5-0 out of 5 stars A amazing game!
I had never played a great football game until early January 2002. I thought I did, but I didn't. Nope, Madden 2002 beats all of them by quite a bit.

Graphics: 10/10

Okay, so I admit it, these graphics are the best. They beat plenty of other Gamecube games.

Controls: 10/10

Here, I can find problems with Madden 2002 for many systems.

XBOX: White button? Why not the left trigger.
PS2: The controller is pretty bad at this.
PS: Same as PS2
N64: Not too many here but, it's not as good as the Cubes.
GAMECUBE: NO PROBLEMS!

Speed: 8/10

The only Gamecube game I have played with loading times. (They are short.) Oh well.

Sound: 9/10

The music is awesome, but those announcers (esspecially the lady) can get annoying.

Gameplay 10/10

This is what it comes down to. Is it fun? Yes. It has tons of amazing modes plus great football you won't find in Blitz or QB Club. Get it... NOW!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Football GAme For Gamecube !!!!!!!!!
This Game is awesome. Fun game with awesome gameplay. You can Pick hundreds of plays throw long-balls run the distance with realistic plays Unlike BLITZ 2002. Franchise mode is amazing...You can make Custom teams with their own cool LOGO And stadium and uniform .. In Franchise mode you can play great football games with your very own team . You control every thing From Trades to Resigning players for up to 7 seasons. In franchise mode there is a actual offseason where you can sign free agents and draft rookies........... 2 minute drill is very fun for winning Madden CArds (you use madden cards like cheat cards For example there is a 5th down card) The game has great Graphics and good annoncers like JOHN MADDEN and PAT SUMMERAL. For 1st time users you can use.. easy play ..which is a great beginners way to play football games................I recommend this game for football fans who like pretty realistic football...

Best sports game ever? Maybe.
This was the very first game I got for GCN (I got it before I got GCN!), and I was impressed instantly. This one very smooth and high quality game! It has all the modes you could ask for, such as Situation, Practice, Franchise, Create-A-Player, and Two Minute drill just to name a few.

The graphics are amazing, and some of the best on GCN. There are over 100 faces for the players, so rarely will you see the same face twice. And the players faces aren't just paintings, their mouths move as if talking, eyes move, they blink, and everything. The game is so detailed that it throws on grass stains and helmet marks when a player gets slammed to the ground or takes a hard hit. The framerate is also very good, it only lags rarely when you down on your own 1 or something like that.

The controls are easy to pick up, too, of course. Each player has his own button for you to throw with him, and it is easy to scramble as a QB and juke people out as a RB/HB. Catching is automatic, so no worries about that. Madden 2002 has near flawless controls.

Of course, there is always one downfall of the game, and it is the difficulty. The game gets very easy up to All-Pro, and when you advance up to All-Madden, the game is just too hard (opposing players are extremely hard to tackle and break 70 yard runs every other play).

With all the factors and everything combined this game gets a...

A- (9.2/10)

(yes my scale is kinda odd)

3-0 out of 5 stars Another great Madden game.
I bought this game the day it came out for my brand new Gamecube system. It instantly became my favorite game for the system, and I could find absolutely nothing wrong with it.
A year later, I buy Madden 2003, and now I realise that this game is not as good as it seemed. The computer is not very smart at all, Screen plays don't work with anything, and the controls feel pretty awkward. If you can get past that, it is a completely solid game that can steal hours from your life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Absolute Control!!!!!
Absolute control is the fact is why I'm in love with Madden 2002. I know by now, everbody's into Madden 2003, and I honestly admit that I'm behind the power curve. When I finally get to play 2003 I only hope that it allows me to do the same things plus some that 2002 does.

The reason why I didn't start playing 2002 off the bat was I kept losing! Once I got the hang of it, I couldn't put the controller down. I love the Create a Team feature which allows me to move teams to different cities. What I would like to see in the future is when naming teams, I should be able to have the state as the city not just the city. Example: If I wanted to name a team the Alabama Rattlers, I should be able to put Alabama down as the name of the team and have the team play in Birmingham,AL like the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals.

Next, the ability to create players after each season and also edit the players in the draft by changing their name, school and looks. The option of drafting players from NCAA Football 2002 is absolute genius! I wish NBA Live would take a page out of Madden's book. The option of changing teams Head Coach and creating your own coach is absolute genius as well. I just wish that I could delete that DAL Coach for good because every time I fire him, He pops up with another team. I'm sure that 2003 will have Dave Campo as the Cowboys Coach.

The Super Bowl aspect is impressive as well. I assumed that after the 2001 season all the other Super Bowls would be at something generic like EA Sports Stadium. Somehow, EA Sports found out what cities would host the Super Bowl each year. I would like the see a better championship presentation. Just having the coach wave his hand is not a Super Bowl celebration. NBA Live 2003 improved their's tremendously, I assume that Madden 2003 will do the same. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You are invited to Pooh's party!
It's a lot of fun.
the main part of the game is like a giant
board game and your character moves on it.
When you land on a space (no matter wich one) you get to
play a mini game.
That makes it fun, and confusing, Because the last set
is in a cave and there are obsticles that you must
get through. And in order to get through them you have to
come in first place in the mini games (if you can) so you can earn moves. like... first place 6 moves... 4th place 1 move.
You must hurry through the cave before it caves in!

1-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating
Difficult to manuever, slow moving. We bought it last Christmas and our 5 year old never requests to play this one. The description and cover were so cute, we were really disappointed with the product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tiggeriffic!
This game is great. You first choose the character that you wish to play, such as Pooh, Roo, Tigger, etc. You are traveling on a giant game board, and you play cute games like "Pooh's Pinball", or "Tigger's Thunder and Frightening" to advance.
1st place- 6 spaces
2nd place- 4 spaces
3rd place- 2 spaces
4th place- 1 space
You play against the other characters, even the Woozles! There are three levels of difficulty, so I believe that gamers of any age will enjoy this game. There are cute videos before each level,(by the way, there are 3 levels)and when you complete the game you can watch them like a movie. This game has the familiar, cuddly Pooh cast, and is one game that stands out from the rest. Unlike so many games on the market today, this game has no violence or gore. If you enjoy this game, you may also want to try "Tigger's Honey Hunt", another one of my favorites. I strongly reccomend that you give this game a try. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars No Frazier or Foreman? Well At Least Ya' Got Butterbean.
I was so looking forward to playing this game and chanting "Down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier..". Oh well no sign of such boxing greats as Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Frazier, or George Foreman to name a few (yet we get Virgil Hill and Butterbean go figure).
The game has an ultra-quick learning curve and you can jump in both fists swinging from the opening bell. Now if I can only figure out how to beat my 8 year old daughter Sydney!

3-0 out of 5 stars Split Decision
It's kind of choppy, and the characters aren't very real looking, but I can deal with it. (I didn't pay full price for it.)

2-0 out of 5 stars Horrible AI and slow gameplay make this a huge bust
This game rates as the worst I've played. The controls respond pathetically slow, so forget blocking, and the dodges that you do are so pathetic looking it is funny. The AI does nothing but block, block, block, and once an eon throws a punch. However, the game is pretty exciting in 2 player mode. Get yourself Ready 2 Rumble, or if you are a hardcore boxing fan hungry for something with real guys, take a gamble on KK 2000, I heard they corrected their screw ups.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the better boxing games
This is definately one of the better boxing games i have played. What makes it fun is that you can create your own boxer and take him to the top, or you can fight with all the greats, like Ali. So I recommend this game highly.

4-0 out of 5 stars This game is realesitc, with real boxers in it.
This is a great boxim game. If thats what you are looking for, then get this game. I have alot of fun with this. You can choose from real boxers to contend, or you can make your own boxer and fight him against the greats. Go for it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sequels are never as good as the original
NASCAR 2000 is still a great game, especially if you are a big fan of racing like myself. But, I must admit that NASCAR 99 was better. The graphics on 2000 come up a little short of its predecessor, but the new fantasy tracks and being able to drive as Richard Petty almost make up for it. This game is as fun racing by yourself as it is in head to head mode and is highly addictive!

4-0 out of 5 stars EA Sports hits their highest gear
So far, the number 2000 has been a magic one for EA Sports. Every edition of their games that brandishes that number has been exceptional, and NASCAR 2000 continues that trend. EA has always been so diligent about licensing all of their sports games that it's easy to overlook that this game has everything a NASCAR fan could want--real tracks, drivers, cars, and a serviceable amount of information about each one. If there isn't something you like, simply create your own driver and car, and feel free to adjust its settings (downforce, oversteer, car balance and such) to your liking. The customizing of cars and other game options is excellent. Previous EA NASCAR games have always been heavy on features, but stumbled when it came to the aesthetics. Not so here. The graphics, while not outstanding (like Gran Turismo 2 or R4), are very well detaild in terms of making the cars look identical to their counterparts and doing the tracks justice. Also, the game's steady frame-rate doesn't sputter during the split-screen two-player mode. Suffice to say, if you're a NASCAR fan, it's hard to imagine that you won't like this realistic racing game. PROS: Smooth framerate, Fully licensed, Lots of customizing/ CONS: Mediocre sound effects and music, Nothing very flashy

4-0 out of 5 stars A good ride
This game is a very smooth ride. I loved it. I couldn't put it down once it came in the mail. Still, I was somewhat disappointed with how easy it was to win the championship. All it seems to take is a course with enough nintey degree turns. You can always make those turns faster than the rest of the cars for some reason, no matter who you play with. So, the game is fun and runs smoothly, but pretty much anyone with a steady hand will defeat the first try.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am 12 yrs old and I enjoy this game.Me and my dad play with it at night. He likes it because you can set it up to do black flags and yellow flags and turn the damage on.If you just like racing you can turn all that stuff off.My only complaint is that you can't turn on black and yellow flags on 2 player.BUY THIS GAME!

4-0 out of 5 stars I mean its fun, but you need more cars for each race
Both the first game and this one are pretty fun, but you need more than 16 cars to be a real race. Also, when are they going to make a NASCAR game that has some real crashes. I know its just a game but I think that some more smoke and visual damage to cars would be cool. I mean you can bump cars all the time in this game and nothing ever happens. It was still fun, but it could be better ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars 2002 falls short
My brother and I have probably logged more head-to-head games than anyone playing EA hockey simulations. We enjoyed the first two versions for the Sega and now have been playing NHL 99 for Playstation since it debued. We were ready to upgrade and went out and purchased an X-box specifically to play this game. We tried it for about an hour and decided that it wasn't worth the investment. (Sold everything at a loss on E-bay) The graphics were certainly much better than the 99 version and the gameplay was pretty good (not [money] better); but the one aspect we just couldn't get by was the horrible color commentary. I have read many reviews that said it was hilarious but we found that it just distracts from the realism of the game. Though the comments in 99 get a bit repetitive (in fact the rink announcer commentary is identical in 2002), at least they are similar to what you could actually hear watching a real game. 2002 turns the game into a joke. It's like having Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football; you don't need annoying analogies everytime someone goes up and down the ice. 99 kept the color comments spaced out much better and more in line with reality.
As for the ability to control every aspect of the game, I find that also takes away from the realism. If I have the option of having an unbeatable goalie why wouldn't I take it? 99 was a great game in that each team was based on the real-life abilities of that team. If you want to win with a weaker team, you have to be a better player, not merely tweak and tune the options menu.
To be fare I'm sure there are aspects of the game that we couldn't pssibly have found in an hours time, but a great game should WOW you right from the get go and make you want to explore more, this game made it seem like a chore to find aspects to like. We'll try NHL 2000 for Playstation instead and see what that brings to the table, at least we'll save a few bucks!

5-0 out of 5 stars NHL + EA Sports = Best Hockey Game, period
Ever since waaaaaay back when it was called NHLPA Hockey, EA Sports has pretty much ruled the world of hockey gaming. So why, going on a decade later, should anything change? No reason, so EA keeps on dominating the genre of hockey gaming.

The graphics, while not really comparable to the groundbreaking acheivements of 'NFL Fever' or many of the NBA games coming out now, are the 2nd best to be featured in a hockey game, right next to 'NHL Hitz' (If you don't believe me, switch the camera view on Hitz to "Side" and you'll see what I mean.) The game runs as smooth as ever, but it gives up a bit of the trademark un-Godly fast, score-at-will pace the other installments in the series featured, and substitutes it with a dash of realism. Ever watch a hockey game and see all the players get into position, passing from player to player, biding their time until a shot presents itself? You can do it in this game. Ever seen a player skate down-ice as fast as humanly possible as make an insanly in-humanly sharp turn at the last instant, and keep control of the puck in the process? Neither have I, and you probably won't see it in this game. Ever seen Mario Lemieux light someone up with a body check, then throw down the gloves and get into a fight? I haven't, and haven't in this game either. The addition of the NHL cards, a feature that's been in the Madden games for the past 2 years I believe, is present for this game, and adds replay value to the game. The season mode is also very good, and also adds a bit more replay. I must also now add the fact that in the first year on season mode (I've only done 1 year so far) they add in the break for the Olympics, like they have in real life, adding a bit more to the realism. There's even a seperate mode to have a bit of an Olympics sytle tournament. You can even have 4-on-4 OT's that have been implimented in real-life play.

But even if it's a 5 star game and the best hockey game on the market, that doesn't mean there's not any flaws. The only major flaw in the game: The AI. Not that's it's bad, but rather that sometimes, it's a little too good. The computer almost ALWAYS scores on a breakaway or on a scoring opportunity. That 1 second opening in the defence? The computer ALWAYS sees it and ALWAYS shoots it when it's open and almost always scores. And on defence, the computer stops WAY too many shots. In real life, a goalie faces 40 shots, that's a lot, and it's expected that he'll give up 4-6 goals if it happens. In this game, you can open up the largest can of shot bombardment on the goalie, and he'll stop more than 90% of them. You'll score maybe 4-5 goals on over 100 shots. The computer is not forgiving, and unless you're on beginner or playing a bad team on easy, the computer NEVER gives up soft goals. And it takes a real good player (Player meaning in-game player, like Mario Lemiuex or Joe Sakic) to score on a breakaway on the computer. Other than that, there's no real faults worth mentioning, or that you'll really even notice.

Even with the more than challenging AI, NHL 2002 is the hands-down hockey game to buy, not rent, this year, just as it's been every year since the first installment. This is just one more gem of a game in one of the top 3 best sports franchises of all-time.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT HOCKEY GAME
GREAT EXITING GAME THAT REALLY GETS YOUR HEARTRATE UP. I CAN'T BE BEAT WITH JAMIR JAGR AND THE WASHINGTON CAPITALS.

5-0 out of 5 stars NHL 2002 - Hockey That Rocks Your House Into an Ice Rink-
This game rocks, the graphics are cool and the sound is very realistic. The Create-a-player option is very good, because of some simple steps you do to create a player, put his Checking ability, his agressive rating, and even his potencial and speed can be selected with just some clicks. I usually play with the pitsburgh penguins or the San Jose Sharks. You can create a team of your favorite players like Owen Nolan or even your created player of yourself. The fight mode in the games is awesome and the goal celebration cool. If you want to play a season, a world tournament with Team Canada or just a shootout the options are greate so you can guide yourself easy inside the Ice Rink. You can play with Joystick or a Game Pad or even with your own keyboard you can score goals and make natural hat-tricks with the power that offers you this 1 or 2 player game is awesome...

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok, but not much difference from the 2001 version...
I rented this game because of how much I liked previous NHL games made by EA Sports. So I picked this up and poped it in. The first thing I noticed was that there were a lot of little movies. Players getting pumped up before a game, celebrations on and off the ice. I thought that was pretty cool, and a new added feature. But other than little things like that, this game doesn't offer much of anything new. Here's what I thought about this game, and why I only thought it a renter, not a buyer.

1. The graphics: The players are sharper, the ice is thicker. The fans actually move in 3D! But overall, not to great. The puck is way too big, and the overall graphics just aren't to improved. This game had great graphics, but so did previous versions.

2. The options: HORRIBLE. No create a team, no new features. And the biggest thing, no FRANCHISE mode! That was about as dumb as having no franchise mode in NBA Live 2001. I am seriously disapointed by the options in this game. Nothing new whatsoever!

3. The overall depth: After your first season, this game will probably get pretty boring. More new features and better graphics is what this game needs. I hope EA changed things in 2003 edition. Oops, too bad! They did the same thing. Until they finally add some sort of franchise and stuff like that, EA's NHL series will continue, for me, to be a renter, not a buyer. Rent before u buy, then make your decision. Just a warning.

Hope this helped, and I expect a lot more from the great company that is EA. Thx! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A lot better than these reviews would indicate
Now I'm no EA Sports shill, but most gamers know by now that EA Sports cranks out a better quality lineup of sports games more consistently than any other publisher in the biz. They don't get rich by completely redesigning a game from the ground up. Usually they merely take last year's game engine, tweak it a bit, update the rosters, and pretty up the graphics. And I'm not here to pass judgment on them for that (though people scream bloody murder when 989 does the same thing, but that's a different story.)

So where were we? Oh, yes, Tiger Woods 2000. It is a good golf game, improved upon in many categories from last year, and continues to uphold EA Sports' good reputation within the gaming community. The graphics are nicer than '99, the cheesy blaring horrendously out-of-place screeching guitar tunes of '99 are thankfully gone in favor of the sounds of a real golf-course (imagine that!) The game overall just looks better & more refined, though the game plays very similarly to last year's title, though 2000 has more game modes to occupy your time with. And it's really a good golf simulator, with 2 types of swings to satisfy gamers who like it the old fashioned way (3-click digital) or a slightly new way (pushy analog).

But, not to seem too glowing, there are some pitfalls. I remember the PGA Tour series (EA's golf series for Sega Genesis) having many more golfers than Tiger's anemic "five." And why is it that no matter who I use in the game, it's always Tiger's voice commenting as though he has mysteriously occupied the mind of Janzen/Faxon/O'Meara/Leonard. And finally, I will touch upon what, for me, almost terminally crippled my enjoyment of this game: the putting. I have NEVER, in my many years of video game golf, encountered the sheer TORTURE involved in the putting of this game. The breaks are shown by this bizarre "earthquake cam" that accentuates the peaks and valleys but distorts them so poorly that it becomes like putting in a fun house mirror. And as if the impossible greens were difficult to read, Tiger Woods 2000 makes it possible to hook/slice a PUTT! Normally golf games will let the breaks determine left right, as long as you get the distance down. But here, you not only have to fight the hills/valleys, but make sure you don't HOOK/SLICE at the same time you make sure you don't OVER/UNDER. It is frustrating to the point of ridiculousness.

So TW2000, apart from the putting nightmares, is a stellar golf title. Graphically improved from the previous effort, as well as fleshed out with more gameplay modes and a general more toned-down sense of refinement (use the covers of each game as a metaphor, 99's fist-pumping theatrics VS 2000's smooth sand pitch.) Personally I think EA is capable of doing better, but what they're doing now works admirably.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tiger is Terrible
I can't tell you what a disappointment and shock it was to play this game. I really expected more from E A Sports. The graphics are substandard - which only adds to the unrealistic, generic feeling of the game.

You do not get a feel for the course in this game. Some of the more striking flaws of the game are: The ball is bigger than the hole while on the green. Tiger's canned comments wear thin very quickly! Quick inset of hole during putting is very poorly done and again course graphics are very poor

Unless you get a very good deal, don't waste your money like I did. I enjoy E A Sports' PGA Tour for Sega Genises more than this game. If you

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy It!
The worst EA follow-up since Madden '94. This game does little to nothing on improving the '99 version. The game play is slow, putting is a joke and the crazy sounds and views are out of place. This one only allows one player Tourney play too. I enjoyed the old Genesis version that allowed you and a friend to play a 4 round tourney using all of the courses. Boooooo!

3-0 out of 5 stars Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000
If you've played TW 1999, and liked it, you'll probably be disappionted with the relative lack of improvements to the new version. The graphics are slightly better, however the game play is slower. TW 2000 also lacks: Tiger's aggressive swing, crowd participation, Tiger Tips and jammin' music. In addition there also appears to be a glitch in the software, when you hit a bad shot (ie. shot is hit to the left) Tiger exclaims "Hook!" which would make the shot even worse. This is just one example of the "glitches" I noticed. To summarize: TW 1999 is more exciting and does a much better job of capturing the spirit and enthusiasm that Tiger brings to the game of golf. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This game brings fun for any age
This game is action packed with real life teams like Real Madrid, Arsenal, and many others, Also it has team just was from the U.S., like the boston breakers. I loved this game from the moment i got it out of the box! i recommend this game to whoever enjoys soccer. The only con the the graphics are very poor but other then that this game is high quality!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good soccers game for gameboy advanced.
Good teams, almost all UEFA teams, Real Madrid, Barza, Manchester, Arsenal, Newcastle, Juventus, Inter.

Pros: Good sounds.

Cros: Bad image quality.

Better than other soccer games for gameboy advaced.

3-0 out of 5 stars This game was almost good
The graphics were horrible, and it takes so long to do a tournament, even though they're are almost 30 tournys, and 40 weeks for each this game takes a very long time to beat i would only reccomend it to people who absolutley LOVE soccer and know what they're doing.

4-0 out of 5 stars FIFA
This game is worth the wait. This game has a few problems.#1.the graphics [are not good] and sometimes the ball goes off in awkward directons.Overall this game gets 4 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thank You...Fun on the road and at work!
I am really enjoying playing this game....I have waited and hoped that this game would turn out alright and playable...unlike past Gameboy Fifa games....
All the players are here and as usual it is a delight for true football fans...
One could piddle over the ratings of players...and if your out there Eddie Pope my truest feelings go out to you....
that said the player ratings are great fun...
overall...this is a 3.5 game
positives are the players...options for season and tournament with goal stats saved....
the goal keepers are stronger and if you have been great in the past just pump up the goalies to world class and the game becomes more interesting!!
passing is good but sometimes the ball goes off in bizarrrrrrre directions...mystery pass time....
you can set formations and there are LOADS of players on each team!!! thank you as this makes for great season runs with some realism..

drawbacks....well the is no injuries ....like I said mystery passes
the opponent team doesnt pass very much...and makes some stupid strategic decisions....
its a simple game really with few perks but it will give me a lot of joy during my free time at work!!

thanks and make another one...and be kind to eddie pope next time please..... ... Read more

Editorial Review

Tracing the evolution of console football can take you on a nostalgic trip back to games like Tecmo Bowl and Walter Payton Football, but the genre reached the mainstream with the release of the first Madden Football title in the early '90s. Since then, Madden has become the pro football simulation game to beat.

One key to the series' longevity is that it has never deviated from the original formula of perfectly balancing entertaining gameplay with realistic feel. So naturally, Madden NFL 2000 brings that same addictive feel, while being spruced up with tons of peripheral options. The most noticeable changes from last year's version are the faster gameplay and smoother frame rates.

Madden NFL 2000 features all 31 NFL teams, all-time Super Bowl teams, the Madden Millennium team, and 200 more that can be "unlocked." The game uses the patented TV-style presentation with play-by-play commentary by John Madden and Pat Summerall. Improved player and play editors, comprehensive player movement, trading for draft picks, and the awesome franchise mode, all combined in one package, produce a title that is unparalleled in console gaming. It's time to tackle Madden NFL 2000 and make it one to own. --Sajed Ahmed

5-0 out of 5 stars The best one yet!
I started playing "Madden" football starting with Madden '98. I loved it. Then moved on to '99. I loved it even more. Now, with Madden 2000, the games just get better and better. I love the franchise mode. You can trade more than one player along with draft picks. Sign players at any time, and my favorite thing, the players get better with time & experience. The gameplay is the best of the previous Madden games. Shoestring catches, tiptoeing down the sideline, big plays, and tough defense. As far as football games go, It doesn't get any better than this. I can't tear myself away from the playstation because of this game. Don't hesitate buying it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Football Game Yet
Madden 2000 is the best sports game I've ever played. I've been playing sports games, particularly football games, all the way back to the ATARI 2600 days, and no game has been even close to this one. First of all, I'll start off with the obvious; the graphics are amazing. Anyone can see this the minute they start playing a game. Every year, the players look more and more life-like. I can't wait to see what the Madden crew will cook up for the Playstation 2. The game-play on all past Madden versions has been excellent, and the latest version is, of course, an improvement. However, the aspect that sets this game apart from past versions is the fact that I never get sick of it. I've been playing it (almost exclusively) since it came out, and I still can't wait to play it again; I think my wife might file for divorce because she's sick of watching me play it! In this version, the options available as a general manager between seasons are so interesting, that I keep playing season after season. Players abilities change from season to season; players retire; you can re-sign players or release them; you can make trades for players or draft picks; free agents can be created, but you can't just put them on your team, you have to sign them and fit them under the salary cap; you can sign other free agents; you can draft and sign rookies; and last you can rearrange your depth chart and get ready for the next season. It's interesting just to see how the players you draft progress from year to year. Finally, the Madden Challenge keeps my interest level high; this series of in game tasks and trivia questions provides extra incentive to keep playing the game, in case the game itself isn't addicting enough for you. All in all, I found this game challenging, but easy enough that it wasn't frustrating; the graphics are great; and the general manager options and Madden Challenge keep the game interesting indefinitely. If you're looking for a sports game to buy that will be fun to play for a long time to come, Madden NFL 2000 is the one to choose.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun game but...
Even after a couple of years this version of Madden can still be fun to play. It looks and plays better than the previous version. You get plenty of options such as the ability to play great games from the past, such as the playoff game between The Dolphins and Chargers from the early 80's and a madden challange, such as completing certain tasks during the game to earn points, unlocking secret teams and stadiums, and the franchise mode can be played up to 30 seasons and is the best feature. Unfortunately, I've noticed as I've progressed through the franchise mode, some of the games I play tend to freeze up, which can be very annoying, specially if your having a good game. Sometimes I've had to skip to the next game after I've restarted the game a few times, and it would freeze up during gameplay again, booooo! I wonder.. if EA actually tests their product out to make sure it runs ok before releasing it. When I used to play Madden '96 and '97 on The Super Nes I'd create players and save a season only too find out after a short period of time the memory was back at zero again and I never deleted anything. In Madden 2001 for Playstation I tried to load my season some time ago but got a message how the file couldn't be loaded. It's too bad such a problem like this has to occur in an overly good game or any game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hey, even though im 12, read my review
Hey, if you like football, than go and buy this game. The graphics are superb. All the madden challgne make the game nore better than the rest. Go on many season. O yea, theres one thing that [is not good] that makes it a four star, i can cream the other team in offense but not in d-fense. I can get over 1,000 yards passing every game, with the Dallas Cowboys and have 7 players to have over 100 yds per game in yds in catching. and all running backs over 200 yds each. But in defense the other team gets over 600 yds, but i beat them like 200 to 16, but itz fun. So if you like football, than get this game, ...!

5-0 out of 5 stars Madden at it's best
This is one of the best madden games that came out for the Psone

Everything about this game is great except the players really

stink up the place when they get injured. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Considering its humble beginnings on the Sega Genesis, the Maddenseries has come a long way (and even moreyardage has been covered by the PlayStation2's inaugural scrimmage). Even withexpectations high, Madden NFL 2001 for the Nintendo 64 is very, verygood. This game looks better than the original NFL Quarterback Club--anearly standard in football visuals--and plays like the previous year's versionof Madden on the PlayStation.

EA Sports has added some new playability features, such as collectable MaddenCards for fulfilling certain tasks in the game. The Madden Cards can be tradedwith friends, using the Nintendo 64 memory card, and can be used to unlocksecret game codes, players, stadiums, and legendary NFL teams. The new two-minutedrill feature allows up to 10 players to compete for the highest score.

But Madden NFL 2001does have some trouble in a couple of areas. The CPUhas a problem with clock management when it is behind with time running out;sometimes it will fail to call a time-out and let the clock expire at the halfor at the end of the game. Madden himself sounds a little run down in this gameas he only has a few phrases and he says them over and over and over. The crowdnoise and the cheers are not very well done and can get annoying.

Despite its few flaws, pound for pound this is the best NFL football title evermade for the Nintendo 64. --Todd Mowatt

Pros:

  • Best football game yet made for the Nintendo 64
  • Collectable Madden Cards can be used to unlock secret game codes, players, stadiums, and teams
  • New 2-minute drill feature
Cons:
  • Clock-management bug sometimes lets time expire at the half
  • Repetitive Madden phrases

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Madden on N64
Madden 2001 is the best football game on N64. The graphics are improved, the animation is smooth, and play control is nice. There are some nice added features, like finally the ability to pull the ball down as the QB and run if no one is open or if your QB is in trouble. The computer seems to finally call penalties, which makes it more realistic.

The Madden commentary is still terrible(why doesn't EA take a hint?). Also, you can modify the computer AI, making them run/pass more, and set the kind of playcalling(aggressive, conservative, normal). However, even if you set the game to mostly run, the CPU still seems very pass-happy, no matter what team they are. Oh yeah, and you will get burned if you don't put major pressure on the QB, even if you have an all-star secondary.

Despite the horrible commentary and the strange AI, this is still a very, very solid game, and I would tell any football fan to buy it since QB Club stinks, and Blitz is just for casual fans. So go out and buy this!

4-0 out of 5 stars First Down!
This may be the last iteration of Madden for N64... a gaming console showing its age. Madden has improved once again and delivered a quality gaming experience. This is not a football simulation for purists. Even on the higher difficulty levels, skilled players can create unusual statistics. In the NFL, not many backs will finish a season averaging 8 yards per carry. What Madden 2001 offers is good football fun. The learning curve is not steep and even novice gamers should be able to orchestrate touchdown drives pretty quickly.

The game does have more depth than many sports games, including a franchise mode and "Madden Cards." Once you tire of 'head to head' games with your friends, you can play an entire season or manage a franchise. Again, this is not a simulation for purists. The salary cap is not realistic and the computer AI has the usual flaws including poor clock management and play calling. (The computer loves to pass the ball. You'll spend most of your time on defense in a nickel or dime.)

The Madden Cards add a nice element to the game with temporary player enhancements, cheats and historical players and teams. For older football fans, it's fun to see long-retired hall of famers in cleats playing against modern competition.

The franchise mode is relatively easy to manage and adds to the replay value of the game. The game has depth when you watch a rookie you drafted slowly become an NFL star. Of course, with stardom comes increased salary demands. This forces players to trade high-priced veterans to replenish the ranks with quality rookies.

For football fans, Madden 2001 is a fun game and will extend the enjoyment of your aging N64... at least until PS2s become readily availalbe (and more affordable).

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't get this
You shouldn't get this because for 1, none of the trades are up to date. Also if you were to get this you wouldn't get all the cool features that John Madden 2002 like 2minute drill where you can be on defense. ALso th Madden cards are way better inth 2002 version because you can get cheerleader cards. Also in the 2002 versiof the levels of diffiulty like on All Madden mode is actually hard and if your good you won't absulutely blow out the other team.Another reason you Shouldn't get this is because if you got this you wouldn't be able to use the Houston Texans which only 2002 has.

2-0 out of 5 stars very frustrating
I just couldn't enjoy this game. I would get filled with anger and have to turn it off. I don't know if all these people played this game for N64 but the only thing going for this game is the graphics. The AI isn't good, it just cheats. Their guys can run and catch through your guys. It is impossible to run, because it is nearly impossible to break tackles. Your man is never open because when you throw the ball the computer players get a sudden burst of speed and all of a sudden your guy is triple-teamed by the time the ball gets there. Penalties are usually in favor the computer. Madden 2002 is a much better game, but that isn't on N64. If I had to buy for 64, I would ethier get QB Club 2001 or Madden 2000.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy Football fan
This game is REALLY fun! I have it and I created a season with the Bucconers and Made a NFL Record with the team, and W.Dunn. Awsome game if your getting it for you or something,I garentee that they will have fun with it.at first its kinda hard to control the pad;so,Have fun!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth It!!!!!!!!
This game is not worth it at all!!!!! First, the players looks like they don't have helmets! Sencond, you can't make other team hard! It is always easy and every time you throw the ball you would always get a tochdown! 3rd, you can't trade for players and sign free angets. There is no NFL draft and no franchise mode. Overall its not worth the money and very soon you will get bord of it. Listen to my advice and I hope this review helped you very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Football is always fun!
My first game...and I loved it. Football on your gameboy always is fun.

3-0 out of 5 stars could be better
this is a good game but there is much room for improvement. frist off the plays are the same plays in madden95. next the graphics are terrible. i have nfl blitz which was made in 97 and the graphics are almost as good. third, the game is so easy. my 8 year old brother beat the falcons 77 to 37 in 5 minute quaters with the panthers. and the teams are not as updated as u would think they dont have the names of players so you have to know the numbers and starters dont even start these are just some examples faulk doen't start for the rams, culpepper moss and carter are all backups for the vikings. last the defence is so easy to master. but i gave it a 3 because it fun and you can play for hours

1-0 out of 5 stars this game (STINKS)!!

3-0 out of 5 stars slow
tiger woods has to make a golf game that you can play in less then a hour, this game takes an hour and a half for two people to finish a round

1-0 out of 5 stars WASTE OF $
Boooooring! That is the one word that comes to mind. They should have spent more money developing a decent game than spending so much on marketing the game. The courses were boring, the graphics were sub par and the sound effects are terrible. Not even worth a rental.

2-0 out of 5 stars sleeper
CyberTiger has no excitement. I was expecting booming tee shots and Tiger's excitement in golf, but this game has put me to sleep! Graphics aren't bad, but the excitement in the game isn't there.

2-0 out of 5 stars don't waste your money
This game looked promising however it was disappointing. Very similar to Tiger Woods 99 which I own. Not enough golfers to begin with and what would have made sense since this is a game geared for kids why didn't they create as minature golf course, now that would have been a cool twisted. One feature I did like is the "contour screen" showing the dips and slopes of the green or course. That made it easier to lineup the shots an gauge the amount of power was neccesary. Worth a rental, but even bored my 7 year old son.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first Tiger
This game is decent. However, it seems to be developed for a younger player. Those that enjoyed Tiger '99 will not find this game as exciting or challenging. (Not that the '99 was very challenging), but this game lacks even the skill used to dominate in '99. New courses always excite a player, but in this version it is not worth it. The career mode is kind of cool, but the overall play is about the same, wait for Tiger to grow up another year before purchasing a game he endorses. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

One month out of each year is devoted to the insanity of the NCAAplayoffs. The annual ritual of March Madness includes dozens of teams, thehottest young players, salivating scouts, chair-hurling coaches, small schools, big schools, cheerleaders, the hopes and dreams of thousands of alumni, and, ofcourse, complete TV coverage.

With March Madness 2002, EA Sports brings its college basketballfranchise to the PlayStation2 for another year. But despite fidelity to thecollege game, the result is more of a thud than a bounce. The problem isn'treally the game itself. The Play Now exhibition and full-scale tournament modesare fine, and the game includes 150 teams all detailed down to players, uniforms, fight songs, cheerleaders, players, stats, and play styles. You evenhave the option of creating your own team with everything from uniforms toplayers. The problem is what's missing compared to the competition and toprevious incarnations of March Madness on the PlayStation. About 150teams, the dynasty mode, and even the season mode are MIA! Why are these keyfeatures missing? Disappointing, to say the least.

At least the game plays a decent game of basketball and is true to NCAA rulesand quirks. It shares some problems--the computer crowds the lane too much--anda graphics engine with NBA Live 2002, but at least the previousrebounding problems are fixed. And the game looks great, too, even though mostof the players don't have their real faces like in the NBA version. The audio isalso excellent; the game features roughly 60 distinctive fight songs, and thecrowd roars and quiets down with the action. --Bob Andrews

Pros:

  • Plays and looks just like the college game
  • Excellent audio
Cons:
  • Missing 150 teams from previous installments
  • Some game modes have disappeared

4-0 out of 5 stars The best b-ball game I've played. It will surprise you.
I just purchased this game yesterday and was surprised by how good it is. In my opinion it is a more exciting game to play than NBA Live 2002, even though the controls are basically the same. The game seems to move at a quicker pace than NBA Live and the graphics are fantastic. I do think that EA Sports can ramp up this game in the future, by adding season modes and actual arenas that the teams play in (right now only the courts are accurate.) Also, the announcing could be improved. They should really go after the ESPN announcing team (i.e. Dick Vitale, etc.) like they did on NCAA Football 2002, which in my opinion has the most realistic announcing and best sound of any sports game I've ever played. If you like college basketball, you'll like this game. It definitely blows away 989 Sports Final Four, which may be the worst game ever made.

March Dumbness 2002
This game .... I should have rented it first. PLease don't buy it. If you are a person who likes graphics and no content whatsoever, this game is all yours. Whatever happened to the dynasty mode that MM2001 had? When you create a school you can't really enter it into the tournament. Another thing: it's really cool to see your guy dunk and break the glass on the backboard, but it is really annoying when you see it 5-6 times a game. THe dunks are great; there are so many of them. Another annoying thing is when you up-fake you usually make your shot. Like I already said the graphics are great. The courts, jerseys, player faces, and their bodies are pretty accurate. Frankly, this game should never have been on the market. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!

1-0 out of 5 stars I hated this game!
This game was just not fun to me. First of all the game just had a exhibition mode and a tourny mode, and after a while the game gets really boring. They should have of put a Franchise mode or at least a season in there. The graphics were ok, and the best thing was that you could create-a-team. But that was really the only good things. I thought both NCAA March Madness 2002, and NCAA Final Four 2002 could have been better. I guess I'll have to wait untill next year.

1-0 out of 5 stars NCAA March Madness 2002
I thought it was a big disappointment to me. It was just not deep enough. You know you are in trouble when you just have tournement mode. The graphics were ok and I liked create a team, but that was all I liked during the game. Both NCAA March Madness 2002, and NCAA Final Four 2002 were flukes they suked!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
The graphics are great and the people looks so real. You can create your own team! I made one that has all the things that are about my school for the school info. You can also name the people on your team and make them look how ever you want! I think you should buy this game! All those other people are just winers. Wah, wah, wah. Now go buy this game now! 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best
As an owner of a few Fifa Games, I would definitely have to say this is the best I've played. Though I bought it about a year ago I can play it daily and be easily entertained. Most will argue that this is a [take off]game, too hard, not worth the money, but I'm surprised as it is such a new game, that the price is as low as it is. The kicking 'meter' was a new invention and idea for this game. In other soccer games you touch a button and the ball launches from the foot of the player. With Fifa's newest game, its a little tricky: There's a meter which you choose how fast the ball travels, and how far.
Fifa's usual stuff is also included. Several leagues, and great players. The only letdown is that it has the Fifa World Cup Qualification instead of the Cup itself. No doubt, its still a great game.
Its worth every cent.

3-0 out of 5 stars ridiculous & inaccurate AI takes any fun right out of it
I'll give the developers credit for attempting to fix the previously dull and boring FIFA efforts, but they went too far in the opposite direction and have now created a frustrating & boring game.

The worst thing about previous incarnations of the game was the "magnet ball," the innate ability for every pass to connect with the target player EVERY time. It limited the ability to be creative in play selection and didn't mirror the real game closely enough. In addition, the camera was formerly too tight, not permitting the player to see the field around him, and FIFA's colored arrow system was too inaccurate too much of the time to plan careful passing.

So now we have a "total control" type system where your passes are now handled like shots: every pass is accompanied by a power meter and passes can end up anywhere. Sounds good, right? If you want to lead a receiver, or pass into space, you can. Well, not so fast, junior. The camera has thankfully been pulled back, but at the expense of graphical detail, giving the game an overall washed-out pixellated, less-than-impressive look. Not to mention passing opportunites are still too far out of frame to mean anything except pass and hope it makes it to your guy. And the passing is so maddeningly touchy that you will be lucky to complete a majority of passes without looking like an utter amateur, passing out of touch or even right at an opponent.

Now, the unforgiving new pass system might get away with it, if it weren't for the completely disparate difficulty levels. The amateur level is too easy, and will have you scoring literally at will. But then try to step up to the mid-level, and the game gets very cheap very fast. The passes that take finesse and luck for you to pull off the CPU pulls off immediately and seemingly without thought. Every one of THEIR passes is pinpoint and perfectly timed, while you are lucky to keep possession (I guarantee you will lose the possession % battle every time, 70/30 or 60/40.) This means when you get the ball, it's a mad dash resulting from you the player jamming on the triangle (speed) button in a cheap attempt to get to the goal before the cheap AI slide tackles you from behind. And have fun laughing in pain as the defensive AI seemingly is aware of your moves before you execute them. I can't count the number of times a defender has managed to successfully trap a long ball, turn, and complete a pinpoint pass to his mate, all within microseconds of a sliding challenge from me. It's almost not worth playing defense when the opponents are this bionic and psychic, with consistently split-second reflexes.

This gameplay is absolutely ZERO fun. Gameplay goes a little like this:
Watch the CPU complete pass after pass, retaining possession in a Pele-esque manner, until you finally stop them with 1 out of 10 well-placed standing tackles. You then see their side bearing down on you, realizing your team gives up the ball quicker than a Hong Kong trinket machine, so you start tapping furiously at the triangle button, only to get to the box and get taken down, usually without so much as a call. Rinse and repeat.

So the bottom line is, in changing the flow, the developers merely erred to the side of anarchy rather to the side of conservative staleness. It still results in precious little fun, especially in the 1-player games.

1-0 out of 5 stars Rip Off!!!
This game is horrible for a number of reasons. It seems that the developers learned about soccer playing fussball on their lunch break. The commentaries are 80% directly from FIFA 2001. The graphics and gameplay is likewise. Their new passing and shooting system makes no sense--you will always pass forward, hoping there is a player there to get it and if you come one on one with the keeper you have to hold the power button long enough for the keeper to pick the ball off your player. I won all the championships with an average possession of only 30 percent. Playing on the highest difficulty setting, I won the games with a weak team on the first try against one of the hardest opponents. The computer oppenent had 5 red cards. As a matter of fact, I have not played a game without any red cards yet--red cards punishing AI. Most of the red cards are caused by the goalkeeper!!! What is EA thinking? Furthermore, the developers have no concept of advantage play. Most of the goals scored were penalty shots. It's not fun winning 5-1 when the five goals are scored by penalties. AI will attack you as soon as you enter the penalty area and then their player will get a red card on the normal setting for ref. strictness--if you lower the strictness level, the opposing team will keep taking out your players in the penalty area. It's a catch 22. Free kicks stink--similar to the development of this game, no good effort can be made regardless of your skills. As far as the leagues go, EA did not do any research. Who gives a damn about Norwegian, Danish, and Israeli leagues? On the other hand, the Dutch league (a consistent supplier of teams to the Champions Cup finals) and all of the Southern American leagues are not there!!! I am not saying take out the lesser known leagues, but do some research and put the good ones in as well. As a matter of fact, there are only 14 leagues that allow you to play full season, not the advertised 16. Want to see your favorite players on a national team-good luck! Some teams are completely made up of numbers--no player names on the entire team, and I am not talking about Turkmenistan. They took out the best out of FIFA 2001 and added features and teams that make no sense (you can change the facial hair of you players but not play with you favorite teams). The rankings of teams seem to be completely orbitrary--if its not Italy, Brazil, or Spain, the team has one notch for every ability. I would not spend a dollar on the game if I could play it in advance. It seems that EA produced this game overnight, without putting any efforts into it. If they had a grain of honesty, they would have included the world cup in FIFA 2002. I was very opptimistic when I purchased the game, and a day later, I could not be more disappointed. EA should be ashamed of this indecency. I just wish somebody else would purchase rights from FIFA, somebody who actually knows a little bit about soccer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so great
When I first found out FIFA 2002 was coming out I already knew that there was going to be a World Cup qualifier since the World Cup was going to be this year. But i did not know that there was going to be a separate World Cup game because FIFA 98 had qualifying and the world Cup 98 in France. Also it doesn't have the names of all the players. Like for El Salvador it says N. 5 and other teams. Maybe in the back of the manual instead of announcing a different game they should say World Cup 2002. I'm very disappointed

5-0 out of 5 stars Fifa 2002
Fifa 2002 what a great game, there is many great teams and really cool players. I like the team Mexico because this team is not only great but really good. I enjoy scoring many goals and beating the other teams. I can slide tackle people and gat red or yellow cards, even though I get either one of those cards it is still fun tackling players you don't like. ... Read more

Omigawd! I've never played such a lame and stupid game! If you buy this piece of degeridoo, you must be an idiot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tigger's are wonderful things!
Why do all the best games come out at the END of a systems life? Well, I guess its a good thing the new Gameboy plays Gameboy color games too because if you have kids or are a fan of Winnie the Pooh you won't want to miss this. The gameplay itself is no major breakthrough, you just play as Tigger and collect hunny pots in various areas of the 100 Acre Woods. The graphics are some of the best I have seen though. The control is great too. I never had a problem making Tigger jump when I needed him too. I'm not quite sure why they called this "Pooh and Tigger's Hunny Safari"? The story takes place in the woods, not the Jungle and you play as Tigger almost the entire time. Honestly though, this game deserves a look. If you've never been impressed by a gameboy games artwork this one might change your mind. The game will keep younger players busy for awhile and older players will enjoy the games old school style of gameplay. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not really a good gbc translation
I loved the computer version of madden 2001 but the game boy game just does not cut it. The graphics are moderate and the sound is ok, but the gameplay is just boring. The password season thing is horrible, as you have to remember a 15 letter password that changes each time you play a game just to get into a season.

The computer version had great graphics, gameplay, and moderate sound. The game boy color version has poor gameplay, moderate sound, and moderate if not poor graphics.

The players are a bunch of little square like images with little bumps for helmets. The controls are ok, but still this game could have had so much more depth. EA Sports spent too much time on plays and not enough time on everything else. The phisics in this game are strange, and you cant always tell where the ball is going. The player and teams don't matter much, as you can score and do pretty much everything with any player.

The sound is moderate, but it is not played during the game. The opening screen and other places where the sound is played are also designed well, unlike the actual game. The tune can be a little catchy, and the sound effects arent bad. Still, the sound doesnt add up to much.

The game is not very well built at all. It is very boring to play a whole season, because you cant really save in the middle of a game. The games, even when set to 5 minute quarters, last over an hour. The gameplay is exactly the same each time, with you being either blown out or winning by over 50. It can be really boring to play a 16 game season plus playoffs when each game is the same. The game play is so boring, i couldnt get past the first game.

The password part is also horrible. Why should you have to type up a 15 letter password to enter your game when other games yet you go in for free? It takes forever to write it down, remeber where you put it, and enter it in. I dont see why they cant let you save in the middle in the game. If they did that i would love the game.

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth it!!!!!!!!!
Don't buy this game! Because first, you cant trade players or you cant sign free angets. 2nd the players look like they dont have helmets!!! 3rd there is no franchise and you cant make the gameplay hard. Every game you win by over 50 points. Your O-Line dosent block because when you wait in the pocket you will always get sacked! There is no person talking during the game! You dont here John Madden. Trust me during the season you will get very very bored! Listen to my advice and I hope this review helped you alot....

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad
I do not recommend this game because I think your're better off buying Madden 2000! This game has bad graphics and there is no gameplay.

2-0 out of 5 stars this game ...!
this is one of the worst games i have purchased. the players look like little dots. when playing the defense you cannot tackle very well if at all. there are almost no interceptions or fumbles. n offense almost every pass is a completion. you can pretty much run all over the computer and last but not least why even have a kicking game. to sum it up there has to be a better game with some kind of compettion, i mean i like an offensive game as much as the next person but this is rediciouls.
