Editorial Review

We thought this was the coolest of the three Batman Deluxe Figures. Tech Armor Batman wears graphite colored armor adorned with a silvery green breast plate and shin guards. He's articulated at the forearms, wrists, waist, knees, legs, and neck. He's got an arsenal of weaponry including a laser cannon, claw arm, disc launcher and disc missile. The claw arm, which snaps tightly shut, is attached to a big mechanical-looking arm that branches from one of Batman's shoulders; you can also swap out the claw for the laser cannon. On the other side, the disc launcher clips on to his forearm, ready to fire a green disc-shaped missile with the Batman emblem cut out of it. He's got a stern look on his well-sculpted face, under the standard-issue bat mask with very pointy ears. His cape is cloth and hangs a little weakly off his back. As with the other two deluxe figures, we found the accessories a little hard to use; there are no instructions, and other than the pictures on the packaging, no guidance as how to use or attach the weaponry. --Megan Sullivan ... Dark Knight with all the trimmings.
This is another one of mattel's repaints and hence Batman variations. But unlike several of the other figures, this one actually works for me. It shows Batman as a futuristic knight with a bunch of techno accessories. The color scheme also works great. One downside about the accessories, as with all mattel figures ther doesn't seem to be any instructions on how to place them on the figure save for the picture on the back of the box. And since, this one has by far the most accessories it gets a little confusing for kids (some adults also). All in all, the good outweighs the confusing therefore it's a good buy. ... Read more

Yanks - Sox rivalry, it doesnt get better than this!
This is an awesome collectors item for a yankee or red sox fan. Youve got Jeter a guy who has won 4 WS rings in 8 years in the Bigs and Nomar who is one of the top 3 SS's in the game, and is a great player all around also. On top of that its the YANKEES vs REDSOX!! Must have for any Jeter or No-Mah fan. Very nice mcfarlane piece.

Nomar tries to take Jeter out with a wicked hard slide
Once thing the Alex Rodriguez deal did was to make the debate as to who is the best shortstop in baseball still playing the position of shortstop relatively simple (that debate is worthy of another star in the educational value rating). Here we have the two prime contenders, Nomar Garciaparra of the Boston Red Sex sliding into second base in an attempt to break up a double-play, but Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees has already fired the ball off to first base. Come to think of these figures also can be considered educational because Nomar is showing perfect form on the slide and Jeter is doing likewise on the throw to first.

Of course the question is whether Yankee fans will be able to tolerate having a figure of Nomar (he is clearly out already, which should make it more palatable) or that BoSox fans can endure having Jeter in the house (he finally got his batting average over .200, so there really would not be a debate except that Garciaparra has not played a game yet this year, just another ironic aspect to the big debate). The key details on this pair of 6" figures this time is actually the base, where Nomar's slide has smoothed out the dirt behind him and already thrown dirt on the first base side of the second base bag. McFarlane usually manages to come up with some nice details on these figures, which set the standard for action figures, even if they are only movie characters and not sports stars.

These are actually one of two McFarlane Toys figures for both players to come up this year. The Nomar Garciaparra 2 figure came out with McFarlane's MLB Series 9 and the Derek Jeter 2 figure will be part of MLB Series 10. The second 2-Pack has Todd Helton holding Sammy Sosa at first. It will be interesting to see see what other combinations they can come up with in this format: Mike Piazza getting reading to tag Roger Clemens at the plate, Ichiro beating the throw to Jason Giambi at first, Chipper Jones letting Andruw Jones catch the ball in left center, Alex Rodriguez at bat with Ivan Rodriguez catching, etc. There could be some interesting possibilities with this format.

We can also look forward to the first series in the Cooperstown Collection this summer, which will have living Hall of Fame members Yogi Berra, Bob Gibson, Reggie Jackson, Brooks Robinson, Nolan Ryan, and Tom Seaver. There will also be 12" figures of Ryan and Sammy Sosa around World Series time as McFarlane Toys continues to expand its sports figure lines. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars JLU
This is a great value for 3 figures in one package for a low price as compared to buying them separately. I like the more posable Flash because you can make him look like he's really running. The details on all of the figures resemble the cartoon very well. My only complaint is that Dr. Fate is a little shorter than the other two figures ( and most of my other JL figures in fact, and it doesn't stand on its own that great unless you bend him backwards. Green Arrow and Flash support themselves very well. I wish some accessories were included like GA's bow or the accessory that comes with the single Dr. Fate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Justice League toys
This figure three-pack is a very good buy. First, let's talk about Dr.Fate. The detail on Dr. Fate is amazing; his helmet and cape glitter when you hold them up to the light; the plastic he's made out of is high quality; the paint detail on his body and arms is superb; he has five points of articulation; and his arms and legs are tight but not so much so that you can't play with him. Dr. Fate is a really great figure and worth the money. Next up is Green Arrow.Green Arrow is also a great figure with five points of articulation, a very detailed body and arrow pack, and is very durable. My only complaint with Green Arrow is that he doesn't come with a bow.Bummer, but overall he is a great figure too.Last but not least is the Flash; now this toy they shouldn't have bothered packing with Dr. Fate and Green Arrow.Flash is AWFUL; unlike Green Arrow and Dr. Fate, he looks and feels like cheap plastic, his legs move from side to side (not a special feature) and feel like their going to fall off any minute, his arms are tough to move and forget about his head.Flash comes with 10 points of articulation and is a disappointment. However, overall I recommend you buy this three pack just for Green Arrow and Dr. Fate.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another good set
My four-year-old eats and breathes the Justice League, so this will be a big hit at Christmas.I'm glad they are starting to produce some of the supporting characters.I realize that these are bundled action figures, so they won't have lots of accesories, but they packed Green Arrow with no bow. It's a pretty crucial piece of equipment for him; I wish they'd thrown it in.That's my only complaint. They look great otherwise. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars its not a toy,its a miniture mike tyson!
When I got this thing,it was tough to get it out of the box,I thinkI may have even broke it a little while opening it.
the badness didn't stop there, the thing is offensive!
I pressed the button and it said "put down my cookies, villian!"
I was suprised it said that, and then it grew arms and legs and beat up my 4 children.
then it strangled my dog and kicked me 7 times.
I called the police and they thought I was joking so now I'm stuck with this "toy" and I caged it so it wouldn't kill anymore of my kids!
don't buy it!

1-0 out of 5 stars No judgement!!!
When my son got this toy (he is 10), he thought it would have 2 lights in judgement mode: one being guilty and one being innocent. Well ,it didn't! All it does is it has a voice that says judgement time. I do not recommend this toy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Morpher
This is one of the first morphers that used a great durable material and it's really close to the one in the show.

The Delta morpher comes in 2 modes (Change Mode) and (Judgement Mode) and 2 buttons.

As pictured, when the large black button is moved all the way to the top (Change Mode) and the grey button on the top of the morpher is pressed the flap door opens, they have the "SPD" Badge and on the morpher and there is a number pad on the bottom flap.

When the large button is moved all the way to the bottom (judgement Mode) and the grey button is pressed you get a different setting like pictured above.

The morpher also comes with a small clip that you can easily slide on to the back of the morpher to hook onto your cloths.

It's really fun and I believe it's worth every penny of $14.92 CAD that I spent on this morpher.

This is how I understand this new morpher to work as, in the show they use the morpher in a crime to judge an alien or human if they are guilty or innocent of their actions. They also use it as a normal cell phone and a police badge. And of course to change into rangers.

It's a bit of a change from past "Phone" or "wrist" morphers but it is really good and you will like it, at least I did.

As all morphers in the past have, this morpher uses AAA batteries.

5-0 out of 5 stars SPD EMERGENCY
THIS TOY HAS JUDGEMENT MODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the japanese DEKARANGER morpher is still better. it has a 3rd mode: liscence mode!it also comes with cards. the DELTA morpher fused the liscence mode with the phone mode... ... Read more

very fun
This toy is really fun. first it comes with this ooze stuff that doesnt stain the carpet and doesnt ruin the figures or play set. It may be a little frustrating putting it togeather but the instructions were very deatailed. Heres a tip: dont lose the pieces or else will not be able to use it. put it togeather in a wide open space so you can always find the pieces.
I had no trouble with the pieces togeather (maybe the other review people had a deffective set lol)

Anyway i would reccommned this toy to your kids. it is defidently worth the money !

oh yeah and one more thing about the ooze stuff is that you should always keep in in the plastic barrel that it comes in and not on the floor. or else you will have alot of stuff sticking to it like i do.

Disappointed!
My son received this for Christmas. He got frustrated quickly trying to put it together, and it took the adults several hours to assemble, then broke apart the minute we picked it up to move it. After many attempts to put it together and keep it that way, the pieces now sit in a toybox, forgotten. He likes the little turtle characters and the fighting platform, but the lair itself is a waste of time & money.

I really enjoy this toy!
I love this toy! being a big fan of the Ninja Turtles, I enjoyed playing with the characters and making my own adventures. Two things I like about this set is that it comes with a miniature version of the Sewer Slider, the Ninja Turtles Go-Kart, and some Amazing Mutagen Sewer Sludge that does not stick to the set, making it possible to dump it on the Shredder and his Foot Soldiers without a sticky mess! I would recommend this set and the two other Ninja Turtle Mega Bloks sets to any Ninja Turtle Fan! This set only took me about an hour to complete, but I have been building with Legos and Mega Bloks for many years, so it might take other people longer to complete. The only problem I found with it was I had a hard time trying to make the couch stick to the set, but otherwise it is a very fun and easy set!

Awesome toy
My 11yr old son loves this toy. I was impressed with details on the lair and the number of figures that are included for the price. We have left it assembled and haven't had any problems it coming apart. It's one of his favorites.

A zillion itty-bitty pieces
This sucker took me 2 hours to put together...it comes with a ton of itty bitty pieces, to make a 2-story building, with a street on top of it. We're talking lots of the 2-dot legos here. Even the tv set has about 14 pieces, as does the couch! Needless to say, I'm not tossing this thing back into the general lego pile. It does have a cute car, and little weapons, and 1-inch figures, and my kid thought the ooze was super cool...for about 15 minutes on Christmas morning. I don't know why, but I got 4 turtle-mainiacs (ages 5-8) running through the house, and this thing just sits there. The Battle Shell Mobile, which holds 4 of the 5-inch figures, and shoots missiles, is a much better turtle toy. ... Read more

I don't recommend buying this
The 9 piece set was disappointing when i first got it and saw it up close. I did not know that the action figures were going to be that small. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, etc. are a little taller than 2 inches while the hobbits are about 1.5 inches tall. Well that wouldn't have bothered me that much if the painting on the faces of the figures was well done but it wasn't. Half of Frodo's face looks disfigured and he and the rest of the figures are not very bendable or posable.
Save your money for something better and don't buy this. I'm probably going to return mine.
Well i hope this review helps someone out.

Lord Of The Money Thieves
My son's action figure fell apart after 2 days. He did not play rough with it or drop it or anything. I resent this toy.

The Fellowship of the Ring (with Bill the pony ) 10 set
This is such a great set that any Lord of the Rings fan should purchase it. It has ten figures with many weapons. These figures include Gandalf the Grey, Frodo Baggins, Boromier, Merry, Pippin, Gimli, Sam, Legolas, Aragon, and Bill the Pony. They all come with their weapons and can be removed off their stands. The stands fit together to show how they travel. Some of their weapons are Aragons' sword,Legolas and his elven knifes, Frodos' sword (named sting), and Gimli with his double bladed axe. The figures are very detailed with their cloaks (that are not able to be taken off them) and Aragon and Sam have luggage on their cloakes. Bill carries much of the fellowships luggage. There are only two small things that I don't like. One of them is Legolas has deadly accuracy with his elven bow but in this set it is slung over his shoulder and cannot be removed. The other thing is that Sam has his hobbit sword but cannot be put in his hand. But everthing else is just fine. It is one of the best set that I have seen. Like I said before, any Lord of the Rings fan should by this right now!

It even has Bill, what more do you need to know?
This is a great item and a 'must get' for any LOTR fan. I just ordered my second one. I have only ever seen these offered on 2 websites and the other one is sold out. As far as I know you can only get it here.

I have many LOTR items but this was my first AOME item. I have to say I am very impressed. They went to great lengths to get details right, like what Aragorn, Sam, and Bill are carrying. As much as could be expected they tried to make the characters look like the actors, but in a more important sense Play Along was able to capture the Fellowship embarking on their quest. Such a wonderful moment in the imaginations of I am sure each of us.

I do have one caveat. There are MANY very small items. I would not give this set to anyone under 5 as is the recommendation under any circumstances nor would I let them around it. As stated in the excellent review below, the arms are all molded on so if you did have very young people around the set I would at least take the extra set of weapons off of all of them.

Lastly it has Bill! Bill is almost impossible to find on any LOTR set or item. The wonderful sideshow item has long been sold out. It is almost worth it just having Bill. In any case, FOTR in many ways remains my favorite of the 3 movies and this will be a wonderful way to remember the book and movies. Like all things LOTR this will sell out and it is a limited edition. I'd buy one now rather than miss it later, which is going to happen, even with it being hard to find using the amazon search.

Why the 5 for education? Well the fellowship has 4 different races represented starting out, 5 or 6 if you count wizards and horses. And they all worked together. How important of a message is that?

The Nine sets out from Rivendell, to your home!
Another great set in a series that is garnering fame across the toy world, PlayAlong's Fellowship of the 9 set is a fabulous addition to their already outstanding line. These figures and bases recreate a scene from the movie, where Gandalf the Grey leads his fellowship out of Rivendell to destroy the Ring of Power. But that is just a facet of the fun. Like all of their line, these great sculpts are poseable, and come with removable weapons and acoutrement.

Again, I caution those with small children, to know your child before getting this set, as the small array of knives, swords, hat, etc. may be too small and pointed for younger hands. Also, some of the thinner items such as the swords and handles are of a stiffer plastic making them a bit fragile.

I have noted that PlayAlong must be adding to the figures poseability. Unlike their earlier versions, which have a modicum of arm and waist movement, these exceptional figures of the nine have poseable heads, arms, elbows, legs, and waists, on many.

Gandalf the Grey comes with his noble staff and pointy hat, as well as Glamdring, his sword. Merry and Pippin come with their gift of Elven swords from Aragorn. Frodo as well. Samwise Gamgee shoulders his burden of tackle and cooking pan, exquisitely sculpted onto his pack. His bastion, Bill the Pony by his side laden with provisions. Boromir strides with his shield on his back and his horn at his side, he comes with his sword. The gruff and gregarious Gimli carries a brace of axes at his waist, and comes with a doble bladed ax for his hands. The noble Aragorn shoulders a removable acoutrement of an unstrung bow, rope, closed quiver and bedroll, as well as his sword. Lastly the lithe Legolas shoulders his bow, quiver, and Elven knives, but also comes with two additional knives that can be placed in his hand.

The bases are form fit like a puzzle piece to provide an unbroken line of adventurers set out to save Middle Earth from the destruction of Sauron. For other adventures, as I have noted with the line, since the weapons are removeable, and these sculpts are nonconfrontational, the play and enjoyment is limited only by one's imagination. Take any number of the castle playsets that abound and you, your children, or your friends can create hours of humorous fun, either inspired from the films, or from your own mind.

These toys are perhaps one of the greatest lines of movie inspired toys to date. Many of us have waited a lifetime for such, and they also go well with some of the toys we may have gathering dust in the attic. I recently placed my figures next to an older larger Dragon from the Dragonheart movie line of toys, and the first thought that came to mind was.....Smaug!

You will greatly enjoy this set. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Willie Mays the "Say Hey Kid" as a San Francisco Giant
I got an autograph from Willie Mays once at a giant baseball card show and what I remember is that he had the biggest hands I have ever seen on a person I have actually met.No wonder the man caught everything that was hit his way; he probably did not actually need the glove. That is a moot point with this figure of Mays for the MLB Cooperstown Series 2 from McFarlane Toys because he is at bat somewhere on the road wearing the gray jersey of the San Francisco Giants.Of course, I was sort of hoping that would do this figure of Mays wearing the home white jersey of the New York Giants as he chased down Vic Wertz's shot into dead center at the Polo Grounds in the 1954 World Series. But there are probably copyright issues or something like that, so this is what fans of the "Say Hey Kid" get and I have a different complaint: I do not think it especially looks like Willie Mays.Very few of these McFarlane sports figures are spot on, but they are usually in the ballpark. But with this one I just do not see it in the face, although the pose certainly captures Mays breaking out of the batters box once he had driven the ball into the outfield.

With the passing of Joe DiMaggio it was Willie Mays who was the obvious choice for the title of greatest living baseball player, although cases can certainly be made for Hank Aaron and Stan Musial. But Mays excelled at all phases of the game and when you talk about somebody being a five-tool player, this is the guy who serves as the prototype. Before he entered the Hall of Fame he had amassed 3,283 hits and 600 home runs to go along with the 1951 National League Rookie of the Year award, Most Valuable Player awards in 1954 and 1965, a dozen Gold Gloves, and a record-tying 24 All-Star games (remember, they played the game twice each summer from 1959-62). Certainly few people have played the game with as much enthusiasm and skill as Willie Mays.

The rest of the MLB Cooperstown Series 2 figures are for "Babe" Ruth of the New York Yankees, Jim "Catfish" Hunter of the Oakland A's, Cal Ripken, Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles, Mike Schmidt of the Philadelphia Phillies, and Willie "Pops" Stragell of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now that there is a Willie Mays figure we should be able to look forward to figures of Willie McCovey and Juan Marachial down the road. For now you can get this Willie Mays figure by itself or as part of a set with his godson Barry Bonds, which gives you the two players currently in third and fourth place on the all-time home run list. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Matt's Review
This toy is awesome. Some of the pieces come off but I still love it. My dad said it was better than my other toys. I got this toy because I got a good grade on my report card. I got to say, I love this toy.

4-0 out of 5 stars ''Batboat or Batjet?''
I HAVE A SIX YEAR OLD SON WHO IS COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH THE SHOW THE BATMAN.HE GETS UPBETWEEN 10 AND 11 EVERY SATURDAY TO WATCH THE SHOW.HE SAW THIS ONE EPISODE WHERE BATMAN IS CHASING JOKER,BUT IT LOOKS LIKE HES IN A BOAT(BATJET).AFTER MY SON HAD SEEN THE VEHICLE HE ASKED TO GO TO TOYSRUS. WHEN WE GOT THERE ALL WE SAW WAS THE BATMOBILE,BATCAVE,AND MOTORCYCLE.MY SON WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED.BUT WHEN I WAS DOING MY CHRISTMAS SHOPPING WITH MY WIFE WE NOTICED IT ON A SHELF RIGHT NEXT TO THE BATMOBILE ALONG WITH SOME NEW FIGURES.I PICKED IT UP AND NOTICED IT SAID 3-IN-ONE BATJET.I FIGURED IT WAS A TYPO.WHEN MY SON RECIEVED IT ON CHRISTMAS DAY HE WAS VERY HAPPY.ALTHOUGH IT SAD BATJET ON THE PACKAGE HE STILL THINKS ITS A BATBOAT.IT ALSO BECOMES A CYCLE WHICH I THINK IS PRETTY COOL. I GIVE THIS PRODUCT A 4 OUT OF 5 BECAUSE MY SON ENJOYED IT AND SO DID I.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT WORTH THE PRICE PAID
My 6 year old son spent his own money on this toy (about $20).He played with it for an hour and then asked to return it.He said that it doesn't have 3 toys in one, which one is led to believe from the packaging. It should be labeled 2 in one, which would better reflect the packaging.

The wingtips fall off when snapping the motorcycle part into the flight part.It was difficult for my son to put the pieces together.

The noises are intermittent.I checked the batteries and it requires 3 of the A76 batteries (also used for hearing aids). These are very expensive.

The toy is so specific that one is required to buy the exact Batman to use it.

This was a very disappointing purchase. We do not recommend this toy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, unattractive, annoying electronics
First off, corrections to the current description here on Amazon, this toy is NOT motorized, it only has electronic sounds. Also, the photos up now show a prototype with a few different details, the actual toy has a clear canopy with tech lines sculpted in and openings above the blue intakes, the small rear fins at the top are translucent, and the bat-symbols stick out a quarter inch since one is a button.

Now, as to the review: Once again I have been duped by packaging, just like this line's Batmobile before it, I bought the 3-in-1 Batjet in part because the box art made it look nifty, but the art is far cooler than the actual toy. The gimmick here is that the main jet comes apart into 2 other pieces, a motorcycle that is the main jet's cockpit, and the, um, "rest" of the jet, the empty jet hull - this last part puts the "3" in "3-in-1 Batjet" yet doesn't actually have a task of its own so it's really just 2-in-1 with a sizeable leftover part to set aside. The bike takes a little maneuvering to lock into the jet hull, a feat which might be too difficult for little hands, but once you get the hang of it it's not too bad.

This Batjet has futuristic but unattractive lines, it's too odd with its drop-down nose, narrow wings, and empty fan in the back; the removable motorcycle part while neat in theory is too shapeless and plain even with the techie bits near the bottom and large rear wheel. The underside of the jet has 3 small hidden wheels but is otherwise just as featureless as the interior of the empty jet hull. The motorcycle has a translucent tech bit on either side near the bottom reminiscent of the line's Batmobile, and the right side is the same except that you can attach a missile-launcher to the middle screw hole (this launcher and wide electro-blade missile seem very much like a half-baked afterthought). The small front wheel at the front of the bike is all plastic, but the larger rear wheel has a rubber tire; unfortunately the bike doesn't roll very nicely at all on any surface, and is very low-slung so it can't bank for turns.

Besides the separating gimmick, there's also an electronic feature that can get really annoying after a few seconds. The problem is that while in "try-me" packaged mode the button on the side of the bike sets off the 2 sound effects, in "play" mode the sound effects are driven by an overly-sensitive motion sensor so they go off constantly and won't shut up till you flip the switch, which is inaccessable when the bike is docked in the jet hull (the try-me button no longer does anything at all in regular play mode, it should have done SOMETHING here). Did I mention it's also a bit too loud? There's a switch on the bottom of the bike which is depressed when attached to the jet that lets it know to only make the jet sound, it goes off whenever it senses the slightest motion - which quickly becomes tiresome as it's a slow flyby sound which isn't all that exciting to hear repeating over and over. When removed from the jet, the bike makes a motorcycle revving sound which is cool at first but then just repeats the second half over and over unless absolutely still, it would have been a lot more fun even if this sound was constant while the toy was in motion rather than just sounding like someone hitting the clutch over and over and over and over, ad infinitum. And as if the motion sensor setting it off all the time wasn't enough, it has a second switch when you turn the rear wheel - thank goodness for the OFF switch.

Finally, what really makes me most displeased with the 3-in-1 Batjet is that the cockpit is too narrow to accomodate the arms of any of the 4 Batman figures I have from this line except Bruce Wayne, and only when he's not wearing his gauntlets! I should have known since none of the box photos show the toy holding a figure inside. Many of my earlier complaints might have been overlooked if not for this massive misstep, it totally undermines the toy (worse even than the Batmobile's similar problem).

My advice: save your money for something more fun and less annoying than this, it's like the designers released this one too early, far too many frustrations are had here. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Baseball's reigning Iron Man fields a grounder at short
I have to say that when I heard Cal Ripken, Jr. was going to be part of McFarlane Toy's MLB Cooperstown Series 2 that I was hoping they would show him taking his famous lap around Camden Yard when he broke Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games played.Instead we have Ripken, wearing the home white jersey of the Baltimore Orioles, playing a ground ball at shortstop.Notice his technique: Ripken is going to use both hand to catch the ball when it bounces into his glove and that his eyes are on the ball. That is the key detail with this 6" figure and represents the type of solid ballplayer that Ripken was throughout his major league career. No wonder this was a guy who played with one team his 20-season entire career in a time when most other stars were always finding they could earn more money to play somewhere else.

Ripken is not yet in the Hall of Fame, but his election to Cooperstown is a foregone conclusion when he becomes eligible next year.Ripken won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1982 and was named Most Valuable Player the following season when the Orioles won the World Series and won the M.V.P. again in 1991.At the end of his career Ripken had a .276 average, 431 home runs and 1,695 runs batted in.Before Ripken All-Star shortstops were in the mold of Luis Aparicio, Bert Campaneris and Ozzie Smith. After Ripken they were power hitters like Alex Rodriguez, Nomar Garciappara, and Miguel Tejada. But of course Ripken's biggest legacy is shattering Gehrig's record for consecutive games played, breaking the hallowed mark of 2,130 games and setting a new standard of 2,632.Breaking the record in the wake of the player's strike and the cancellation of the World Series in 1994 was crucial in restoring the faith of fans in the national pastime, which is why I would have liked to have seen Ripken trotting along waving at the fans while acknowledging the emotional standing ovation he received when they stopped the game after the sixth inning when the game became official.

The rest of the MLB Cooperstown Series 2 figures are for "Catfish" Hunter of the Oakland A's, Mike Schmidt of the Philadelphia Phillies, Willie Mays playing for the San Francisco Giants, Babe Ruth of the New York Yankees, and Willie "Pops" Stargell of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now that they are doing players in (or definitely heading for) the Hall of Fame it will be interesting to see when they come up with the Lou Gehrig figure to go along with Ruth or Ripken, depending on your associations. For now the figure from Series 1 that best complements this one is obviously that of Brooks Robinson playing third base.Of course, if there is one McFarlane figure that deserves a 5-star rating for durability, Cal Ripken, Jr. would have to be the one. ...
