Durability Issues
I've had this carrier for about 1.5 years or so. I've never had any serious problems while carrying up to two mountain bikes, aside from some scratching on both the bikes and car that can be expected when strapping something to your sedan's trunk and driving 65+ MPH down the freeway for extended periods of time.

The reason why I have rated the durability to low is that even though I'm conservative with my usage, the driver's side arm has been bent down. This occurred when I used it to transfer three bikes (1 light aluminum Mountain Bike, 1 heavy MB, and one run of the mill 10 speed street bike) from Milwaukee to Chicago (80 -90 miles). By the time I had gotten home, the arm had been bent downwards towards the pavement, and it has been getting worse since.

So in conclusion, for the price this is a good buy for someone who wants to get his or her feet wet in bicycling. I would not recommend this product for serious enthusiast. I've developed a few tips to live with this carrier:

1. Use additional ropes to secure the bikes. If you only use the safety strap provided, the bikes start to do scary things at 45+ MPH.

2. Have fold down seats. If you don't, you will need to remove the bikes to access the trunk. A hitch-mounted carrier can remedy this.

3. Check the straps securing the carrier to the trunk every time you stop. They have a tendency to loosen while driving.

4. Drive a "mature" car. This is not something you want to try with your brand new car with its brand new paint job. I've never had to serious of a scratch, but think about what you are doing to your car; strapping a heavy weight onto your car's trunk that steadies itself on legs that push against the trunk.

5. Remember Physics class; strap the heavier bikes closer to the trunk and the lighter bikes towards the end of the arms. If you place the heavy bike towards the ends, it will generate more force on the joints than if it were closer to the trunk.

HORRIBLE
Don't buy this! Not only did it scratch up my truck, it would not stay in place and the strap that holds your bike "securely" broke and left my bike mangaled on the freeway.

Do Not Buy!!!
Within one use, it scratched my trunk and would not stay in place. The directions are very confusing, using pictures instead of explanations. Horrible! Do not buy this bike rack. It will be a waste of your money.

Worst bike rack ever
I would love to return this cuz it will not stay securly on my trunk. I have a 2000 Grand AM and the clips that hold it in place on the sides do not hold it at all. I would return it but as soon as u use it once, your sprockets will scratch it up. Don't buy this. Look for a bike rack called The Bones. Its the best. ... Read more
