5-0 out of 5 stars A great game for building many skills
I bought this game for my 2 year old son and have been very pleased. His occupational therapist introduced it to him to help him with his fine motor skills. It takes two hands to put the little coins in the slot (one to hold the coin and one to hold the barn) and a little strength to pull the lever to get the coins out. Even though he is too young to play the game, he loves to match the animals to the cards. It has been great to teach him the animal names and sounds, too. He loves to play and it will grow with his cognative abilities. We highly recommend this toy!

speech therapist recommended
My daughter, who turns 2 this july, goes to speech therapy. The therapist pulls out this game to try to get my little one to not only speak, but to put the coins in the slot (follow direction), take them out, match them up, learn animals and colors. Also to take turns. This is a Wonderful teaching game! Please note the coins a small, and could be a choking hazard. But overall I recommend this game.

Wonderful first game
This is a great first game. It is very short in duration and teaches the basics of game playing (taking your turn, wining, following rules) without being overly involved or lengthy. The bingo chip dispenser is great fun for toddlers and makes the game very enticing. I highly recommend this game! However, I think that this game is probably more appropriate for 2-4 year olds than 3-6 year olds. I've played this with several 2 years olds and they've gotten the game immediately. This was some of the best 9 dollars that I've spent and will be giving this as a gift many times.

Great game for little ones!
I would recommend this because I have a 4- and a 5-year-old. They love playing this game together and I don't even have to be there right beside them. It allows them to play together independent of me! They also really enjoy playing the game. We would purchase it again!

"I spy a spider, a baby in blue, memory games are fun to do!" If you and your kids enjoy the I Spy book series, then you'll want to play the I Spy Memory Game! It's like other memory games, except that there are a few twists such as differing backgrounds on matching cards, funny riddles, and fascinating details in the photo cards. The game can be played three different ways. The simplest version is the basic matching of memory card pairs.Kids as young as 4 can play, and no reading is required. Two slightly more complex games use the riddle cards. Instructions are also given for variations that involve playing the game as a cooperative team, playing riddle solitaire, and playing a matching game through associations with the objects on the cards. The I Spy Memory Game comes with 60 memory cards, 15 riddle cards, and an instruction booklet. --Marcie Bovetz ... Read more

Great for Families
This is a great family game. Young children can play this game as well as adults. My son who is four loves this game. It is a traditional game with a new look. Some of them are a little bit difficult in that the matches might have different backgrounds or be a silghtly different view of the same item. It makes you think.

We have enjoyed the books and now we enjoy the game. The pictures on the game look like they come right from the book.

I particularly like that this game will grow with my children. There are riddle cards that you can use in one type of game. And directions for other games as well.

Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic game with a refreshing new look.
The game of memory is a great equalizer because little children are just as apt to remember where they saw the hidden images as older children or adults. This makes it great game for the whole family to play together. The images from the "I Spy" book illustrations are bright and creative. They don't match exactly- for instance, there might be two images of cats, but borrowed from different photographs in the I Spy books. So there is a bit more visual variety to spice things up. This is a much more attractive memory game than most, and would make an ideal gift for a child or family.

Hi! My name is Martine Redman and I'm the inventor of the I Spy™ Memory Game by Briarpatch. I've given this game to a lot of kids, and it's great to hear parents report back to me that the kids play it over and over. We've won a number of awards for it, including Parents Choice Gold Seal, the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Seal, Teacher's Choice, and many more. Children learn about taking turns and matchmaking in this game as they try to make pairs of elated elephants, panting puppies, smiling suns, and other familiar objects. The 72 (cardboard) cards have lively, colorful drawings that make them easy to remember and a tray for storing them. Played alone, Original Memory is a quiet activity for developing concentration and memory. With more players, it's even more of a memory challenge to remember where the cards are that have already been turned over. And you have to wait your turn, which is sometimes harder than anything. The printed rules in the box set the tone for this child-friendly game: the youngest player always goes first. --Lynne Sampson ... Read more

This is not the "Original Memory".
I had the original Memory game. This isn't it. The play of the game is the same, but mine had really cool pictures. This has silly cartoon pictures. It's not as nice.

Classic games stand the test of time
You can't go wrong with most of the classic games & this one is no different. Great fun & makes them THINK!

My own childhood game
I had this game when I was a child and I LOVED it. I never forgot this game and now I want to share it with my own children and relive the experience again.

Simple Game/Great Test of Memory!
With 72 cards (36 pairs)I think this is a little more than most 3 year olds can remember. I suggest using only part of the cards and gradually increasing the number of cards as the child gets older--otherwise, they may become frustrated and give up. I agree with the reviewer who suggested that the cards should be laminated. I am not sure how long they will hold up if used much. The pictures are all familiar objects that preschoolers will readily identify, and it's a great game for spending time together.

"I spy with my little eye" is the chiming chorus of road tripswith kids, and also now of this game for preschoolers. It developsreading skills through colors, pictures--the high-impact compositionsof everyday stuff from the I Spy books by Jean Marzollo--andrhymes. Different games are possible with the same set of easy-to-readcards: listening, rhyming, and matching. Older kids can play with theiryounger, nonreading siblings without any rivalry. This game was given to our 3 year old as a gift and he loves it. His little sister, who is two, also loves this game. This game really helps to develop a childs ability to concentrate on visual cues. It is basically a matching game combined with a puzzle concept. There are no complex rules to learn, so within minutes of opening the box any child can begin to play and enjoy this game. As each match is made the child receives immediate reward and motivation to find a new match. Best of all is that this is a simple game with no buzzers or bells and is best played with the TV turned off. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most requested game in our household
Even the littlest one (3 years old) loves R, R, & R. He doesn't understand the "game" part, but he loves looking at the pieces, and he has figured out how the matching works.
Treating it more like a puzzle than a turn-based game makes it fun for everybody -- you spend as little or as long on it as you want, and then you come back to it later.
Our household challenge is to use all the pieces in as compact a shape as possible. My husband is obsessed with putting together a perfect rectangle. Hasn't happened yet, but he keeps trying!

5-0 out of 5 stars Educational and fun game
This game promotes many educational skills, available to use even with very young children, including matching, visual discrimination, vocabulary building, sequencing and in addition it is a fun game to play turning out different picture representation every time!

4-0 out of 5 stars For puzzle lovers
Ravensburger products are easy to love because of their high quality. These game tiles (like Ravensburger's puzzle pieces) are thick, colorful with great detail, and wipe clean when you spill on them. I enjoy puzzles and so this is a fun game for me, creating a maze of rivers, roads, and railways that begin and end at houses, bridges, towns and dams. The game can last an overly long time, so my kids don't enjoy it as much. ... Read more

Editorial Review

They say that good things come in threes, and that's definitelythe case with this high-action card game for two or more players. Likegin rummy, but more intricate and risky, Trilogy has players make sets ofthree from four different kinds of playing cards until all their cardsare gone. A three-card set is any combination of cards featuring facesthat are either all alike or all different. There are four different"suits"--symbols, numbers, colors, and shading--so three cards that areall red, all ovals, or all different shadings make a set. Play at levelone is fun but not extremely challenging; it's when you move on to MasterTrilogy that a whole new world of risk emerges. Players can steal sets, protect sets with a Hands-Off card, or use a timer to really crank up thetension. --Marianne Painter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Triology really rocks your brain
Triology is a neat game based on making sets of cards. I have played the SET Game for years and really like the challenging way Triology uses that idea. A SET is any three cards that are alike or completely different in each one of their features. In Triology you make SETS and put them down for points when it is your turn. You get to make the SETS from the cards in your hand, plus the ones you draw or from any number of the discarded cards on the table. It is a real challenge. I especially like playing the advanced level where you can 'steal' SETS from other players if you recombine their SET into 2 or 3 SETS by using cards from your hand and the cards in their SET. Really cool. Pretty deep. I love it. ... Read more

The winner of an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award, Make ItUp answers those probing questions about how something is made orwhat it's made up of. Each of the 18 sturdy cardboard story cards holdsillustrations of five or more related items, with the center itemlocated on a punch-out oval section. The game can be played alone orwith one or two others, and the goal is to match each oval tile with itsproper story card. For example, the birdhouse is matched with the bird, saw, nails and wood; the painting matches with the paint tubes, brush, palette, and blank canvas, and so on. The game comes with a ParentsGuide of brief narratives for each card, along with rules forcooperative play and for memory/matching play. Great for Nemo fans, but better for older kids
I bought this for my almost-3 year old daughter b/c she loves 'finding nemo'. The way we play memory with her is we take out about 10-12 cards and play a game with those, as obviously playing with all the cards would make the game too difficult and not enjoyable. But my main complaint about this particular version is that a lot of the cards look very similar but are subtley different. For instance, there are about 4 different variations of a Nemo card. So I would recommend this set to a slightly older child and pick a simpler set, where all of the cards are markedly different (like the Disney themed set, which we also have) for the 3 year old crowd. Otherwise, my daughter loves it as all children this age seem to love playing Memory. ... Read more

What color you going to have, Daddy?
This card game is my 4.5 year old daughter's current favorite game and has been for a couple of weeks now. She could play this many, many times a day. We'll never know how many unless she takes it upon herself to play a 1-player version -- my wife and I take turns playing with her. This game does not focus on the characters in the Dora universe; rather, you need to find objects that might appear in Dora stories (star, book, boat, flute, binoculars, maracas, etc.). Each player has their own backpack card which shows which other cards you will need to get; each different colored backpack requires a different set of items to be found. A good thing about this game is that a "hand" goes by pretty quickly, so you can play for only a short time and then your child may agree to stop. Also, it is obviously quite portable. Dora fans may be disappointed that there's no Boots, Swiper, et. al. On the other hand, your child need not be "into" Dora to appreciate the anticipation of drawing a desired card. Not highly educational although matching skills get exercised, and my daughter was motivated to learn to pronounce "binoculars" (she used to say "binocky-oars", which is neither here nor there but I could hardly leave it out). You can use a little strategy but it is mostly a game of luck. ... Read more

Go with the "Original" memory game
This is a cute idea, but frankly the pictures are far too similar for a pre-schooler just starting out. Go with the original Memory game and call it a day.

Box of Cards
This isn't a game as much as a box of picture cards. There are way too many of them to play a match game with younger children and the picture are too small and many are too similar. I had this game through three children and all we did was sort picture cards by character.

Well loved game for my girls
My older daughter received this game when she was 2 1/2. She played it all the time. Now she is 7 and her younger sister is 5 1/2. This was their favorite game, out of our whole closet full, until about a year ago. I can't even begin to count how many times we played it.They loved the matching version , but then they created their own sorting game too. Also used it as money when they played store. Although they stopped playing with it, they won't get rid of it. It is pretty durable as long as you keep it out of babies and puppies mouths.

change it up
I play this game with my 3 year-old;every time we play, we change the rules. Because there are so many cards, we'll play with just the pooh cards one game, & then we'll match any piglet to any other piglet, & then we'll match any character with a bug in it, etc. This helps her differentiate between different classifications...and she makes the rules so it allows her independence and a role in her own learning. boring for me, but it's not about me!!

2-0 out of 5 stars I miss the old memory games...
Unfortunately, the cards aren't as durable as the memory games of old. And holy man, there are a ton of cards! I'm sure that is great with smaller kids, but once they get mixed up, try to sort out a few for your young toddler just learning matching!

The problem I found was that it has too many cards for smaller children, and bigger kids aren't as interested. So this one will be put on the shelf for a while, hopefully won't spill, and will be taken out at just the right moment to hold my daughter's interest (Yeah right???) ... Read more

Our 4 year old enjoys beating us at this game!
This game is a twist on standard memory card games. There are 16 cards depicting four "surprises" (a dinosaur, a castle, a submarine and a spaceship) that are covered up. You draw a game card with a combination ( 2 dinosaurs ans a spaceship, for example) and you have to uncover the right combo. If you do, you keep the card. If not, it is the next player's turn. Simple, yet fun and different from typical matchmaking games. Our four year old loves it and beats us (even when we really aren't letting her!) Also, a game only takes about 10 minutes so you can play a quick game when you are pressed for time but your preschooler begs "Play with me!" The cards are very sturdy and I am sure they will last through many games. Highly recommend it - for your own child or as a great birthday present for your child's friends. ... Read more
