4-0 out of 5 stars Catfish Hunter back in the glory days of the Oakland A's
He was born James Augustus Hunter but Charles O. Finley, owner of the Oakland A's decided it would be more colorful to call his young right-handed pitcher "Catfish" and that is how he entered the Hall of Fame.Hunter won at least 21 games for five reasons in a row and in 1968 hurled a perfect game against a Minnesota Twins team that had Rod Carew, Harmon Killebrew, and Tony Oliva batting in a row.Hunter was the mainstay of the A's team that won three World Series in a row and picked up a Cy Young award in 1974.He then signed one of the first big-time free agent contracts ($3.75 million for five years) and finished his career with the New York Yankees at the age of 33, winning another two World Series, his career shortened by injuries.First he was diagnosed with Type I diabetes and then he developed a swollen ligament in his arm. After his retirement he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, known to everyone in and out of baseball as Lou Gehrig's disease, and died at the age of 53 in 1999.

In 1975 when Hunter hit New York City, Bob Dylan wrote the blues ditty "Catfish."In 1987 he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. His plaque at Cooperstown shows no insignia on the cap, but for this 2005 McFarlane Toys action figure Catfish is decked out in the colorful uniform of the Oakland A's of the 1970s.That means the Kelly green jersey with the yellow sweatshirt underneath to go along with the long hair (by the standards of the time, not by today's world with Johnny Damon running around in it) and the mustache that Finley paid his players to grow.I never could figure out how it was comfortable to have the index finger on your glove hand outside of the glove like this, but apparently that is the way it is done. This action figure is 6 inches tall and includes a pitcher's mound as the base.

The rest of the MLB Cooperstown Series 2 figures are for Cal Ripken, Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles, Mike Schmidt of the Philadelphia Phillies, Willie Stargell of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Willie Mays playing for the San Francisco Giants, and that Babe Ruth fellow who hit a whole lot of home runs without ever taking steroids (not to mention ever playing a major league game at night, on the West Coast, or against an African-American pitcher: no wonder baseball fans like to argue out the relative merits of old-timers versus the ballplayers of today). If you missed Series 1 then you need to track down Yogi Berra, Bob Gibson, Reggie Jackson, Brooks Robinson, Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver. It is really great that McFarlane Toys is going back to these great old school players and I eagerly await Jackie Robinson steal home. ... Beautiful looking figure!
What else can one expect from Todd McFarlane? His figures, specifically the sports line, have been known for their accuracy, detail, and life-like qualities. Jean Sebastian Giguere is no different. Posed in the throes of saving a shot, he comes with a net, the ice surface, a puck, and a water bottle. Again, it's the detail that sets apart McFarlane's figures from most every other attempt.

This item would make the perfect gift to a Mighty Ducks fan, an action figure junkie, and especially to fans of hockey in general. A great display piece and a wonderful collector's item. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars My, what big tusks you have, Man-Eating Haunter of the Pits
The Conan Series II Figures, McFarlane Toys consist entirely of characters from Robert E. Howard's only Conan novel "Hour of the Dragon" (a.k.a. "Conan the Conqueror" for those of us who read the Lancer paperbacks with the Frank Frazetta covers as our introduction to the character). The story is of Conan when he is the middle-aged king of the ancient kingdom of Aquilonia who has to fight a final battle against Xaltotun, a resurrected sorcerer. Armies are not going to win this one and Conan has to find the fabled Heart of Ahriman to defeat his enemy. Along the way he will meet a slave girl in Nemedia that he will make queen of Aquilonia.

Series II includes the King Conan of Aquilonia on his throne that is pretty much the last shot we have of the character in the "Conan the Barbarian" film (admit it, this is the one you want the most). The other Conan figure, Battle Conan (a.k.a. Conan the Warrior) and the reason he is suspended in mid air is that he is attack this figure, the Man-Eating Haunter of the Pits. The bases of the two figures connect to form an interactive diorama of Conan, armed with both a sword and an axe, dropping down on this beast.Yes, the figure can stand alone, but there is no reason for it to (unless you give it another target to crunch and munch).

The figure of the Haunter is six inches tall, but since he in squatting on his haunches it would be a lot bigger if it stood up.There are some bones clutched in its left hand (and skulls at its feet) while its right talons are reaching up to take a swipe at Conan. This is basically an ape-like creature with some nice touches to make it look freakier. The figure has some limited articulation on the left bicep, which is the same as the Conan the Warrior figure. The rest of Series II consists of Pallantides of the Black Dragon, Conan's field commander in full battle armor; Zenobia, the beautiful harem girl; and Xaltotun the Undead, the skeletal sorcerer.

Great but T-X breaks easily!
T-850 is mow more flexible then ever, but T-X can easily break. The helicopter has flashing lights and a lot of damage. T-X can light up when you push her back. T-850 is jointed at his shoulders, calf, waist, neck (but just a little), elbows, and right hand. I would not recommend the T-850 toy to anyone under 10 because of it being extremely bloody on the chest, stomach, one arm, and one leg. The face is also sort of bloody. For an overall rating it is very fun, not educational, and not too durable. I like this toy because it recreates the end battle, and that is one of my favorite parts in the movie. So I think that anybody who likes the end battle in Terminator 3 should buy this toy and have a grand old time playing the end battle and other games with this great toy set! ... Read more

mcfarlane sports, hocky two pack
this a average toy. it would be better if one of the players was a goalie. Then you would have a player shooting the puck and seeing if the goalie could save it. This puts up a good package but it is just boring. it is just ok.

go wongs go
I have just about all the wings fugures.....man they look good too. they do a great job with the details on these...and you really cant beat the price. as far as them using a different model for blake..yeah that is kinda lame of them. but if you really think about it...who wants to look at an Avalanche player anyway....i just got it for the Wing that is on it...WOOOHOOO go Wings Baby....Three Cups in six years...about to be 4 in 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO AVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This set helps to celebrate the greatest rivalry in hockey today. AVS and WINGS. Any AVS fan hates the WINGS and any WINGS fan hates the AVS. My only problem is what has been said before, the blake does not look like blake. The Blake is actually the same mold used on Scott Stevens from NJ in NHL series three. I hope that Mcfarlane toys will come out with a real Blake soon. Any AVS fan or WINGS fan needs to own this!...GO AVS!!!!!!!!!!

Impostor Blake
The reason Blake doesn't look too real is because he's a repainted version of a previous figure. I can't remember who it is (some Devil), but that's what McFarlane did for these 2-pack deals - he took old figures and repainted them either to just be guys with new jerseys or to be different players altogether. If you're gonna have to hand over an Andy, you should at least get the real deal. That said, Go Avs!

GO AVS!!!!!!!!!!
GO AVS!!!!!!!!!!! This item is yet another great Mcfarlane toy. This is part of the greatest rivalry in the NHL. Rob Blake does not look too real but everything else is great. ... Read more
