Editorial Review It's simple to use (kids insert the cartridge and book into their LeapPads, and use the attached stylus to hear information), but this system is an innovative technology that provides entertaining, effective learning, designed by a Stanford-trained reading expert. As well, the system has been credited with the TMA's Educational Toy of the Year and People's Choice awards. The books are designed to correlate with national academic standards for the grade levels they target. Two notes: Make sure the LeapPad book you get is appropriate for the child's educational level; this one should be a challenge for kids up to age 8. As well, know that some LeapBooks work on both LeapPad and LeapPad Pro, like this one, but some books only work with one system. --Diane Beall Reviews (9)

My best advice is to buy this game for it's element of fun, long-lasting gameplay, and the fact that it is just like the movie.
The gameplay consists of standard action/adventure fare. Sulley is to find a number of particular items scattered across different areas, including pieces of Boo's door, laugh cannisters, Boo's teddy bear, etc. Find 100 pieces of candy for an extra life - sound familiar? There is nothing groundbreaking here, but it isn't a chore to play as it controls extremely well and the levels are laid out very well. The graphics and animation are top-notch for a GBA game, as Sulley and just about every other character in the game are animated very clearly and smoothly. Bottom Line - If you enjoyed the movie, there is an excellent chance you will enjoy this game - especially the younger bunch. -RoB

Amazon.com Product Description Based on Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc. movie, this not-so-scary action game takes place in the realm that makes things go bump in the night. Play as James P. Sullivan, a.k.a. Sulley, a huge, softhearted monster with blue fur, big purple spots, and horns. He's just doing his job when he has to get scary. Or you can play as his quirky sidekick Mike, a feisty little one-eyed monster that's colored so bright green just looking at him will keep you awake. Play in huge, colorful environments, where you learn to become a top scarer for the Monsters, Inc. franchise. Train across the desert, snow-capped mountains, city streets, and at the academy. Complete exercises designed to hone your scaring abilities, sharpen your scaring tactics, and more. If you've got what it takes to rise through the ranks of the scare chain, you may even have what it takes to unlock all 36 hidden scares. With more than 15 monstrous zones, each fur-raising level remains faithful to the movie's story line and is filled with exploration, puzzles, and Monsters, Inc. activities. Run, bounce, belly flop, cannonball roll, and tail spin your way past dozens of different enemies. Perform the coolest scares as Sulley or Mike with 18 unique animations for each character. Navigate through a maze of monstrosities as you try to find and scare small creatures, known as Nerves, so you can fill your Scare Canisters. Reviews (12)
[Quote]Now for the "but"....It is unfortunate that the creators of this game supposed that only little kids would be the ones who would be playing the game. Graphics are clunky and highly pixelated. This is definitely not the "eye candy" most of us are used to from our gaming systems any more. It may not be quite as bad as the old nintendo games were, but it's close. Just because the game is for youngsters doesn't mean the same care shouldn't be put into creating it, especially when it is riding on the "monster tails" of a wonderful and visualy stunning movie.[Quote] Now this is pretty wrong to say it was almost as bad as nintendo graphics considering it is impossible to make even super nes flush out those visuals. The graphics are great and the little grey box does have a limit but still with no doubt kids will love the graphics, they are colourful cartoony and easy to follow. It seems like the little grey box hasn't been booted just yet...With games like these coming out monthly it might have a few more years left in it....Who knows? -GuS ... Read more | |
