Who would have thought a kitchen sponge that lives under the sea with his friends would become one of the most wildly popular cartoons in years? While that is strange, it's not nearly as strange as SpongeBob SquarePants himself. And in this board game, the strangeness and the fun continue. The object is to help SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, and Squidward collect as many Krabby Patties as they can and avoid the nefarious Plankton on their way to the treasure chest. As the title indicates, the game is big (there's a 26-by-36 inch game board and 44 Colorforms pieces) and easy (it's designed for preschoolers just learning how to play games). Fundamentally flawed...
Our two kids (5 and 3 yrs old) love Spongebob Squarepants and his gang, but this game is too flawed even for them. In addition to the previous comments about lack of durability and the soundness of the design, the rules make absolutely no sense. Player can either choose to pass the finish line OR go backwards and collect more Krabby Patties (making the game theoretically unending). This is just the most glaring problem, and there are a few others. Given the popularity of the T.V. show, the game maker can charge premium price for this poorly thought out game and apparently get away with it. Too bad they chose to cash in rather than deliver. Save your money and buy another copy of Candyland.

We love Spongebob, but disappointing game!
We got this game for our little 3 year old Spongebob fan, who also LOVES board games, but I'm considering getting rid of it already to make room for a better game. The redeeming quality is that it's good for adding/taking away concepts, as the players add Krabby Patties or take some away depending on where they land. And it's a cute concept, the way they incorporate the personalities of the characters. Unfortunately, this is a poorly designed game which takes away from the fun. The main problem is that the board is just a folded up plastic sheet, and it just won't lie flat. So the oversized characters won't stand up on the game spaces. Also, the board is huge, and my little 3 year old can't reach across it to move her character around. I can barely reach across, it's about 4 feet by 3 feet. Also, the colorforms idea is cute, but they just don't stick very well, so they are continually falling off of our cards. We've only played it a handful of times, I can only imagine the pieces getting worse as time goes on. And finally, the actual game itself is just, well, boring. I know a 3-6 year old game is not supposed to be too complicated with strategies, but this one is just uneventful. You just move a few spaces until you get to one of the character's homes, and there you gain or lose Krabby Patties. Because you can move in any direction, we just always go towards the houses where you gain patties, and it's not too thrilling. This is my first review here, I just felt compelled to tell prospective buyers about it. I'd recommend any of the little Fisher Price games, like the Ice Cream Game or the Winnie the Pooh Honey Pot games, they are well executed, inexpensive, and lots of fun. ... Read more

Really reallly good for spongebob lovers!
Though this game's graphics arn't great the game itself makes up for it.This keeps my child busy for hours. It's also a perfect level of diffuculty. Not super hard not super easy. The game is a lot of fun. BUY THIS GAME! The codes are long but take no time put in because the letters put close together on the screen.

Bad Game, Too Easy!!!!!!
This game was a very big disappointment. It's not that it wasn't fun. It was fun. The problem is that it was too easy. I finished the whole game in four hours. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. The next time you play, it's exactly the same. The stuff is all hidden in the same places and the exact things happen in the exact way. There is only one level, it doesn't get harder each time you play. Take my advice and don't buy this game! Watch a Spongebob cartoon instead.

Great fun
In 30 words or less...great fun for my son and I to play while on vacation. He liked the graphics, I liked the ease of play.

I got this game on Monday the 21st of this year (2003)!!!!! I almost beat it on that day but I had to go to bed!!!! So the next day I played the rest of it and it took me like 47 mins. that day so in total that's about 7,8 or 9 hrs. and 47 mins.!!!!! It was like a peice of junk!!!!! And there's no way to make it harder!!!! Now don't take me wrong I'm a huge fan of Spongebob but I think they could make this game alot harder!!!!! (And I'm not with an adult so nobodys helping me with this review!!!) And I don't believe anybody that says it's to hard!!!!! So, Thank you. And if you survive please come again. Good-bye!!!!

short and not all that sweet
Well, let me start out the review by revealing that I'm one of the many twenty-something year old SpongeBob fans out there. So when I saw there was a SpongeBob game for Gameboy Color, I just had to check it out. What followed was almost a throwback to the old NES days of mediocre 1-hour games that dragged things out through mundane repetition and frustrating difficulty.

On the good side, the graphics are colorful and do a decent job of representing the look of the show. You also get to talk to various characters from the show (although the extent of the conversation is usually just a one-sentence comment). Unfortunately, the decent job of creating a SpongeBob look/feel is about the only good thing THQ managed to pull off here.

The gameplay is..well..rather poor. It boils down to standard platform gaming with fairly stiff controls. Usually, the levels scroll upwards or to the right, leaving you to jump from platform to platform while dodging and/or attacking enemies until you simply reach the end of the level. Platform jumping can be a nightmare as the screen will often scroll past moving platforms in mid-jump, leaving you trying to blindly guess where the platform is so you can attempt to land on it. Fighting enemies isn't much better. Despite several different weapons, some enemies are hard to kill (often due to sluggish controls), and getting hit is often unavoidable (usually knocking you off a platform and sending you hurling back to the bottom of the level so you get to experience the dull repetition of ascending the whole area over again). You can also only get hit twice, meaning you'll find yourself dying often despite the plentiful supply of healing items (extra pants) found in each level. In short, the areas themselves are boring and repetitive, the gameplay is frustrating, and you're usually forced to play the levels again and again until you manage to survive. Of course, there are a few bosses thrown into the mix, but they aren't exactly noteworthy and do little to add value to the gameplay.

So why did they make game so tough and frustrating? Well, it appears to be an attempt to drag out what is actually a rather short game. I'd say there are only about half a dozen short levels (hard to count since everything is sort of connected as one area), which probably took me somewhere between 1 and 2 hours to complete even with all of the repetition.

Well, the bottom line is that SpongeBob fans might want to cautiously check it out, but they shouldn't expect too much. Younger gamers will probably find the game too repetitive, difficult, and frustrating to hold their attention. Older gamers will probably find it dull, repetitive, frustrating, and short. Overall, the game does an extremely poor job of capturing the fun that most fans would expect from the SpongeBob license. ... Read more

Cruelty to animals
This is just a horrible horrible thing to keep a living creature in. It's the equivelant of YOU living in a suitcase! Not very fair, don't waste your money or your pet's life. Spend a little extra and get him at LEAST a 5gal tank.

Bettas do NOT like little tanks
How would you like to be kept in a glass coffin with people staring at you? Whoever said that bettas LIKE being kept in tiny spaces was clearly wrong. I mean I haven't actually talked to a betta but if you put them in a REAL fish tank they swim back and forth and dont' just sit on the bottom of the tank. The only reason they do that is because they are unhappy. I'm so tired of people using fish as shoes, purses, and other such decorations. These are little lives we're dealing with....think about it!

Please do your research before purchasing ANY tank!
Anyone considering a fish for a pet should do their research. This is NOT the recommended condition for any size fish. Tanks this size are too vulnerable to temperture fluctations that will cause illness and stress in even the heartiest of fish. There is no filtration so water changes would need to be done daily. Plus, most fish enjoy a plant or two.. there would be NO space for swimming if one was added! Contrary to what others on here are saying, bettas do best in at least 1-2 gallons or more, and yes, they can be tankmates in much larger aquariums with no problems.

For only a few dollars nmore than this, you can purchase a filtered 2 gallon kit at any pet sore chain and even in some department stores. If your children must have a Spongebob theme, there is a great 1.8 gallon kit much more suitable or they can purchased the themed decorations for a larger tank.

I encourage anyone considering fish to put the same thought and consideraton into caring for them that you would for a dog or cat.

Cute, but not healthy for a betta
While this is no doubt a cute item at first glance, and knowing how many children adore Sponge Bob, they would no doubt love this tank -- but from someone who owns multiple bettas, and also from someone who learned a long time ago the hard way; this isn't a good home for any fish, especially bettas. I am sure the manufacturer of this product, while obviously lacking knowledge of bettas, had nothing but good intentions at heart, but a tank this tiny isn't healthy for a betta. The small amount of water allows deadly levels of ammonia (from waste and uneaten food) to build up, and unless you change the water in this tank -daily-, without fail, your child's beloved betta can fall victim to sundry diseases, and sadly die. Rice paddies are far larger than most pet stores lead people to believe, and bettas were not meant to spend their -entire- life in a tiny bit of water.

Please, if you wish for your kids to have a betta they can care for, and learn from, please first research the fish, and buy an aquarium of at least two gallons. Your betta will be happier, healthier, live longer, and you'll not have to explain to your kids why Mr. Betta kicked the bucket. Fish keeping is a truly rewarding, fun, and educational hobby, but I do encourage people to do the necessary research first. It will save you many headaches in the end, and be far more enjoyable for both you, your kids, and your new betta.

hi there i have been a betta breeder for awile now and have learnt that they need more room then that and better care and that pet shops showing cruelty to them are showing other people how to do the same but yeah it is a great starter fish if you show your kid's how the proper way is to care for them and do your reseach but i am not in any way trying to condem this product or the people that make it i am just offering constructive crittisisom ... The funnest game I've ever played
This game is the funnest game I've ever played! I did beat it 3 times, but I play it over & over again. I would recomend it for a beginners game, The graphics are great, the story lines good, and its funny. You have to get a sandwich for super heroes and get coins to buy a kelp bar. You have to fight giant mother jellyfish and Planktins giant steal shark and more.

GREAT, HARD, SHORT
I really liked this game. Well obviously because I luv SpongeBob. But besides that. The sound is kinda annoying, the graphics are awesome, and it's funny! It's pretty tough tho. I died ALOT! The 1st boss is hard, but the others are easy. Really weird too. The only problem is this game is too short, I mean, I beat it in 3 hours. But I like to play it again & again. Buy this as a intermiediate game. Kinda like ur 3rd or 4th. It's a game I guarentee you'll luv.

This game was fun but then I beat it in a few hours. It very easy, well for me it is. I think about [$] is alot for this game. There are 20 levels but each one takes about a few minutes I wouln't suggest anyone to buy it. If you really want to play it you should rent it.

Great game, too easy
I'm not much of a gamer myself, but I recieved a GBA for my birthday and decided to get a game about my favorite TV show. I figured this game would be pretty easy, but not as easy as it was. I beat the game in about 2 days, and I really didn't play it much. I loved the game, especially the great background music, but if one is much of a gamer, this will be WAY to easy. Useless light
This light is beyond useless - poor sponge bob is holding a flashlight that points to the sky - it doesn't hit the screen at all and cannot be redirected. He holds a ball that points at the screen that shines a pinpoint of light on the screen. Sadly, the screen is more visible without the light. Save your $$$ and keep away from this product. ... Sponge-o-rific
this is an great phone for a kid 7-14. it is a flip phone shaped ljike spongebob. the onle weaird this is that there is an on of switch.

It works really well
I was up at my cousins house and she had one so I thought i would check it out. It's really a cool phone. When you open it, it looks like the inside of spongbob! You listen thru his brain and talk thru his pants. The numbers are on the back along with the on button (which I found was odd that you had to turn it on with a button.)
