4-0 out of 5 stars Pllantides, the command of Conan's Black Dragons
McFarlane Toys has put together characters from Robert E. Howard's only Conan novel "Hour of the Dragon" (a.k.a. "Conan the Conqueror" to those of us who read the Lancer paperbacks with the Frank Frazetta covers as our introduction to the character) for the second series of Conan action figures. The story is of Conan when he is the middle-aged king of the ancient kingdom of Aquilonia who has to fight a final battle against Xaltotun, a resurrected sorcerer. But while armies are clashing Conan has to find the fabled Heart of Ahriman to defeat his enemy. He also meets a slave girl in Nemedia that he will make queen of Aquilonia. But while Conan is going after the Heart he needs somebody to command his army in his absence.

This 6" figure is of Pallantides of the Black Dragon, Conan's field commander in the Aquilonian army.He is shown in full battle armor, including a shield, and is about to draw his sword (there is also a the ruins of a small column as the base). If you want to pass him off for a Roman or Greek warrior you will be able to get away with it.This figure actually makes the character look a lot stronger than he did in the novel, where Pallantides had a tendency to be a bit subservient (much was made of the fact that Pallantides was a civilized man and had trouble understanding Conan given the rather interesting route by which the Cimmerian came to the throne of Aquilonia).Howard may or may not have gotten the name from Greek mythology, where the Pallantides were the people that Theseus defeated right before the decided to go to Crete and stop the sacrifice of Athenian youths to the Minotaur.

Series II includes the King Conan of Aquilonia on his throne that is pretty much the last shot we have of the character in the "Conan the Barbarian" film (admit it, this is the one you want the most) and Battle Conan (a.k.a. Conan the Warrior). The rest of Series II consists of Zenobia, the dancing girl and Conan's future queen; Xaltotun the Undead, the skeletal sorcerer; and the Man-Eating Haunter of the Pits. This last one explains why Battle Conan is suspended in the air on a really long support peg, because the base of this figure connects with Haunter of the Pits to form an interactive diorama. You can have Pallantides going after Xaltotun, but it would not be an "official" diorama.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best
This action figure is superb in detail as well as quality. The figure really brings you face to face with the Conan legend and really stirs the imagination to visualize heroic battle scenes where the battle prowess of this warrior, along with that of Conan, will really make the difference. Hats off to McFarlane for a job well done! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Xaltotun the Undead, the villain of "Hour of the Dragon"
The Conan Series II Figures, McFarlane Toys consist entirely of characters from Robert E. Howard's only Conan novel "Hour of the Dragon" (a.k.a. "Conan the Conqueror" for those of us who read the Lancer paperbacks with the Frank Frazetta covers that we ran to once Marvel's "Conan the Barbarian" comic book reintroduced the character to a new generation of fans). The story is of Conan when he is the middle-aged king of the ancient kingdom of Aquilonia who has to fight a final battle against Xaltotun, a resurrected sorcerer. Armies are not going to win this one and Conan has to find the fabled Heart of Ahriman to defeat his enemy. Along the way he will meet a slave girl in Nemedia that he will make queen of Aquilonia.

This 6" figure is of Xaltotun the Undead (the short and sweet way of saying he is resurrected), who is brought back by the the conspirators Orastes, Amalric, Valerius, and Tarascus using the power of the magical gem called the Heart of Ahriman. The skeletal sorcerer comes with scepter and a book of evil spells, along with a base to stand on as he comes right for you. Obviously the figure looks like something out of an ancient Egyptian nightmare, but, of course, in the Hyborian world created by Howard he is a Stygian. As the end result of a long line of necormancers, Xaltotun represents evil incaranate in the novel, so it is probably a good thing that he is not aware that he has been raised from the dead. This is a pretty creepy looking raised from the dead Stygian necormancer.

Series II includes the King Conan of Aquilonia on his throne, which comes in a big square package as opposed to the blister packs like the Battle Conan figure. The rest of Series II consists of Pallantides of the Black Dragon, Conan's field commander in full battle armor; Zenobia, the beautiful harem girl; and the Haunter of the Pit (which links up with the Battle Conan to make the Series II diorama). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars There is a reason Battle Conan is suspended in mid-air
For the Conan Series II Figures, McFarlane Toys has put together characters from Robert E. Howard's only Conan novel "Hour of the Dragon" (a.k.a. "Conan the Conqueror" to those of us who read the Lancer paperbacks with the Frank Frazetta covers as our introduction to the character). The story is of Conan when he is the middle-aged king of the ancient kingdom of Aquilonia who has to fight a final battle against Xaltotun, a resurrected sorcerer.Armies are not going to win this one and Conan has to find the fabled Heart of Ahriman to defeat his enemy.Along the way he will meet a slave girl in Nemedia that he will make queen of Aquilonia.

Series II includes the King Conan of Aquilonia on his throne that is pretty much the last shot we have of the character in the "Conan the Barbarian" film (admit it, this is the one you want the most). However, this is the other Conan figure, Battle Conan (a.k.a. Conan the Warrior). The rest of Series II consists of Pallantides of the Black Dragon, Conan's field commander in full battle armor; Zenobia, the beautiful harem girl; Xaltotun the Undead, the skeletal sorcerer; and the Man-Eating Haunter of the Pits. This last one is important to know about because it explains why Battle Conan is suspended in the air on a really long support peg: the base of this figure connects with Haunter of the Pits to form an interactive diorama.

Battle Conan is shown in mid-leap, his sword in his left hand and the axe by which he rule sin his right. For a warrior in battle he is remarkably free of armor, which is usually useful under such circumstances, but it does allow you to enjoy the figure's rippling muscles with all those impressive veins with all those pulsing Cimmerian blood rushing through them in the heat of battle. The axe looks like some ornate wall decoration from a castle, so hopefully it will be functional in the next ten seconds. The articulation with this 6-inch figure is limited to the bicep of the left arm, which allows you to position the sword as you desire. To date King Conan on this throne is my favorite of the four Conans produced in the first dozen figures of this series. After that where Battle Conan fits with Conan the Cimmerian and Conan the Indomitable is, to coin a phrase, up in the air. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars My, what big tusks you have, Man-Eating Haunter of the Pits

The figure of the Haunter is six inches tall, but since he in squatting on his haunches it would be a lot bigger if it stood up.There are some bones clutched in its left hand (and skulls at its feet) while its right talons are reaching up to take a swipe at Conan. This is basically an ape-like creature with some nice touches to make it look freakier. The figure has some limited articulation on the left bicep, which is the same as the Conan the Warrior figure. The rest of Series II consists of Pallantides of the Black Dragon, Conan's field commander in full battle armor; Zenobia, the beautiful harem girl; and Xaltotun the Undead, the skeletal sorcerer.

EXCELLENT for the price!!!!
I bought this set and I gotta tell you, this is an AWESOME set!! Just by looking at it, it would seem to be a set that would cost anywhere from $30-$50, but guess what, IT ISN'T!!! Although the way they are positioned, it isn't a "play" toy, but the type of an eye-candy toy that you would put on display. It is so detalied, that it almost looks like a model for the actual movie itself!!! The weapons are beautifully detailed, and Neo's action figure is amazing! I love how that captured Neo kicking in mid-air and the other figure is flying backwards!!! It's great!!! If you are a fan of the Matrix, McFarlane toys, or even just great action figures, you REALLY, REALLY gotta pick up this set!!!! It will NOT disappoint!!!

Best Action Figures...Period!
I have the entire Mcfarlane Matrix Series 1 collection and they are by far the most detailed, precisely crafted action figures I have ever seen. They also increase in value very rapidly. You can't lose with Mcfarlane Matrix. Bring on Series 2!

Resembles a more expensive statue
When you see this item in person, you'll see that it looks like a very expensive statue. Like something that would cost over a hundred dollars.

The price is great for such a highly delailed set. If you liked the movie then you should get this item.

WOW! McFarlane does it again!
The Matrix Series 1 by McFarlane is easily one of his best works, and finally anfter weeks of waiting the Neo in Chateau Box Set comes out. Judgeing from the contents you may think the weapons or break apart statue may not last long, but I assure you these are VERY durable. I love how they captured Neo in mid-air and the opponent falling back but still in the air as well. This is however not ment so much as a play toy but as eye candy (as many McFarlane fans would know). Though due to its durability it can take a little wear and tear but not too much. I have two of these, one MIB and one out on display. If you are a fan of the Matrix, McFarlane, or both and want to add on or continue your collection buy this NOW!!! You won't be dissapointed ...
