5-0 out of 5 stars If you get one baby toy, get this one
We bought this toy piano for my son when he was three months old. He is now 10 months, and it is still his favorite toy. At three months, he loved gazing in the mirror and watching the lights flash with the music. Now he can turn it on and off by himself, and he laughs and bounces up and down with delight. He drags it by the handle wherever he goes. He plays with this toy more than all of his other toys combined. I definitely recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Impatient Toy - 6 Months???? I dont think so
At 6 months old it takes kids a second to get there hands to the keys. If you dont hit a key within 2 seconds this toy starts talking "hit a key" or plays the song depending on which mode your on - and then if another 4 seconds passes it shuts off. Literally were speaking seconds here. Even if the fact the toy is impatient doesnt drive me bonkers enough _ I bought this toy to help her learn cause and effect - well she isnt learning that if the thing makes sounds and talks even when shes not touching it. Ive tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but my daughter ends up ignoring it too she likes to make things happen and grab at things and see the effect so she just ignores this toy. When she does actually touch it she touches the mirror if anything as that is the easiest part to reach and the only thing of interest to her. Im starting to think they dont test these toys with actual children

1-0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES this little piano!!!
Wonderful toy!! Covers a broad age range, too! A definite must-have!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Musical Fun
Our daughter loves this toy beacuse she can create her own music or play musical games with this toys and she REALLY loves the different instrument sounds it makes. Right now the flute is her favorite. This is a great toy for those what to expose their children to the wonderful world of music!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Fun Fun!!

    Great Choice!
We just purchased this for our one-year-old. She loves banging on the piano keys to hear the noise it makes. She doesn't know how to use the xylophone yet, but that makes the toy even better. As she gets older she will learn how to use it. This is a great choice. Even mommy and daddy will have fun playing with it. ... Read more

Great drum for your little drummer boy....
We bought this drum for our (now) 3 1/2 year old son about a year ago. He LOVED it!!! He played it every day, but after awhile, the drum head got a lot of little dents in it and it eventually just caved in. But, a year's worth of fun and music is well worth (...)

    Super cute, super fun!
We bought this for our 2 1/2 year old Thomas fan. It's really cute and rather reasonably priced. My son loves to bang on his drum, and dance around the living room. He plays it quite often and we've had it for about 6 months, so far we've had absolutely NO problems with the drum falling apart or getting dented up like some of the other reviews have mentioned. Bottom line: great toy for any music/Thomas fan.

    Great drum
This is a great drum! It hangs comfortably around the neck of the child & comes with two drumsticks. It has a good tone for a toy drum, and so far it has held up well (6 months) having one small dent on the side. My son plays with it often. Buy the book, "hands, hands, finges thumb" to go with it and your child will be charmed. I will read the book aloud and my son will beat his drum to the rhythm of the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars almost a great toy
The look of this drum is wonderful, and it is a lot of fun. My son loved to put the strap around his neck and march in his parade. The drum looks like an heirloom toy, but ours will never become one. It completely fell apart (it was not abused) and we were unable to reassemble it. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

It's tempting to say that this tabletop toy piano can make your budding music enthusiast into the next Schroeder. But in fact, it does the Beethoven enthusiast from Peanuts one better. Whereas Schroeder's piano featured only painted-on black keys, the ebonies on this brown piano really play. The piano is non-electronic, creating a sound on its metal tone bars that is refreshingly non-synthetic. It's made of solid wood, adding to the authenticity. The piano features only twenty-five keys in two octaves and it's no substitute for actual musical training or an actual piano. But as an introduction to music and as an inspiration to spark creativity, it's a winner. --Charlie Williams ... Read more

Now the young Clapton or Segovia in the family can give up air guitar, put away the tennis racket, and drop the useless plastic toy guitar that makes a noise like squirrels in a trash bag. This all-wood 30-inch acoustic guitar may have a lurid paint job that can best be described as "psychedelic camouflage," but it’s a good choice for the budding musician who is too small for the real thing. Metal frets and big, well-designed tuning pegs make it easy to tune and play, as does its thinness--the guitar is only just over 2 inches thick. The strings are all steel and replacement B and E strings are included. The 19 metal frets are marked with standard fret markers. --Richard Farr ... Read more

    Don't expect any accessories
This guitar is cute, and my daughter is thrilled to have it. However, it's supposed to be for kids who are just learning, and it came with absolutely no help whatsoever. No pick, no instructions on tuning, not even a little beginner songbook to get a child started. It's a guitar in a box. I've had to search online, call local music shops and ask friends just so she can use this guitar for its intended purpose. She thinks its great, but Mom's pretty disappointed.

    Great Value - nice tone
We are very pleased with this guitar. It is so well made, nicely decorated and such a sturdy toy, and has great sound as well. I can see it being a favorite for a long time.

    Adorable and Educational
My son loves his new guitar. My father and I are musicians and this little thing really works! I was concerned that it would be hard on the fingers and rough or twangy but it sounds good for a small instrument. My dad couldn't put it down, it was so cute. A child can learn to play on this. I would recommend it as a first guitar. You really can't go wrong for the price.

    Teacher Review

Toddlers love to hear their favorite nursery rhyme songs, and of coursethey love anything with sound effects and flashing lights. This electronicmusical toy is 45 inches long and 11 inches wide, with a large, one-octavekeyboard sporting a plastic handprint on each key and a red button above thatflashes when the key is played. The keyboard can be played in five differenttones: piano, bells, doggie barks, kitty meows, or birdie tweets, and in severalmodes: complete songs, free-play mode, or preprogrammed mode. The preprogrammedmode is an interesting feature that will help preschoolers (or their parents)learn to play the eight familiar songs. The tiny red light flashes, you playthat handprint, and follow along until--hey, you're making music! The musicalmat has a wipe-clean plastic surface, and it requires two AA batteries (notincluded). --Marcie Bovetz, mother and former children's librarian ... Read more

    good fun
My daughters(4year old, 2year old and 9 mos) love this toy. The keys are a little hard to hit but they seem to really enjoy it. The baby enjoys trying to play it but likes watching her sisters play it more.

A good example of a young child's keyboard
This is pretty good. It is one of those plastic - roll out type keyboard, which allows it to be both a very big toy and easily stored at the same time. The sounds are not brilliant, and as I assume they must have used samples this cuold easily have been improved (the quack only just sounds like a quack for example). The keyboard could also have been made better by including two octaves, and some black notes. If the makers want us to treat these toys as educational, then they must assume that they are a prelude to a child working with a piano type keyboard, so some sharps and flats would help. These two niggles aside, this is a fun item, and very easy for little ones to use.

    GREAT FOR PRESCHOOLERS!
THIS PIANO IS EXCELLENT FOR LITTLE HANDS TO PRACTICE ON AND FOR LITTLE EARS TO LISTEN TO. MY 2 LITTLE GIRLS (17 MONTH OLD AND 4 YEAR OLD) LOVE IT. I ALSO TEACH MUSIC TO A GROUP OF 3-5 YEAR OLDS AND THEY REALLY ENJOY PLAYING IT. VERY EASY FOR THEM TO OPERATE AND GREAT FOR FAMILIARIZING THEM WITH MUSICAL SCALE AND DIFFERENT SOUNDS.

    Not what I expected
This is not really a practical toy. My son gets discouraged, because you have to press on the keys really hard and in order to follow the music you have to be rough. It's like playing musical chairs with 5 bullies and a moving floor.

    not worth the price
i bought this for my 2 year old son. the sounds are tinny and overly loud. and it's confusing to use for any child under age 3. he only played with it for about 15 minutes, then that was it. so not worth the...price tag in my opinion. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars fun music
I bought this toy for my 10-year-old son for Christmas, and he loves it. The toy has several sound settings (different sound effects). They make the sound when struck in the air. The last 3rd of the drum sticks is rubbery, and my son has managed (somehow) to avoid actually hitting any furniture. Encourages musical play for children who have difficulty learning instruments. Highly recommended.

Lost user manual / instruction sheet
My 10 year old daughter really likes this toy. It's a lot of fun. But I agree that it is impossible to play without the user manual/instructions. We lost the user manual but I just called Mattel and they sent it to us electronically. In the US: 800-524-TOYS (800-524-8697) In Canada: 800-665-6288. They also said they could mail it to us if we had problems getting from our email. Mattel was VERY helpful!! Don't give up on this toy. It can be really fun if you take the time and use the instructions!

A Real Musical Instrument, NOT a Toy!
My 2 year old saw this in BJs and kept asking for it, so Santa brought it for him for Christmas. I think it's a good first guitar. He loves to strum it, but he definitely needs to be supervised to teach him to respect that it is a special musical instrument, not a toy. So far he has sat on it and used it as a drum and it's held up fine, but I don't think it would hold up with such continued abuse. It is recommended for children much older than he is, so I can't expect anything different. I do wish they made a smaller version of it so it would be more comfortable for him. For a better price than I see at Amazon, you can get a small Hohner guitar at a music store, which might be better quality, I'm not sure. Regardless, I am very happy with this guitar and I would recommend it for any child who shows a real interest in music. I would not buy it for a child just as a toy, unless you don't mind it being destroyed. I am planning to buy the guitar strap and will review that when I get it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars My daughter was SCARED of this toy
I had to give this toy away... My daughter would cry BIG tears whenever we turned this on. It may have been a fluke since we have other Leap Frog toys and she likes them...

1-0 out of 5 stars SO MUCH FUN
Our daughter loved this toy so much that we donated one to her nursery school. It is wonderful for teaching the alphabet as they pound on the drum and it even shows the letters as they pound on the drum plus the music and games are a great hit with our Toddler and the rest of her friends at school.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great for all ages
Great educational tool, and lot's of fun, not only does my 2 year old love this, but my older kids (5, 7 & 8) also have fun with it and learn from it. In less than two weeks they have already learned to count to ten in Spanish. I highly recommend this!

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't hold my daughter's interest
My daughter got this toy about a year ago (8 mos old). She kind of liked it then, but I hoped she would ger more enjoyment out of it as she grew. Now, she completely understands how it works and can turn it on, but she doesn't play with it very long. I would say she has never played with it for more than 5 minutes and usually for much less time. It is a good concept, but for it's selling price, there are a lot of other toys that entertain her longer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Learning Toy for an Infant
My daughter's eyes lit up when she hears the music turned on and see the letters and numbers flashing. You can see the wonder and interest as she tries to tap into the drum and laugh and enjoy having fun with it. It's as much fun watching her having fun more than she does with the toy itself. It's a great way to get exposed to a new language for the infant and i wish toys like this existed when i was growing up!! ... Read more

Designed for very young children, this is a charming piano withfour large, easy-to-depress square keys in green, blue, red, and orange. When the keys are played, the metal xylophone-style strips on top of thepiano produce sweet chiming sounds. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great starter musical toy!
As musicians, my husband and I hope to foster a love of music in our children, so we're happy Little Tikes makes musical instruments. I lucked out and got this at a garage sale, but however you get it, this makes a great first instrument for the young 'uns. The four keys outline a major chord and are easy to bang on. My daughter likes to have me sing back the notes she's playing! However, she is nearing 2 1/2, and is more than ready for the full octave piano--there are SO many basic tunes you can play on that one! So her baby brother can play on this one! We love just about anything Little Tikes makes, for their durability, colors, educational value, or just plain fun! If you can get only one, however, go with the full octave piano, as other reviewers have recommended!

    Star them out early ...
My daughter loves this toy. I got it for her because she loves to pound on things ... the keys are so easy to hit & she loves that she can do it herself. Higly recommend this toy.

    Great Starter Piano
Good size for little learning hands. Sure there are others out there but it is exciting to see your little one use this piano independently.

    Daycare Durable!
Smarter Toddler Daycare in NYC has a great music program so they have a couple of these pianos and I have seen my daughter and her toddler classmates really rough them up. This is an incredibly durable starter piano and it is easy for little fingers to press.

Great toy, small babies will enjoy
I haven't actually purchased this toy but my 6-month old daugther plays with it a lot at daycare. It seems to be her favorite toy there and I often leave her in the morning banging on the four keys too busy to notice anything else. It is a great early piano as it is easy to manipulate; the keys are wide enough for babies who are still working on hand coordination to target specific keys. Given that my baby loves it so much, I would give this toy five stars. I have come to the conclusion that baby reactions are the best way to evaluate any toys. ... Read more
