM THE REALNESS OF THE GAME. OVERALL, EVEN WITH ITS DOWNFALLS NBA 2K IS STILL THE KING OF THE COURT FOR NOW. THIS IS A MUST BUY FOR ALL BASKETBALL FANS AND VIDEO GAME JUNKIES. I JUST CANT WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT VERSION COMES OUT.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Basketball Game Ever
My tittle says it all. Hands down, no comp., aint nothin' else coming close to the classis, the very first NBA 2K. The BEST sports graphics I've ever seen. This is a true story, no lie. Alright, I was playing NBA 2K on Dreamcast and my father walked past the room and saw only the TV screen and said to me, "There're still playing NBA games? I thought the season was over". It's crazy how technology drastically change, and that game was out over 4 years ago and nothing since has been even able to come close (except ofcourse the other NBA 2K's).NBA Live is just getting up to par with Live 2004. NBA 2K has surpass all other basketball video games and reached a whole new plateau. Not only the graphics are the best but the game play was too real. The moves were so detail. I can't say enough about the game. My Dreamcast is inop. because I think I played it to much but I would buy a whole new system just to play this game. It's a shame the whole Dreamcast system went out of business. I think people were runnin' with playstation just off name alone. If you ask me, If they would have made all games for playstation and Dreamcast, Playstation would have been the one out of business. Anyway, Three words to describe NBA 2K. OFF THE CHAIN!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's good but it has bad graphics.
This is a good video game, but the problem is the graphics, man it's bad, and the superstar teams the San Rafael Sega Sports Team and the San Rafael Seganet are good but really racist, because they hardly have black guys on their teams, but I do like the San Rafael Mocap. My favorite players are Sadiki Fuller and Roy Byrd, and the name of their colleges are really funny: Dunk University Very Much, and University Read My Ankle, but is their such college as Light It Up University, and Redman is featured from Def Jam University, and Larry Peacock from Hard Knox College, and Charles Outlaw and Brian Grant. But when the players were made with giant heads, that was freaky, and I didn't like that over camera, but my favorite camera is swivel. I give it a ***** (5 out of 5).

5-0 out of 5 stars dreamcast has the best sports games
I think the now defunct Sega Dream Cast has some of the best sports games out there (NFL 2K, Virtua Tennis, etc), and NBA 2K is no exception. The graphics and game play are great. I think this is the best basketball game I've come across. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL FOOTBALL GAME EVER MADE.
Bad is a to nice of word for this game.

1-0 out of 5 stars This game sucks
This game should be banned, because its like you are just wasting your money. the game play is horrible, i hate the controls. madden 2001 is the best! just about everything about nfl quarterback club sucks, if you like this game than i suggest you check with your doctor

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Game EVER
This is beyond any shadow of a doubt the worst game that has ever been made. I would rather play Pong than this game. The controls are totally inaccurate, and the game is beyond slow. If you want to play a good football game, look elsewhere because this disk is best used as a frisbee.

1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy
This game is terrible! It is almost impossible to play defense on this game. Very difficult to tackle and impossible to cover the wide outs. If your going to buy a game buy NFL2K.

3-0 out of 5 stars Save your money ! get nfl 2k1!
Although this game has improved over last years version it still does not measure up to nfl 2k or even the playstations versions of madden and gameday 2001. Wide open receivers drop easy catches the computer defensive line often cheats and you can still gain big yards with any quaterback running the bootleg. I was playing the super bowl and had a big lead and all of a sudden late in the game the computer started controlling the action and i just managed to hang on to win( plays repeating that i didn't call- ext). Okay for a rental but, if you must have a game get one of the other titles that are coming out, and leave this one in the store. ... Read more

Sega's new NFL 2K is the type of game that makes a very, very good first impression. For starters, this is without a doubt the best-looking sport video game ever produced on any platform--hands down. Not only are the players more detailed and lifelike than in any other game we've seen, but they move fluidly and with such an impressive array of animations that it's sometimes hard to forget you're playing a game and not just watching one on TV. You can even see the breath of each player during cold-weather games--we're talking graphical realism here, make no mistake. But NFL 2K goes way beyond skin-deep. This is an excellent football game, with gameplay that's easy to pick up at novice level but hard to master as you increase the level of difficulty. The game's controls are the most intuitive of any we've seen, and the playcalling interface is simply the best that anyone has ever come up with for a football title. And just when you think it can't get any better, you discover features like the full-league fantasy draft, a tutorial mode, extensive game and season statistics, and excellent play and player creation options. Put simply, this game makes every other football game on every other platform look dated. Even the play-by-play and color commentary are better and more fluid than any we've seen elsewhere. If you have even a passing interest in football and are planning to pick up a Sega Dreamcast console, you owe it to yourself to get this game as well. It is the new standard by which all future football--and sports--games will be judged.--Michael Ryan ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Start With a Few Problems
This game has the best graphics of any sports game I've ever seen, and it's extremely fun to play against a friend one on one. When playing in cold weather, each player's breath can be seen, which is just one of the awesome things you'll see here. A drawback is that you can't play a franchise mode like on Madden 2000, and this is a must now for die-hard football gamers. NFL 2K is better than Madden 2000 despite having less features because it simply feels more real. In Madden 2000, use the instant replay on pass receptions to see just how comical it looks when a pass just drops into a receiver's body without his hands moving, or his eyes focused on the ball. It looks as though you will not find this type of blocky and sometimes unrealistic gameplay on the Dreamcast. On NFL 2K, instant replays reveal true one-handed catches, balls going right through a receiver's outstretched hands, and other types of situations that look real. The running game in NFL 2K could use a little improvement, but overall this game is just pure fun and reality for anyone who enjoys playing football video games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Up there with Madden Football but with MUCH better graphics.
NFL 2K is without a doubt, the most spectacular looking sports game to hit the console market. The fluid moves, closeups and replays, original commentary, solid gameplay mechanics, - all of these make NFL 2K a serious contender to the ever popular Madden series.

The controls and play execution are solid and menu option selections are easy to access. Running the ball successfully can be frustrating at times, especially at first. Patience and technique will result in solid yardage gains over time with practice. Passing and kicking are very accurate and equally realistic. A variety of catches can be made ranging from over the shoulder, shoe string, and diving grabs which can all be utilized to bring the pigskin in for big yards.

The biggest drawback is the play calling. If you play in 2 player mode, your opponent will be able to see the plays you call. The only way to avoid this is to use the VMU and have the plays appear on it's screen. Just make sure you memorize the plays because only the play name appears and not the patterns your players run.

I have encountered some glitches with my NFL 2K that some may want to take note to. This has also happend to a friend of mine as well. Players 2, 3, and 4 may not be able to select options on the menu such as calling a timeout which can be VERY frustrating. Sega has responded to this via sega.com by suggesting that player 2, 3, and 4 use the analog controller and not the d-pad. Because this has not happend again since I found Sega's "solution", I can't confirm or deny that this is guaranteed to work all the time.

Another glitch that I encountered was during season mode; my starting quarterback began the season with 23 interceptions (make note that not one of these were actually thrown). I have e-mailed Sega regarding this glitch and have yet to receive a response.

All in all though, NFL 2K is a great game that is truly amazing to watch and very fun to play. It's nice to play a great football game where I don't have to hear Madden's constant jabbering after every play (don't get me wrong, EA Sports' Madden series is still my favorite). NFL 2K is a must buy for sports fanatics who own a Dreamcast system.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good looks, awful gameplay
Don't pay a penny for this, folks. Move on to an EA game. There is very little in the way of actual physics calculations between players in this game, every interaction is merely a scripted animation. RBs are stopped in full stride by shoestring tackles. WRs run their routes at half speed while the DBs shadow them *IN FRONT* of their routes. Offensive line programming is horrible. Guards and tackles blow assignments on EVERY play, doubling up on a DT and allowing LBs to come free and tackle the RB at the handoff. There is no player momentum, a flaw I've noticed in a number of Sega Sports games, meaning any player can stop in mid-stride and immediately run full stride in the opposite direction. Sit back and watch the computer play: 3and out, 3 and out, 3 and out... This was an incomplete game that should not have been released. So what if it looks pretty? It plays like crap.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost great.
The 2K1 version of this game is much better, if for only one reason: you can actually gain yards rushing. Just try to have a 1,000 yard season with any premier back in this (2K) version. Other than that, great graphics, good game speed, and all the bells and whistles any sports game geek can handle!

5-0 out of 5 stars for the Sega DreamCast
I thought with Playstations Madden 99 I had the only football game I'd need for years. But when my brother got the Game Cube, Playstation 2, and XBox, he gave me his Dreamcast, and a few games along with it, NFL 2K being one of them. Turns out, this is a great game. The graphics are good and game play is as good as anything on Playstation. You can force trades to create your dream team, and while you can't play a franchise, you can save your season. The passing game is a little easy, bu it makes up by making a tougher running game. And lik most of Dream Cast's sports games, it is well done and fun. Would I pick this over Madden 99? probably not, but it is a nice addition, and the two games are fun to own together. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars division title screen when u clinch. endzone music.
I am an avid sport game player since the very first tecmo bowl me and all my friends are very football orientated i have played every football game created i think, i currently own cbc2000 n64 with expansion pack (only way to go).and it is a very good game but i was heart broken when i should of clinched my division and it did not show a division champ sequence, and also before every game mr patrick says the same thing before every game even when i was 14 and 0 playing a 2 and 12 team he said i think were in for a real good game . a good refrence is the 2000 on playstation graphics dont compare but there setup is awesome if your team is stompin and you are playing a team that isnt so good it says that the one team should have an easy win or another thing and the replays on n64 are awesome but alas i compare it to the play station version it says stuff like "this running back has taken charge look at the way he blasts through the hole and gets the yards for the first down" graphics wise and stat wise it is awesome but can get boreing with the lack of cool stuff that is what football is the whole tempo of it all HIGH ENERGY and endzone rock music !

1-0 out of 5 stars BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD
Indeed, this game looks like it was put together by a bunch of first graders. Every function of the game-gameplay, sound, graphics-are laughable. Anyone in their right mind would take this godforsaken joke of a game back within hours after their purchase. Thus garbage makes some old 8-bit NES game look magnificent by comparison; this will make you wonder if Acclaim Sports is just trying to get some laughs out of it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all costs
This game has nice graphics and sound. Unfortunately, the gameplay is so horrible, I cannot believe this game was play-tested before its release.

The controls are more complicated than necessary. For example, three separate buttons must be pressed to complete a pass, one to fade back, another to select a receiver, and finally another to catch the ball. You have very little time to do this even at the easiest level. Even if you keep backs in to block, you rarely have more than 2 seconds to complete a pass. Even bad rushing teams can sack the QB 10 times per game playing 5 minute quarters. This is not realistic, which is consistent with the rest of the game.

Passing is also blind, since your perspective is from behind the QB, you rarely see the receivers and have no idea what the coverage is. Your completion success has little to do with these factors, which are critical in the real game. It's easy to complete passes once you get the knack of pushing the right buttons quickly, but there is little sense of accomplishment when your success or throwing has nothing to do with throwing to the open receiver or exploiting a weakness in the defense.

In fact, the type of defense called seems to have no effect on the outcome of a given offensive play. You can stack the line against the run, completely plug the hole, and the computer running back will stay on his feet for 10 seconds, then break into the secondary for a long TD. This can happen with mediocre backs and excellent defenses. Conversely, the computer will routinely complete long passes into triple coverage and score long touchdown passes against a prevent defense.

Despite the difficult and non-responsive controls, once you get the hang of passing, you'll throw one TD pass after another. Interceptions are few and far between. Ridiculously high scores are common even when playing 5 minute quarters.

I tried to play a season with my favorite team, and gave up after two games because the gameplay was so unrealistic and irritating.

Another annoying feature is if you want to switch players, you can only do so for one play at a time. Playing the Rams, I wanted to use Kurt Warner instead of Terry Green. The game allows you to switch them by formation, so if you haven't decided on a formation, it won't work if you happen to choose a different formation. After the play is completed, the game reverts to the default player setting. Extremely annoying.

I gave it 1 star because that was the lowest rating possible. It deserves 0 stars. Sega's NFL2K is far far better.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible, THE WORST DREAMCAST GAME YET
See Jack Buy-See Jack Play-See Jack cry Ok first i gave it a one because there was nothing lower. This game tried to challenge NFL 2K and didn't even get as good as Super Nes Football. Before this game i never thought a football game could stink so much. Linemen running as fast as Deion Sanders. I rented it and returned it 5 minutes later. FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR JOY DON'T BUY THIS GAME OR ACCEPT IT AS A GIFT!

3-0 out of 5 stars QB Club Needs WORK

I think this is the best basketball game I've come across. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The first golf title for the Dreamcast, Tee Off is in the vein ofarcade-style golf games like the Hot Shots Golf series on thePlayStation. Players control big-headed, Japanese animation-style characters onvibrantly-colored 3-D courses. Shots are viewed from multiple cameraangles--including some mesmerizing aerial views--with the ball leaving a fading trailbehind it.

While Tee Off does require some basic golf knowledge, it uses astandardized control scheme which even those who've never played video golf willbe able to pick up on right away. In addition to customizable difficulty levels,Tee Off offers various modes of play, including gate ball (think croquetin cyberspace) and world tour, which rewards players' high scores by "unlocking"new characters and equipment.

Admittedly, Tee Off isn't for devotees of more simulation-oriented golftitles, as they'll probably pass it off as kiddie fare. However, casual videogolfers and those new to the armchair sport are in for one heck of a good timeon the links. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Highly addictive arcade-style gameplay
  • Great replay value
  • Gate ball (cybercroquet) mode
Cons:
  • Japanese to English language translation is weak at times
  • May not appeal to fans of more simulation-oriented golf titles

4-0 out of 5 stars I just can't stop playing it!
OK, by now I see that most of the faults have been addressed on this game. The characters are too-cute, have big heads and say non-sensical things. "Hee-hee, that's funny"? The world appears as some sort of futuristic Japanese computer/nature nightmare. The golf isn't realistic either. There are no stats to track, no real courses and the music is terrible. So, why can't i pull this game from my Dreamcast? Because underneath all it's faults, it's a nice golf game. And right now, it's the only game in town so I play it. The futuristic croquet game is also a nice touch and is fun to play. If you like golf, by this game. It's simple and basic and fun. You may curse the silly opening sequence and complain about the Japanamerican voice overs but in the end, you will continue to play this game and like it or not...you WILL like it!

2-0 out of 5 stars How About a Golf Game for Serious Golfers?
This game is not without charm. It has its pluses and minuses:

On the plus side:

1) It is the only golf game available for the dreamcast right now.

2) It is fun with two or more people

3) Even non golfers can play and understand it.

4) Did I mention it is the only golf game available for the Dreamcast presently?

One the minus side:

1) You cannot hook, slice or perform any specialty shot. You can only hit the ball straight, so if you are right behind a tree you cannot get to the green.

2) This is a Japanese game "Americanized" by changing the text of the game and the language that the players speak from Japanese into English. Players will say goofy stuff that doesn't make sense. Example: One golfer will say something like "Well, at least it was close" when he holes a par putt. What the heck does that mean? Close to what? Not going in? Why would someone be happy that a putt was close to not going in?

3) You cannot turn off the speech in the game, you can only move the speech volume scale in options to the lowest setting.

4) Those big heads and Pokemany figures! Look, a game that has cutesy pie graphics can get away with it if the game has amazing detail, great playability or excellent statistics. There is none of that in this game. There is nothing special or compelling about this game that makes up for its inelegance.

5) Nonexistent statistics. Don't expect greens in regulation, number of putts, scoring average.. or anything like that in this game.

6) The game is too easy to hit a perfect shot from the fairway (all you have to do is get the shot off in a very wide section of the swing arc)and too hard to hit from the rough (often you will only be able to advance the ball 100 yards from the rough). The gameplay is silly.

7) Did I mention the big heads?

Bottom line: I would call this a cutesy-pie Japanese style game that probably isn't going to satisfy a hardcore golfer. If you are a serious golfer and want a game that has real world detail and playability, this is not it.

I cannot play this game in one player mode and enjoy it at all, it is a bit too simple and cute for my tastes. It is fun, however, playing this game with friends.

This game did not have any of the following items that I feel a good golf game should have:

I want a golf game that has realistic golfers taking realistic swings on realistic golf courses. I want detailed statistics, tournament play, leading money winner stats, knockdown shots, hook and slice shots and for goodness sake, either applause or cheering when a good shot takes place, PLEASE do not have the golfer say stuff that a Japanese programmer thinks an American player would say. The culture difference can be creepy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad.
If they had real characters, I would actually rate this a 5. The courses are extremely lifelike. There should have been some unlockable courses and some easier to lock players. I hate missing the red bar on the bottom, cause once you miss it, you lose a whole stroke. But playing it is all right. Though it's not the best golf game in the world, it deserves a look at.

3-0 out of 5 stars It could be a bit more realistic!!
.... The 4 characters say the same phrases over and over and I never felt like using up my memory card to save the world tour and unlock other characters. It's not like I was gonna win, anyway. I must admit, though, the 5 courses are pretty good. Japan is easy. U.S.A. gets me in the bunker alot. Scotland has alot of precipitation variations. M y ball always goes into the red clay in Australia. And Africa has a large variety of fairways and obstacles. Gate ball isn't that great because the gates are always in the same exact spots. Other than the graphics and the 5 courses, this game could use some improvement.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for the serious golf fan
Tee Off is a fun game but diehard fans may find it disapointing. The game is based around fun and is easy to play and to get into. There are various different modes of play which improve the longitivity of the game, so you and your friends can battle it out to see who is the best. There is also an option to unlock new characters and new equipment though getting high scores. ...

You can get it for real cheap usually. ... Editorial Review

Even if you're not fond of sports titles in general, the simplepick-up-and-play feel and speedy on-court action in VirtuaTennis make it a worthy addition to any game library. Sega did anexcellent job making sure even those unfamiliar with the rules andstrategy of tennis will be able to jump right into the game. With alittle practice you can pop lobs, perform an overhead smash, or evenreturn the ball with a through-the-legs trick shot.

Starting the game presents three game modes. Arcade mode is a directtranslation of the coin-operated arcade game in which you must defeatfive challengers in order to win a championship. Exhibition mode allowsyou to choose a player and then challenge any of the other availabletennis players in singles or doubles matches. World Circuit mode caststhe player as a tennis superstar, touring the world and competing forheaps of cash and worldwide rank.

If you're looking to play as one of the top tennis aces in the world, you're going to be disappointed. No Sampras, Agassi, or any othertennis giants are to be found. Rather, you're stuck with 16 smallernames including Jim Courier, Carlos Moyà, and YevgenyKafelnikov. Despite the recent boom in popularity, the women's tenniscircuit is unfortunately completely absent.

Sega's presentation and graphics are very well done and could almost bemistaken for a real televised match. Details such as the crowds, linejudges, and instant replays look stunning. It's a shame that VirtuaTennis doesn't feature the famous venues and tournaments of realtennis, but the game's imitation stadiums in England, New York, andFrance look close enough to be recognizable. The player graphics arefantastic. Each player displays plenty of detail in everything fromfacial expressions to sneaker logos. Both the TV-style overhead viewand the behind-the-shoulder viewpoints feature animation that's almostalways ultrasmooth and is guaranteed to keep your eyes glued to thescreen. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • Amazing graphics
  • Easy to play yet hard to master
Cons:
  • You can play as real tennis players, but not as tennis superstars
  • Strictly arcade--not particularly deep gameplay

5-0 out of 5 stars A Smash Hit
Sega serves up another great title, this time Virtua Tennis. After visiting a friend's house and playing this game, I had to go buy it for myself. This is by far the best tennis game ever, and one of the best sports game ever. This is one of my top 10 games of all time. The graphics are beautiful and detailed, the sounds sound like you are there in the arena, and the gameplay is awesome. Even novice gamers can pick right up on this game. There are only two buttons to learn, forehand/backhand and lob. Serving is easy to pick up on, but takes a while to master the powerful serve shot. The players range greatly in attributes. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of players to choose from (I think 12 in all). The arenas are detailed but are there are also few of those too (I think 5). But gameplay has really been thought out. Multiplayer of course, and four single player modes. The single players range from a single match practice mode, a five game tournament mode, a career mode (called World Tour) and a bonus game type mode. All in all, despite the few players and arenas, this game is awesome and a must have for Dreamcast owners.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fun for a while but where are the options?
When I first got this game I was seriously addicted and couldn't get enough of it. But now its just another game sitting in my collection. As you might have heard the graphics in this game are top knotch just like any other DC game. The gameplay is also very easy for beginners to pick up since there's only 2 buttons you use in the game. Yet the game severely lacks the options that are required for this type of game. The #1 flaw is that you can only play a match of 1 set. For a proffessional tennis game this is just plain ridiculous. What happened to the best of 3 or 5? Secondly, there's no option to play a full grand slam tournament. The World Circuit Mode is ok, but I would like the chance to play the full Wimbledon or French Open rather than just single matches. Also for the controls they really could have added a spin shot in addition the lob and stroke buttons. As for the players in the game (18 of them), I really think Sega could have gone the extra mile and included Sampras, Agassi, Rafter, Hingis, Williams sisters, and Kournikova. The 8 players we get are mostly people who nobody's ever heard about (except for "Has-Been" Courier). The other 10 are imaginiary characters. In my books Super Tennis for SNES is still the best game for this sport.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Tennis Game Ever Created for Sega Dreamcast!
This is one of the best tennis games ever created for the Sega Dreamcast.

Graphics: 10/10- Game takes FULL advantage of Sega Dreamcast's Graphics

Gameplay: 10/10- It feels like you really are playing tennis.

Difficulty: VARIES- You can choose the difficulty level that suits you best by going to the options menu.

Overall- 10/10 - If you own a Dreamcast, this is a must-have.

1-0 out of 5 stars doesn't work with Windows XP
I ordered this game, but cannot make any comments about it because I haven't played it yet. Why? Because the damn thing doesn't function with Windows XP!I have tried everything, am an experienced computer user, have played other PC tennis games, but for some reason, it is not compatible with XP. If someone out there can give me some information on how to use this game with XP, I wish you would e-mail me at jrryns@syd.eastlink.ca...on the box it says that it IS compatible with XP, but I'll believe it when I see it ..... I would like to use it with Microsoft Sidewinder plug n play, but I can't even get out of the starting gate. If you are using this game with Windows, please send me as much detailed description of how to get it going as you can.....Jerlaw

5-0 out of 5 stars intoxicating mix of speed, action and eye candy
Virtua Tennis is a pixel-perfect translation of the arcade hit. In addition, the game features a number extras designed for the port over to Dreamcast. The result is a very fun gaming experience.

Like Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis sports a number of extras in addition to the arcade port. Included in the Dreamcast version are: arcade mode, exhibition mode, and world circuit mode. World Circuit Mode is most challenging as you travel the world taking part in trial matches earning money and buying items such as equipment or doubles' partners. Your techniques are also sharpened in various training stages such as the pin crasher, where the bowling pins must be knocked down with serves.

Virtua Tennis is an intoxicating mix of speed, action and eye candy. Even if Sega had done a simple port of the arcade game, Virtua Tennis would have warranted a purchase. However, they have thrown in the extra modes to warrant a MUST buy. ... Read more

One hundred years from now, a historian may categorize snowboarding's greatest achievementas its expansion of the English vocabulary. For its part, snowboarding has brought new meanings to thewords "indy," "mute," "method," and "melancholy." For those not attuned to the sport's phat lingo, theseare all terms for snowboarding maneuvers that generally refer to grabbing a particular part of the boardwhile airborne. Not a word of this terminology is overlooked in the first snowboarding game for theDreamcast. Also included are appropriately stylized characters, each with two outfits to choose from, andlicensed gear from real snowboarding companies Bonfire and Salomon.

Armed with a glossary in the form of a user manual, players will soon be able to talk the talk. But in thisgame, walking the walk, or rather pulling the tricks, requires quite a bit of controller dexterity. Luckily thegame is not based solely on snowboarding tricks, but also has a healthy dose of racing at its core. Whatmakes this game stand out is the length and detail of each downhill course. Jumping off the roof of sheepfarms, avoiding falling icicles, and catching the spotlight of a hovering helicopter are all in a day's play inRippin' Riders--and that's just the first track!

A unique two-player mode challenges players to shrink the opponent's split screen by outscoring him orher. Track graphics are up to snuff, but the players look a bit chunky. --Jeff Young

Pros:

  • Outstanding course design with plenty of details and multiple checkpoints
  • Groovy outfits and snowboards for each character
Cons:
  • Many of the tricks are difficult to execute
  • You never see other racers on the course, except in multiplayer mode

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun for a while
Now that the Dreamcast has gone on permanent vacation, one of the things it will be remembered most for is it's awesome sports library. Rippin' Riders is not one of those games however, but it's clearly not a bad game either. UEP Systems, the developers behind the Cool Boarders series, seem to have been on a time budget to put this game together. Graphics are super smooth and look great, while the sound effects have very nice touches here and there, but control is a major issue. Not to mention now and then you'll run into a wall that came out of nowhere and it costs you valuable time to figure out what direction to go in when you get back up. Plus, after you unlock everything between hidden tracks to hidden characters and boards, there is really nothing else exciting to do in the game. All in all, Rippin' Riders isn't really a bad game, but the last time I checked it is the only pure snowboarding game for the Dreamcast, and that alone makes it worth checking out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not just another "boredin" game
If you like boading games like CoolBoarders or 1080 you'll like Rippin Riders. The graphics put any other boardin game to shame. The tracks are sick with awesome backrounds. The characters are off the hook. I love DJ Ken, he's fat, got two turntables and sports a hawaiian shirt. One guy has a MIB suit and a football uniform complete with helmet. The tricks are extreme, one level I can pull a 2540. Triple backflips and helicopter spins are common. Every character also has signature moves. Every character is so different in style that it's almost a new game with each one. You have to master the style of every rider. When the game is first played many options will be locked so you have to beat all the levels to unlock the various tracks, boards, costumes and players.

The game has awesome replays. The graphics on two player mode suffer quite a bit, but game play makes up for it. Play head to head and every trick you hit takes part of your opponents screen until until your opponent can no longer see where he's going. It's pretty fun.

The game is very (near extremely) difficult to master. To achieve first place rankings on the tracks you will have to have the track completely memorized and hit perfect tricks off every hit. To pull tricks is also tough to master, and landing - forget about it. I play this game every night and have unlocked maybe half off the games features. It is the first true gamers boardin game. You can't pick this game up and master it in a night or two, but when you get the hang of it there are no limits to what you can do.

1-0 out of 5 stars BOREING!!!!!!!!!!!
Boreing game, good graphics but cheesey cources, characters are civilians with weird clothes on, can beat the game in 5 minutes, super easy, I bought for [X]and would no let me return, DON'T WASTE YOUR $MONEY$ BUY SOMETHING ELSE!!! BE SMART!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for people who love snowboarding
When I first rented the game I loved it almost as Sonic Adventure, a very good game, the only problem with it is you can't grind. Besides that, this is one of the best snow boarding games you can get. If you like pulling a Misty 900 Method in a Super Half Pipe than this is the game you will want for your dreamcast.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool new game!
This game has cool graphics and funky tricks. In some of the courses, they need more lighting. You can hardly see where you're going. When that happens, you run into walls and get stuck and not even a jump can get you going again. It's an okay game. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful graphics, boring game
Style over substance. Lots of pretty eye-candy, very dull gameplay. I was really looking forward to this game but what a disappointment it is. You fly around (cockpit view) blasting enemy ships with some very cool weapons, but within 10 minutes you'll want to play something else.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's not a videogame, just a graphics demo.
This has the distinction of being the one and only game out of dozens I've bought this year to be traded the very next day after I bought it.

Very simply, this is a fairly impressive-looking PC-based graphics demo in which you simply fly around, auto-targeting and killing enemy ships with minimal skill. That's it. There is a badly read mission background before starting, which uses the in-game graphics to show the ships you'll momentarily defeat.

The graphics are in general nice as stated, but even this gloss disappears quickly. For instance, it becomes quickly evident that the background which dominates your view appears to be a 256-color bitmap, with easily discernible banding.

This game represents everything that can go wrong with emphasizing graphics over gameplay.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good graphics hard game
i liked the graphics of this game but the game itself is harder than life. i found the controls to be quite disturbing and hard to manuver in. it get's really annoying when you almost beat the level and die and have to restart the whole thing over again. i couldn't even beat the 2nd level!!! the game does have it's good points. it is fun w/ gameshark and the graphics are beyond this world, but the difficulty and controls are bad.

4-0 out of 5 stars Based on fun and graphics alone, it is a 6 out of 5.
Unfortunately, there are other attributes to a good title. The bad news is that like many other titles out for the Dreamcast, this game is not very deep(only 14 missions), gets repetitive faster than you think(kill fighter, take power up, use shield, etc.), and has one of the worst stories of any game I know that attempts a story. On the other hand, I have played several PS2 games and about all of the games out for the dreamcast and somehow this game has the best graphics out of any of them. The explosions are beautiful, as well as the multicolored space planets and such. It is quite fun to use all of the different weapons to blow up ships, and sometimes it is a challenge. Serious Dreamcast gamers should pick this game up and put it on hard mode. Normal gamers should pick it up for the fun to be had. Casual gamers should pick it up for the graphics.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Graphics...Average Gameplay
This is your typical spaceship shooter game. When playing this game you'll find some stunning images of the universe but the gameplay is only average at best. This game really suffers from long loading times and at times you'll have trouble finding what you're supposed to be shooting at. However, shooting down small enemy ships is quite easy and after a while it becomes a litte redundant. The game's plot is alright but I think the makers of the game could've worked a little harder at making the "feel" of the game more appealing. I recommend this game only to those who are really into space shooter games like Wing Commander and X-wing. Because this is basically the same game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this computer game
I Have this computer game of 102 Dalmations Puppies to the rescue, and I've won all the levels, and beat Cruella De Vil and saved all the puppies. It was so much fun playing all the levels,,, I would always save the level each time I won ,them. This game is truely the best ive ever owned. Please buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids as young as 4....or as old as 40!
102 Dalmations is a good game. My 3 1/2 year old daughter ("I'm almost 4 Dad", she says) picked up the game in about an hour and was able to complete the 1st level in about 3 days, and this is her 1st Sega game. I mention this -- not to tout my daughter's gaming skills -- but to provide advice to other parents with children of similiar ages ( I think the product literature recommends it for kids of ages 6 and up).

Now that I'm mentioning ages, my wife (age 38) also loves the game, and she's downstairs playing the game now that the kids are asleep. So there is some substance here for older players as well.

The game's theme is to rescue dalmation puppies from Crella DeVille. You move the puppy with either the joystick or rocker-switch over about a dozen scenes rescuing trapped puppies. You can switch between 2 puppies, but there is no real difference between the puppies. The puppy can also dig, jump, bark, and sniff, which help it complete it's task.

As you finish levels, additional "mini-games" become available -- mini-golf, etc -- and stickers become available for printing.

The levels come in groups of 4 it seems. On one of the levels in each group the puppy has an opponent that must be avoided. And every 4 levels there is a special "Cruella" game.

So the game is simple and appealing enough for kids from 4 to 40....thus the 5 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice game, but fairly easy to beat
My 6 and 8 year old daughters liked this game. Unfortunately, they also beat the entire main game in about 10-15 hours of playing time. Graphics are good and play level is good for younger kids. They enjoy the mini-games as well.

Probably a good buy if your kids are into Disney.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very fun game!
Santa brought this game for my son. I wasn't too sure about getting it for him since there weren't any reviews out on it. My son is 5.5 yrs old and pretty good at video games, he often beats me at the various sports games and I'm no slouch. 102 Dalmations is challenging enough that he hasn't made it through the game too quickly, but it has enough tips and hints through out the game to keep the game moving and make the game enjoyable for younger kids. It's an adventure type game, along the lines of Sonic Adventure (a big fave around here). The graphics are nice, the characters cute. My son is pretty picky about video games and this one has kept him busy during winter vacation. Teen friends thought it was a cool game too and I like it's mini golf game. Enjoyable even if you haven't seen the movie yet. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars ESPN DISAPPOINTMENT BASKETBALL.
THIS WILL BE SHORT THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS GAME WAS ESPN ANNOUNCER STEWART SCOTT.THAT ALL.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Man, I luv this game, this and QB Club are my favorite.

1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING READ THIS REVIEW!
This is a horrible basketball game, the graphics aren't something to be proud of nor something to puke at, but this is just horrible. Almost every aspect of it I hate. The person who said this was FANTASTIC! has obviously never played any other basketball games or knows alot about video games. This is one of the slowest basketball games I have ever played, and he said it was fast! Is that person serious or anyone else who agrees with his review! Shooting in this game is out of control as in, when you are shooting the ball the player isn't facing the basket, then a few second into the air his body turns and releases the ball, it seems as if your having a seizure in the air and snap out of it when your releasing the ball. It is extremely easy to get the ball stolen and the crossovers are weak. You have to be very careful when passing the ball because if the defender is anywhere near it he will steal it. This overall is the worst basketball game I have ever played in my entire life. If you want a good basketball game get NBA2K1 or NBA2K2, they are much much better, and if you are going to buy this game don't expect anything from it, nothing at all!

2-0 out of 5 stars Hate It
This Game Is So Awful. I Have Never Played A Game That Awful It's The Worst Dreamcast Game There Is. I Advise You Don't Get It.

1-0 out of 5 stars THE WORST GAME EVER!!!
The game is so bad that it is kind of embarassing it is a Dreamcast game!! The game is so badly finished it makes u laugh! The game has very little realism and is not fun to play. ... I brought the game originally because it was a lot cheaper that NBA 2K1, i thought because i love basketball sooo much that almost every b-ball game would answer my desire for a basketball game. BUT I WAS COMPLETELY WRONG!!! ... NBA 2K1. Konami needs to do a better job next time, or they shouldn't even make the game! ... Read more

Editorial Review

As the first boat racing game on the Dreamcast, Hydro Thunder takes full advantage of the advanced processing power of this 128-bit machine. You'll steer one of 13 different boats through 14 fast and furious racing environments. As with the arcade version, you'll race against the clock and numerous other boats in a quest to reach the finish line first. The spectacular graphics and detailed race environments make this a most atypical racing game. In fact, there are times when you might find it difficult to concentrate on the racing because there is so much peripheral eye candy. We were most impressed by the New York Disaster, Far East, and Arctic Circle racing areas.

Many of the best elements of Hydro Thunder are likely to be completely bypassed by casual gamers, since there are numerous hidden tracks, boats, and other elements to be uncovered in this game. However, persistent racers will be well-rewarded, since some of the best tracks can only be unlocked after winning several races. --Brett Atwood

Pros:

  • Detailed race environments
  • Numerous hidden game elements
Cons:
  • Difficulty level will challenge beginning gamers

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my Favorite arcade/Dreamcast games!
I love this game. The graphics, the sound effects, the hidden boats, the secret passages, and (best of all) saving a bunch of money by playing at home. The reason for a "4" rating is due to the difficulty of the game. The hard levels can get very frustrating. I also hate time limits that barely give enough time. Mastering the boost jumps is a MUST to beat this game. More racing tracks would have been nice, but this game is meant to bring the arcade experince home. This game is fun and fast. If you've got a Rumble Pack, you can control the force of the "rumbles" that happen when you hit boats or splash in the water. There isn't too much "slow down" in single or two player mode either. This is arcade racing excitement at its best!

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't take 3 stars as a bad rating, really!
First I will discuss the good points about the game: Great graphics, great sound, cool looking boats and tracks, and the controls are easy to learn and use.

Bad things: A lot of slowdown(espeshily in two player mode), only 13 tracks and boats,a lot of times your boat will intersect(or go through solid objects,) no different from the arcade except two player.(no added simulation or anything else to do besides just race, and it's too easy(if you didn't hear me correctly, TOO EASY)the only level I actually found hard was Venice Canals. When I beat that, I beat the game!(I've only been playing the game for 5 days.)

Now that you've read my review, you can probably tell that there were more bad than good things about the game. But when I first got this game and played it, if I wrote a review then I would have given it 4 stars.

I think this game is good for a rent, but I'd pass on buying it, unless you really like the game.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful
I cannot believe how terrible this game is. With it's increidibly long load times and impossible difficulty, this game is something that will just collect dust on your shelf. I guess the graphics are a bit superior to other games, as well as the fact that there is plenty of eye candy make for a good visual feast, but everything else is awful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game!
I don't know much about gaming, but this is a great game. Graphics, sounds, controls. The courses start out easy, and then gradually get harder. However, I think I like the "Bonus Tracks" better than the Hard ones. The hard ones are hard! It's great for adults and kids. My 6 year old son has a great time and can, sometimes, beat me.
Either way, it's fun for both of us!

4-0 out of 5 stars The best water racing game since Wave Race 64!
This game gets my vote as the best non-SEGA arcade racing game to ever make a home conversion. What do you have? A PERFECT recreation of an awesome arcade game, complete with Soul Calibur quality graphics, sweet controls, crystal clear sound, and awesome arcade gameplay. Of course the best thing about this game is that you won't have to insert any quarters time and again in order to unlock all the awesome hidden vehicles and tracks. It DOES get hard later on, but isn't that what an arcade game is supposed to do?

Perhaps the only real problem with this game is that the interface needed a little more work. If this game let you restart a track from the pause menu instead of backing all the way out to the main menu, it would have been perfect. As it is, it's an awesome, awesome arcade conversion that arcade racing fans should definitely not miss. ... Read more
