5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite game
This is my favorite game. The rules are easy enough so that you can learn in 5 minutes. However, the game changes as your skill level changes.

If you are young, this is an excellent mind-expanding game, plus a lot of fun.

If you aren't very good at games, this can be a good social game that is quick to learn. Just make sure you play someone at your skill level.

If you love strategy games, this game is for you. If you haven't played it since you were a kid, you probably haven't appreciated the intense strategic elements in this game. I think this game coined the phrase "A minute to learn, a lifetime to master." It is a lot of fun going through the mastery process.

The quality is not as good as I remember it as a kid, but the board will hold together even though the green felt will wear quickly.

And, as a trivia note, Othello is the brand name of the generic game of Reversi. Reversi is available for free at many online gaming sites.

In simplicity can complexity be found
Related to the ancient Japanese game "Go", and seen online in various versions (e.g., Reversi), Othello is very simple to learn and, when played against a partner of equal skill, it can become a wonderful test of simple logic and strategy. When played between players of differing skill levels, the less-experienced player can lear and catch up quickly. For players who need excitement, the game can wear thin after a while, as much of the action occurs in theminds of the participants. The pieces are quite durable, but the game-board surface wears out with frequent use.

Positively Addictive!
I've seen this game often in the stores but passed it up in favor of the flashier games with the namebrand attached.

We are gamehounds and I have so many games it was getting harder to find games we DIDN'T have! Enter: Othello. What a fabulous game!

My daughter (she's 7) picked up how to play very quickly. This is a game of strategy, not chance. In that aspect it is much more educational than so many other games out there which rely on chance and sometimes leave kids with "poor gamemanship" attitudes. I really found myself thinking hard after every move my daughter made. Now that is a GREAT game! Challenging on all levels.

This is also an excellent game for math skills. I highly recommend this game.

Classic
The best games are usually the most simple. This game is simple, but that doesn't mean it's not challenging or fun.

It's a good child/adult game, and I'd highly recommend this over some of the "gimmikicy" games out there. It can be played over and over with a lot of different variations on the outcome, and while a good player can win consistantly, like many decent games that don't rely on chance, this game can be played to ties or near ties if both people understand it. I think that makes it a better game.

It's good for strengthening logical thinking.

Great Strategy Game
This is a good game for 2 people to utilize good strategy. My nephew was in a car accident, and they used this game for rehabilitation to help him use his mind. He came to visit us from Texas, and we had an old game from years ago. He asked us to wrap it up for him, because he has been unable to buy it anywhere! I don't know why, this game seems like it should be one of the standard type games. ... Read more

I love this deck its loads and loads of cool! Iwoult give away a thing. Check it out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Put : Amazing
The following review expresses my opinions towards this yugioh product, so the review is what I see in this deck. This deck is absolutely incredible! In my opinion, it is a lot better than Dragon's Roar. Zombie Madness contains some of the best yugioh cards in the game, and will greatly improve anyone's deck. The Pyramid Turtles combo with Vampire Lord, and Ryu Kokki. I would suggest not running Vampire Genesis because of the fact you need to have Vampire Lord on the field, but if you want to, make sure to run three Pyramid Turtles. Book of Life is an awesome card for Zombies in this deck. If Vampire Lord ever gets attacked, or Ryu Kokki gets destroyed, Book of Life can bring those annoying pests back from the Graveyard, and then you can remove an opponent's monster from play! Now Vampire Lord, he is incredible! If your opponent destroys him without attacking him, on your next turn, he just comes right back. An additional effect of Vampire Lord's is that if he inflicts battle damage to your opponents life points, you get to choose if your opponent takes a monster, magic, or trap card out of their deck (my suggestion is to take out traps, then magic, then monsters). Your side of the field gets swarmed (filled up with a lot of monsters) very fast. This is awesome because then your opponent has little to no chance of winning when this happens. With the Ban List being updated on April 1st, you could then run two copies of Vampire Lord. [...] This deck is good against the popular Warrior Decks, and Spellcaster decks because of Ryu Kokki. All in all, this deck will greatly improve anyone's deck, not just Zombie Decks. Hopefully this guide made you want to build a Zombie Deck, because Zombie Decks are on the top tier.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!
This deck is very powerful, with good cards to back up your Zombies like "Compulsory Evacuation Device", "Torrental Tribute", and "Call of the Mummy". It involves much more stratgey than Dragons Roar, so if you are great at using goodstrategy pre-made decks, you should get this deck.

Cards in this Deck:

Normal monster:

Master Kyonshee
4 stars,ATK/1750 DEF/1000

Effect monsters:

Dark Dust Spirit

Ryu Kokki(2)
6 stars,ATK/2400 DEF/2000

If you get this deck you should put a Monter Reborn and a Prematur Burial in it, and they work nicely with Card of Safe Return.

P.S. The weaknes of this deck: Cards like Earthshaker.
P.S.S. This deck is better than Dragons Roar.

In Hasbro's Fishin' Around, eight colorful fish swim up, down, and around a stream, wigglingfrom side to side and opening and closing their mouths. Kids take turns picking cards and using theirdifferent-colored fishing poles to hook and catch the fish pictured on the card that they've chosen. The firstplayer to catch three, wins. Finny Fun
Far better than a cheap knock-off we had around the house, this is a game that kept the kids occupied for hours.

One part likes to fall off, but it does not matter to game play.

I love the fishing game
The above title are the words of my 3 year old neice. She loves the game - The game is colorful as well as durable. She can take out the game and set it up and even put it away all by herself. It's easy to turn on and off. I think the only drawback from having this game and it's not for the kids - it's for the adults is that there is no volume on/off or control switch to lower the volume. So this can be annoying. Other than that the game is lots of fun and she loves it.

swimming, swimming, swimming ...
This game is a hit with our 3 1/2-year-old son. He enjoys the bright colors of the fishing poles and different fish. He is able to set up the game by himself, and is able to turn the game on and off. The music is continual, no volume control, and a bit annoying (to mom and dad). He likes it, though. A simple game, not very educational, but lots of fun. The games are pretty short and quick, so it holds his attention. A cute game to have around for young children. Just make sure to keep the various pieces and cards in a zip-loc bag for easy storage. Nice game.

Cute Game
I bought this for my daughter when she turned 2. We lost the cards right away and just made up our own games with it. She also loved to just play the music and dance around.

Very fun, very noisy game

Shopping games, no matter when they're introduced to the market, all have the same objective: shop 'til you drop! This one is no different. For detractors, Mall Madness may teach and encourage over-consumption, indebtedness, and a focus on material culture at an early age (9 and up). But for those who care more about pretty ponchos than prickly politics, the game offers the same guilty pleasure that comes from excessive shopping in reality! A mall in miniature, the game's 21 by 30-inch, 3-D board and electronic console includes a food court (for which there are tokens), mall stands, an escalator, and plenty of shops, "mall money" and "cash cards" to go around. Grownups and kids (up to 4 players) who can make six purchases without too many pitfalls win the game--a claim in reality that the stores usually make.Diane Beall ... Read more

WE TURNED THE BEDROOM INTO A GALAXY
I had a lot of fun with my granchildren transforming their bedroom into a glowing galaxy. There was more than enough stars to make a bunch of constellations on their ceiling. These are easy to use and weren't messy at all. The kids love staring at the stars and pointing out the names of constellation before they go to bed at night. I was surprised when they started pointing out the real ones once we were outside one evening.
The experience really turned them on to learning about the constellations. We even ended up buying a real telescope and book about stars. What a fun way to learn for all of us. ... Read more

Now everyone can enjoy the classic game of Yahtzee in a nifty electronic version. Small enough to fit in your hand, this addictive game lets you "roll" the dice with the click of a button. Press "hold" to keep the ones you want, and then roll again. Get 5 of a kind, and you've got "Yahtzee." A row of options at the top ("3 of a kind," "small straight," etc.) is available to select preferred scoring for each round. like the original, this fun game can be a bit noisy with its sound effects and victory song, but it does include a silence feature. --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars So much fun!!!
The display graphics for this game are top notch. Very easy to read and to play. It is EXACTLY like real Yahtzee but without worrying about keeping score. The unit also tells you how much your score would be for each requirement. It's so much fun, even my airline pilot husband couldn't put it down! I would like it to have a case of some kind. I have a feeling it may not take the bumps and bruises of travel very well. I'll find out soon. Worth the price!

Great Travel Buddy
This game is great. It is all the fun of Yahtzee, in your hand. All of the same rules apply and all of the objectives are the same. The objective of the game is to save the dice to get a full house or a 4 of a kind to name a few. The set up and buttons are very clear. You could learn without the instructions. There is a handy dandy point sheet on the back of the game that tells you all of the objectives and how many points they are worth. This game is small so it is perfect for a long car ride, gym or can fit in your pocket for when ever you have some free time. It is worth it.

What A Game!!
What a great game for a great price. I found myself playing this for hours when I first got it and continue to play it all the time. It is a terrific little game and will keep you occupied on those long trips and periods of boredom (LOL.) It is easy to use and has a silent mode on it. My only minor complaint is that the sound is too loud and therefore I usually play the game muted. I wish there was more than one level of sound. But I guess if that is my only complaint (...) I really shouldn't be complaining at all. Get this game, you won't be sorry! : )

Ever yell Yahtzee on a crowded plane?
My grandmother gave this to me for a Christmas gift, and it's quite addictive. The game plays just like Yahtzee and is very easy to learn. It's very durable, and turns itself off after a short time of inactivity, to conserve the battery. I did manage to rack a score of 526, to which my grandmother claimed she got over six hundred, to which I said she was a lying sack. (I was just teasing her, as I know she is a very honest woman and I am sure she got me the game after she got over 600 points on her game just to watch me try and beat her score, knowing I probably wouldn't.)

Anyway, a couple of nice features is the game displays the score, if any, of the current dice configuration as you move across the screen to decide where to best put your roll total. The game also allows you to turn the sound off as the noise of the electronic dice 'rolling' does become annoying after awhile. And the game will save the highest score in memory for as long as the single AAA battery lasts.

Favorite airplane entertainment
I've had my handheld Yahtzee game for years and it still works great. I've never had to replace the batteries. You can play this game like a zombie for hours and before you know it you're at your destination! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Arguably one of the best board games of all time...
Over the years, my love for games has changed considerably. As a young child, I loved to play Uncle Wiggely or Candyland. As I got older I began to play such classics as Monopoly, Risk, and Stratego. Of all three, I'd have to say that Stratego is my favorite. Of the three, Stratego really has no major, underlying theme, such as the Capitalism and Greed of Monopoly, or the Imperialism and Domination of Risk. However, Stratego is definitely the most fun of the three. Stratego brings in that element of strategy that Monoply doesn't have, and that Risk uses to too many extremes. Stratego isn't a game that's going to bring up verbal threats between friends like the other two games will. Rather, Stratego is more like Chess. You have to be calculating and calm never taking off your "poker face" for more then a minute. Stratego is also a game that requires a very quick mind. You have to make sure you're moving the right piece, and you have to make sure that you've set up your pieces well enough so that your opponent cannot capture your flag.

You may have noticed that I only gave this version of Stratego 4 stars in the durability category. The reason for that is the fact that this new version has stickers that you must put on the pieces in order to identify them. This is fine, and it looks alot nicer then the original; however, over time these stickers begin to peel off, and it becomes much harder to mark the new ones without making them look stupid by using a Sharpie pen to mark on it with a number. A quick word to any players used to playing the original version. The new version uses the number system backwards; that is, while the highest number used to be the weakest piece (the scout), now the highest number represents the strongest piece (the Field Marshall.) Rating: 5 Stars

phenominal
Stratego is an awesome game it's a lot of fun and very intense i normally lose but i still have a lot of fun

Like chess but in secret
What I like about this game is that it's got the same kind of strategy and logical thinking that chess takes, but adds an unpredictable dimension by allowing the players to set up their pieces differently at the start of each game with the rank of pieces hidden from the opponent.

Like chess or other two player games based upon moves only, this one isn't as fun when the skill level difference is too great as there is no getting lucky with dice or other random events. However, it can still be a fun adult/child game and helps build memorization skills.

This is a fun game and I recommend it.

AWESOME!!!!!
I've loved Stratego since I was a kid....just got the classic Nostalgia version for my kids - they picked it up in a matter of minutes....if you enjoy playing strategy as opposed to luck games - this is the game for you - without a lot of complicated rules....

The greatest game ever !!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to get to know people better
My name is Rhea Zakich and I am the creator of the Ungame. In the years since I developed this effective communication tool I have heard from people all around the world whose lives have been changed by playing it. All of the questions are designed to invite players to share things about themselves that might not come up in ordinary conversation. In this day and age when it is hard to find time to build or strengthen relationships, playing the Ungame can accomplish it in a game-like setting. Young children, teens, parents, all ages seem to enjoy it. Players can only speak on their turn so there will be no interruptions, criticisms, putdowns, or challenges when one is sharing his/her answer. On the gameboard, there are spaces that allow interaction, however, it has been discovered that people are more apt to share honestly if others promise to listen and accept their answers. It's not only a super family game, it's great for parties, social events, and classrooms. Family teachers, counselors and therapists recommend it highly. I didn't intend to be a game inventor but when my children were little, I was stricken with a throat condition that caused me to lose my ability to speak. The doctor's thought it would be permanent, so I was desperate to find a way to communicate with my husband, kids and friends. I was not prepared to live as a mute. One night, after crying out to God for help, I sat at my kitchen table and began to doodle as I reflected on all of the feelings and thoughts that I would never be able to share. I began to write down questions I wished I could ask those I loved. Then I wrote questions that I wished someone would ask me and wait as I wrote my answers. (Most people did not talk to me when I couldn't speak. If they did, they often walked away while I was writing my response). I had no idea that my doodles and questions would someday become the world's most popular communication game with more than 2 million sold around the world. God answered my prayer in an amazing way. I have since regained my voice and now lead workshops on communication around the country.

Communicating without pressure
I was a teenager when my mother first learned about the Ungame and purchased it for us. Being a typical adolescent, I wasn't all that interested in communicating, but I loved to play games. From the day we bought it (it was just a small wallet with two stacks of cards then) it went everywhere with us: in the car, to restaurants, to the park, to my slumber parties... We laughed and joked and answered questions until we were too exhausted to keep our eyes open any longer. My friends adored it, my extended family loved it and I learned to answer my mother's questions.
Now that I am a mother myself, the Ungame will be a fixture in my own house. I can't imagine not having so much fun getting to know my son (and vice versa).

Ungame Is wonderful
... Ungame has been wonderful in helping my child to express her feelings, and become a more verbal person.

It's a great tool
As an elementary school counselor, I've used the ungame for the past 11 years. I've never run across a student yet who hasn't enjoyed playing the game and many of them ask to play on return visits. I've read the other reviews and was surprised to see some of the critical comments. The game isn't intended to transform a family or someone's life. It is a tool to use in a variety of situations. Students new to school, students I'm speaking with for the first time, students who tend to be competitive, students who are shy...(I could go on)....the game gets people talking. If you're looking for something fast paced, then go for Hungry Hippos or Perfection. But if you want to open lines of communication in an easy, natural way, try the Ungame. Make sure you are purchasing the game for your intended audience as there are many versions!

Healthy Fun
This is a healthy game for all ages to play and to interact with each other. It builds self esteem and helps each family member understand more about the feelings of the other players. There need to be some set rules to encourage the players to share their feeling. Such as, No one can talk except the person whose turn it is. When it is your turn, you cannot challenge what another player has shared. It is so warm and fuzzy to hear what the children and the adults are willing to open up in front of the other players. After teaching three children (ages 7, 8 and 9) how to play, I encouraged them to play with each other while I sewed nearby. It was incredible how they made sure each person was complimented on something. One child has been homeless for several years and is just now in an apartment. Her answers were a real eye-opener for the other children. They listened intently and were very supportive. It's a great game! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Read the Reviews Before You Buy!
I wish that I had read some of the reviews before I purchased this one. We had this game when I was a kid and it was one of my favorites. However, I didn't realize that they had revised the game.

I find the new format frustrating and empty. There isn't as much interaction between players in this one (others don't have to give you money when you get married, have children, etc.), except for the career spots and those detract from the game - they're pretty pointless and not true to the real world as we know it.

I have to agree with the previous reviewer who found the LIFE cards very annoying. There doesn't seem to be any hope for the underdog in this version; if you don't happen to pick a good salary, you won't win, no matter how many LIFE cards you pick up along the way.

I really wish that they had left the game the way it was! I think we'll go dig up the old one that my husband's parents have somewhere. That will be more fun!

Bottom Line: After wanting to own this game for a while, I wish I hadn't wasted my money. I'll just find an older used one. One word - disappointing.

a fantastic game
the first time i played "the game of life" i was 10.

i recomend it to all my friends and family because it is such a fun game.

I'm sorry, but the original version was MUCH more fun. This version has become too childish. Can kids not think any more or what?? Why are all the games being dumbed down in the new versions????

Dumb
I never cared for this game, I always thought it was silly and really didn't offer much in the way of strategy or skill.

I can't think of anything really good to say about it, but I know it's been around for some time, so some people must get into it. If you like strategy and logic or word games like I do, you'll probably want to pass on this one.

My ratings are for the Pre-1991 version. Buyer Beware !!
First off, my review is on the "old" Game of Life (pre 1991).
The new one is horrible, they did away with things like the "Poor Farm" and "Gambling" or playing the "Stock Market".
Also, it is missing the "Share The Wealth" cards. I love popping those on someone and forcing them to give me half of what they just collected or making them pay half of a space I land on.
As for durability, mine is an original 1960 version and the wheel spins just as smoothly as the day my parents bought it and the board still looks perfect.
I made a mistake and bought a new one for my nephew and his family. We opened the box and set it up (which was pain as apparently this must be done each time) then I saw how much it had changed. The game has been severely "polictally corrected" and doesn't teach kids a darned thing. Example: The "Superstar" could have a $100,000 salary while the "Doctor" who went to college and in debt to do it may have only a $10,000 salary. Also, you don't collect anything for having kids at the end of the game. Just LIFE tiles. Like, you get $50,000 for planting a tree. What the heck does that have to do with having kids?? ... GREAT PRODUCT!
This is a great product - my chess players DS(9); DD(13); and DH(40) are thrilled with it! We started with a real cheapie set and "graduated" to this one . . . for [this price] you cannot go wrong! Believe me . . . you get waaaaaaay more than you pay for!

Not bad
Twenty bucks for a wooden folding chess board and chessmen is not a bad deal. However, the old adage "you get what you paid for" holds true here. Craftsman quality is missing in this product. The folding chess board has a magnetic strip to keep it folded. However, the chess board when unfolded for play is a bit lopsided. The wooden chessmen are standard Staunton pieces. However, they're not crafted quality pieces but are adequate enough for play. If you wanted a similar product but of higher quality then be prepared to fork over an additional $30-40 if not more. However, if you wanted a traveling chess set but don't want to pay alot of $$$ for one and don't mind the inferior quality found in this set then this is good buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Chess Set for a Great Price
Although I would have loved to have gotten my fiancee a more articulate chess set, this gem really fit my budget. When he opened it on Xmas day, he was blown away. He really enjoyed it, especially the size. The set comes with a fairly large chessboard and the pieces are nicely sized as well.

He has enjoyed many a chess game with me and our best friends. With all the use so far it has remained in excellent condition. The magnetic closure helps to secure the pieces in the inside of the fold up board. Thus, your floor will not be littered with pieces when you pick the board up.

5-0 out of 5 stars inexpensive chess set
Should sell for less half the cost , if that. Chess pieces were not carved by any craftsman, very flimsy board . Hope it lasts a year. typical chinese craftsmanship. Throw it away and buy a new one tomorow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pavilion Chess & Checker Cabinet
This is not a "toy". This is a beautiful chess/checker board, polished and varnished oak wood. The board folds, with magnetic inserts to hold the pieces and keep it closed. The chess pieces are solid machined wood, not intricately carved, with felt on the bottoms, and certainly nicer than plastic pieces. I recognized this set when I saw the display picture; it was on a table in a millionaire's home that we were visiting last month. Now I have the same set he has. If you persist in calling this a toy, then it's a millionaire's toy and an old guy's toy -- I am past seventy. Summary: Great buy ! ... Read more

Editorial Review

That iMAgiNiff was developed by two brothers (in Australia) makes perfect sense, because this is a board game you'll want to share with family and friends. It's simple to play. A set of names is chosen, usually the name of every player plus those of several absent friends. When it's your turn, one name is selected as the subject of the question. You pick a card--one of hundreds--that poses a question and six possible answers (for example, "Imaginiff _____ were a crime. Which would he/she be?"). Read the question aloud, plugging in the subject's name. Then read out the six answers (in this case, they range from "homicide" to "indecent exposure"). Each player picks an answer to fit the subject; those who have picked the most popular answer move forward. But though you win by advancing, winning is obviously not the point: laughter and arguments are. The questions on the cards range from the ridiculous ("Imaginiff _____ were a body part.") to the provocative ("Imaginiff _____ had to decide which of the following values is most important."). The game is a fun cross between Scruples and True Colors. --Elisa Murray ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars iMAgiNiff - Find out what your friends think of you
I played iMAgiNiff last night for the first time. It was a blast. It is a great way for friends to find out what they think of each other. Many of the questions sparked lively discussions.

We had less than 8 people playing so we filled in some famous people in the extra spots. That added a cool twist to the game.

I can't wait to play with my family. But I don't think I am ready to play with the in-laws.

Great Family Game
Some games are so competitive that it spoils the fun. Not this one. It is so much fun to play that you don't really care who wins. We played with our adult children at Christmas and laughed until we cried. It is a great bonding experience!

A great game!
Imaginiff will get your mind cranking...If Fred was an animal...what would he be??? Gather round with your friends and see how well you know them...and the people you are playing with! Great for birthday parties, family gatherings, or just a friday night with the dinner gang. This game will definitely get your imagination going!

Awesome!!!
I played this game with a group of adult family members and we had a blast! It's so much fun to play and some of the choices are hilarious. It's sometimes scary how "dead-on" a question or choice might be, too. I love to play games with family and would definitely recommend this one! It's great because you can play with such a large age group...our group ranged from 18 to 55. Definitely worth picking up for the holidays!

A great bame
My family and I had a great ime playing it. My brother is 15 and usually he doesnt like being seen in public with us, but he loved this game, and when it was done, he asked to play again. when you play, you really find out who knows you the best, and at the same time, find out things about your friends and family you didnt know about:) ... If you loved Settler¿s of Catan this a ¿must¿!
Most people come to this game after they have already been introduced to the European Designer Games by Settlers of Catan. This is a different kind of game than Settlers but in some senses it shares a lot of commonalities.

The game is easy to learn for a wide audience, it is reasonably quick to play (30 - 40 minutes) and is a very "immersive" game i.e. there aren't long periods of boredom. There are elements of strategy and luck, which makes for a "fun" game experience.

This game is fun for children and adults. For children the "farmers" are a little too complex, but the game works very well without that element.

The game consists of laying tiles to build cities, roads and monasteries in the South of France. Points are gained by creating long roads, building large cities or farming multiple farms. It draws elements of building jigsaw puzzles together with a strategy game of competing for territory.
I have played this game with family members who aren't really into board games and they enjoyed it just as much as gamers.

There are many expansions to this game which add a few more dimensions as you get more advanced. There is a very high replay-ability.

I would high recommend this game to people who are bored with standard Monopoly or Cranium type board games that are popular in the US.

If you loved Settler's of Catan this a "must"!

Strategy, planning, and resource management!
This is a great game of kingdom building that is easy to learn and very fun to play. The games are relatively short (30 to 45 minutes)so it doesn't take an entire evening, either.

Players take turns drawing land tiles and placing them on the board. Tiles have various structures (e.g. roads, cities, fields) on them that need to be matched up for proper placement. You can't have a road end in an open field, it must be attached to another road.

Each player has a number of followers to dispatch throughout the kingdom. They can be placed on roads (to become thieves), cities (to become knights), monistaries (to become monks), or fields (to become farmers). Once a structure is completed (roads have two ending points or intersections, cities are completely walled in, etc.) the player scores points for his follower and may remove to follower from the board to place him on a subsequent round.

This game is a good way to learn resource management. If you place all of your followers you won't have any in reserve for a prime opportunity, should it arise later. Is it better to get quick points with roads or small cities, or try to keep extending the roads and cities for greater scores? There are many strategies to consider and options to contemplate. Yet, this game is easy to learn in a few minutes. And since the players place the board pieces there are no two game boards alike.

My friends and I have had hours of entertainment from this game. I highly recommend it!

Carcassonne - the best game in years
Carcassonne is the best strategy-based board game I've ever played. It's actually composed of about a hundred square tiles featuring roads, cities, farmland, and cloisters. Deploy your small number of settlers to take over each of these features, scoring points for their completion. Score points for your farmers and all your incomplete roads, cities, and cloisters in the end.

The game works great for two players as well as the maximum 5 players (six with the first expansion) or anywhere in between. The games are varied every time I've played (about 30-40 times so far).

This game is the most addicting game I've played since Magic: the Gathering was released 10 years ago. Try it and soon you will be scrambling to purchase the two available expansions - one with Big Settlers and new tiles and one with Builders & Traders.

The average rating for the durability is a result of the cardboard tiles. If you play a game enough times you'll likely wear out anything made of cardboard over time.

a really fun, easy game
i first played this game a few months ago. 10 minutes into the game, i was hooked! the concept is simple -- earn points by completing cities, roads, and cloisters, and deploying farmers. figuring out the best tile placement is tricky, but fun. the competition is fun, but not too intense. even my 10-year old daughter plays this, and likes it. if we want a "quick" game, we leave out the "farmer" aspect -- makes for a quicker, easier, but still very fun game. the tiles themselves are just beautiful -- the artwork is gorgeous. the player pieces are great -- wooden man figures that are a nice size -- substantial, and the fact that they are person-shaped and not just a block square, adds to the fun. i'd play this game several times a day if i could-- it really is that much fun. :) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!!
I think the game is a great value! I mean for the price you can't go wrong. At first the joystick felt a little arkward while playing pac-man, but now I'am use to it. I also would have preferred that the reset button be on the side or back of the console because I find myself hitting it by mistake. But overall... I think it's the next best thing to the original arcade version. After Pac-Man, my next favorite game is Dig Dug and playing that game just brought back a lot of memories. It seems soooo authentic!! For the price I am so impressed. I only wish that Ms. Pac Man worked as well as Pac-Man. I was about to purchase Ms. Pac Man but after reading the reviews I think I'll wait until Namco comes out with a new and improved version.

4-0 out of 5 stars 80's flashback
Wow! This is so fun! It works so well and is so easy to install. This is fun for the whole family, we all love to play the games. Graphics are good, joystick works well. It reminds me of going to arcades when I was young...

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Toy in Years
Its about time this was created, ITS the most Superb thing I have played in years.

5-0 out of 5 stars really fun, don't forget the batteries
at first i wasn't sure about buying this toy, but i did, and i have absolutely no regrets about it. it cost me about 18 bucks, and i know that i would have spent WELL over 18 bucks if i'd played these games in the arcade as many times as i've played them at home. there was one game on there i'd never heard of (bosconian), but it turned out to be the best one. the only one i don't really like is galaxian, it's kind of boring. but the rest are great. it takes 4 aa batteries, and when they start to go dead the picture gets funny. the batteries are not included so don't forget to buy them like i did. i would recommend this toy to anyone who likes video games, and some people who normally don't. i gave it a couple stars for educational because video games help hand-eye coordination, etc, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun as hell
Alot of people gave this guy bad reviews on it's shoddy quality. I don't know if I just got a good unit or not, but I've been playing this thing almost everyday since I got it a month ago and have had 0 problems. Not only have I not had to replace the batteries once (I guess these old games don't suck up much), but it's held up through my various slams and harsh playing styles. So, I guess I'd say..buy where you can return it (i.e. not on ebay), but don't hesitate purchasing it based on the bad reviews. ... Read more

Fun for Adults!
Toss Across is a classic toy. We purchased this toy because we remembered playing it when we were kids... and I think I'm enjoying it more now than I did twenty years ago. Because it's a mix of skill and luck, anybody can win (kids can beat adults), but it's still a great toy to bet on.

I only wish it held together a little better... the little plastic wedges that are used to hold the support bars tight tend to fall out pretty often (we've already lost one). However...we could always replace the whole thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Childhood memories
I am purchasing my second Toss Across...The first one was purchased in the 1970's. I loved it as a child and love it as a mother....This toy adds a physical component to the old Tic Tac Toe game, making it more challenging plus it gets kids off the couch!! Buy it for your children but be sure to play with them! ... Read more

Test your code-cracking prowess with Mastermind, "the challenging game of logic and deduction." The codemaker sets a code of four colored pegs--choosing from yellow, red, orange, blue, green, or white--and conceals it behind a flip-up shield. Your mission: replicate the code in 10 moves or fewer. With each of the codebreaker's attempts, the codemaker uses red and white key pegs to offer cryptic clues about color and position. Make the game even more difficult by using multiple pegs of the same color or by leaving one or more peg holes empty. With more than 2,000 possible code combinations, every game is guaranteed to be a brain-bender. All of Mastermind's components can be stored in the game board. Mastermind is for two players. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Classic logic game - just don't say "educational"
My son got this modern version for his ninth birthday. I was excited to play after so many years and he took to it quickly. My only complaint (and the reason for 4, not 5, fun stars) is that the rounded plastic pegs are difficult to lift out of the holes, even for kids. The problem is worse behind the flip-up screen. I still highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys logic puzzles. It has a small element of luck and a larger element of skill, and, unlike logic puzzles, allows (downside is that it requires) two players. Younger kids may become frustrated, unless they're already into chess or similar games.

I really wish I still had the Mastermind strategy book I had when I was a kid. I can't find one on Amazon or the web.

Simultaneously simple and complex--great for all ages!
We have dozens of games in our house, but this one is a favorite. My 6 year-old son picked up the rules in about 5 minutes, but continues to develop his strategy every time we play. It is simultaneously simple and complex, and a great way to get kids to employ reason and logic, while having fun. This is now one of his two favorite games (the other being Othello, which I also highly recommend). We play it often, and it is a great way to get him away from the TV so we can spend some quality time together. Sometimes I win!

I only awarded 4 stars for durability because small pieces are easily lost, as with any similar game.

A fun and intelligent game
We recently started playing this game and my 5 year old loves it. It is a simple game and one through which one can learn a lot. We played with an older set until recently when we bought the new design (featured on this page). I have several complaints about this new and improved design: It has a storage compartment, but it is not so well designed. With only half of the pieces in the storage compartment, its lid takes a while to close. The key pegs fit too tightly into the holes and the pegs are harder to put in and take out than the older (and more simple and plain) set. But, this set does come with over 100 pegs, which is very convenient.

Despite my complaints, this game is worth getting for what one gets out of it: it is not just fun--it is an intelligent game of logic and deductive reasoning.

This One Gets Played Often - By Everyone
This game is easy to learn, and keeps kids and adults entertained. It will keep the kids entertained on a rainy day, and exercise their minds more than TV. It's also something you can play with them and enjoy. It's not like some of those annoying games that have 47 pages of complex rules that no-one ever learns. At the same time it's challenging.

Put On Your Thinking Caps For This One!
"Mastermind" is a great game for those who like to use their deductive reasoning.I have the older version and it has lasted for years. It can be played by children(starting around the pre-teen age)and adults together and it's also great for just the kids or just the grownups to play on their own.

The game consists of multi-colored pegs and a board. One person arranges several pegs(which are hidden from view) in any number of color schemes. The other player has several chances to guess the pattern by arranging the pegs in different orders until he guesses the correct scheme or runs out of chances. The first player indicates how many correct colors are displayed. Using the process of elimination is the key to winning!

It's a great game to take along when traveling or visiting (much easier to pack up then a computer and video games!). The pieces are very small so I would reccommend keeping it out of reach of toddlers.

It will really make you think!(I like to see my kids thinking, it's such a rare treat!)...Have Fun...Laurie ... Read more
