4-0 out of 5 stars Willie Mays the "Say Hey Kid" as a San Francisco Giant
I got an autograph from Willie Mays once at a giant baseball card show and what I remember is that he had the biggest hands I have ever seen on a person I have actually met.No wonder the man caught everything that was hit his way; he probably did not actually need the glove. That is a moot point with this figure of Mays for the MLB Cooperstown Series 2 from McFarlane Toys because he is at bat somewhere on the road wearing the gray jersey of the San Francisco Giants.Of course, I was sort of hoping that would do this figure of Mays wearing the home white jersey of the New York Giants as he chased down Vic Wertz's shot into dead center at the Polo Grounds in the 1954 World Series. But there are probably copyright issues or something like that, so this is what fans of the "Say Hey Kid" get and I have a different complaint: I do not think it especially looks like Willie Mays.Very few of these McFarlane sports figures are spot on, but they are usually in the ballpark. But with this one I just do not see it in the face, although the pose certainly captures Mays breaking out of the batters box once he had driven the ball into the outfield.

With the passing of Joe DiMaggio it was Willie Mays who was the obvious choice for the title of greatest living baseball player, although cases can certainly be made for Hank Aaron and Stan Musial. But Mays excelled at all phases of the game and when you talk about somebody being a five-tool player, this is the guy who serves as the prototype. Before he entered the Hall of Fame he had amassed 3,283 hits and 600 home runs to go along with the 1951 National League Rookie of the Year award, Most Valuable Player awards in 1954 and 1965, a dozen Gold Gloves, and a record-tying 24 All-Star games (remember, they played the game twice each summer from 1959-62). Certainly few people have played the game with as much enthusiasm and skill as Willie Mays.

The rest of the MLB Cooperstown Series 2 figures are for "Babe" Ruth of the New York Yankees, Jim "Catfish" Hunter of the Oakland A's, Cal Ripken, Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles, Mike Schmidt of the Philadelphia Phillies, and Willie "Pops" Stragell of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now that there is a Willie Mays figure we should be able to look forward to figures of Willie McCovey and Juan Marachial down the road. For now you can get this Willie Mays figure by itself or as part of a set with his godson Barry Bonds, which gives you the two players currently in third and fourth place on the all-time home run list. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Matt's Review
This toy is awesome. Some of the pieces come off but I still love it. My dad said it was better than my other toys. I got this toy because I got a good grade on my report card. I got to say, I love this toy.

4-0 out of 5 stars ''Batboat or Batjet?''
I HAVE A SIX YEAR OLD SON WHO IS COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH THE SHOW THE BATMAN.HE GETS UPBETWEEN 10 AND 11 EVERY SATURDAY TO WATCH THE SHOW.HE SAW THIS ONE EPISODE WHERE BATMAN IS CHASING JOKER,BUT IT LOOKS LIKE HES IN A BOAT(BATJET).AFTER MY SON HAD SEEN THE VEHICLE HE ASKED TO GO TO TOYSRUS. WHEN WE GOT THERE ALL WE SAW WAS THE BATMOBILE,BATCAVE,AND MOTORCYCLE.MY SON WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED.BUT WHEN I WAS DOING MY CHRISTMAS SHOPPING WITH MY WIFE WE NOTICED IT ON A SHELF RIGHT NEXT TO THE BATMOBILE ALONG WITH SOME NEW FIGURES.I PICKED IT UP AND NOTICED IT SAID 3-IN-ONE BATJET.I FIGURED IT WAS A TYPO.WHEN MY SON RECIEVED IT ON CHRISTMAS DAY HE WAS VERY HAPPY.ALTHOUGH IT SAD BATJET ON THE PACKAGE HE STILL THINKS ITS A BATBOAT.IT ALSO BECOMES A CYCLE WHICH I THINK IS PRETTY COOL. I GIVE THIS PRODUCT A 4 OUT OF 5 BECAUSE MY SON ENJOYED IT AND SO DID I.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT WORTH THE PRICE PAID
My 6 year old son spent his own money on this toy (about $20).He played with it for an hour and then asked to return it.He said that it doesn't have 3 toys in one, which one is led to believe from the packaging. It should be labeled 2 in one, which would better reflect the packaging.

The wingtips fall off when snapping the motorcycle part into the flight part.It was difficult for my son to put the pieces together.

The noises are intermittent.I checked the batteries and it requires 3 of the A76 batteries (also used for hearing aids). These are very expensive.

The toy is so specific that one is required to buy the exact Batman to use it.

This was a very disappointing purchase. We do not recommend this toy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, unattractive, annoying electronics
First off, corrections to the current description here on Amazon, this toy is NOT motorized, it only has electronic sounds. Also, the photos up now show a prototype with a few different details, the actual toy has a clear canopy with tech lines sculpted in and openings above the blue intakes, the small rear fins at the top are translucent, and the bat-symbols stick out a quarter inch since one is a button.

Now, as to the review: Once again I have been duped by packaging, just like this line's Batmobile before it, I bought the 3-in-1 Batjet in part because the box art made it look nifty, but the art is far cooler than the actual toy. The gimmick here is that the main jet comes apart into 2 other pieces, a motorcycle that is the main jet's cockpit, and the, um, "rest" of the jet, the empty jet hull - this last part puts the "3" in "3-in-1 Batjet" yet doesn't actually have a task of its own so it's really just 2-in-1 with a sizeable leftover part to set aside. The bike takes a little maneuvering to lock into the jet hull, a feat which might be too difficult for little hands, but once you get the hang of it it's not too bad.

This Batjet has futuristic but unattractive lines, it's too odd with its drop-down nose, narrow wings, and empty fan in the back; the removable motorcycle part while neat in theory is too shapeless and plain even with the techie bits near the bottom and large rear wheel. The underside of the jet has 3 small hidden wheels but is otherwise just as featureless as the interior of the empty jet hull. The motorcycle has a translucent tech bit on either side near the bottom reminiscent of the line's Batmobile, and the right side is the same except that you can attach a missile-launcher to the middle screw hole (this launcher and wide electro-blade missile seem very much like a half-baked afterthought). The small front wheel at the front of the bike is all plastic, but the larger rear wheel has a rubber tire; unfortunately the bike doesn't roll very nicely at all on any surface, and is very low-slung so it can't bank for turns.

Besides the separating gimmick, there's also an electronic feature that can get really annoying after a few seconds. The problem is that while in "try-me" packaged mode the button on the side of the bike sets off the 2 sound effects, in "play" mode the sound effects are driven by an overly-sensitive motion sensor so they go off constantly and won't shut up till you flip the switch, which is inaccessable when the bike is docked in the jet hull (the try-me button no longer does anything at all in regular play mode, it should have done SOMETHING here). Did I mention it's also a bit too loud? There's a switch on the bottom of the bike which is depressed when attached to the jet that lets it know to only make the jet sound, it goes off whenever it senses the slightest motion - which quickly becomes tiresome as it's a slow flyby sound which isn't all that exciting to hear repeating over and over. When removed from the jet, the bike makes a motorcycle revving sound which is cool at first but then just repeats the second half over and over unless absolutely still, it would have been a lot more fun even if this sound was constant while the toy was in motion rather than just sounding like someone hitting the clutch over and over and over and over, ad infinitum. And as if the motion sensor setting it off all the time wasn't enough, it has a second switch when you turn the rear wheel - thank goodness for the OFF switch.

Finally, what really makes me most displeased with the 3-in-1 Batjet is that the cockpit is too narrow to accomodate the arms of any of the 4 Batman figures I have from this line except Bruce Wayne, and only when he's not wearing his gauntlets! I should have known since none of the box photos show the toy holding a figure inside. Many of my earlier complaints might have been overlooked if not for this massive misstep, it totally undermines the toy (worse even than the Batmobile's similar problem).

My advice: save your money for something more fun and less annoying than this, it's like the designers released this one too early, far too many frustrations are had here. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Baseball's reigning Iron Man fields a grounder at short
I have to say that when I heard Cal Ripken, Jr. was going to be part of McFarlane Toy's MLB Cooperstown Series 2 that I was hoping they would show him taking his famous lap around Camden Yard when he broke Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games played.Instead we have Ripken, wearing the home white jersey of the Baltimore Orioles, playing a ground ball at shortstop.Notice his technique: Ripken is going to use both hand to catch the ball when it bounces into his glove and that his eyes are on the ball. That is the key detail with this 6" figure and represents the type of solid ballplayer that Ripken was throughout his major league career. No wonder this was a guy who played with one team his 20-season entire career in a time when most other stars were always finding they could earn more money to play somewhere else.

Ripken is not yet in the Hall of Fame, but his election to Cooperstown is a foregone conclusion when he becomes eligible next year.Ripken won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1982 and was named Most Valuable Player the following season when the Orioles won the World Series and won the M.V.P. again in 1991.At the end of his career Ripken had a .276 average, 431 home runs and 1,695 runs batted in.Before Ripken All-Star shortstops were in the mold of Luis Aparicio, Bert Campaneris and Ozzie Smith. After Ripken they were power hitters like Alex Rodriguez, Nomar Garciappara, and Miguel Tejada. But of course Ripken's biggest legacy is shattering Gehrig's record for consecutive games played, breaking the hallowed mark of 2,130 games and setting a new standard of 2,632.Breaking the record in the wake of the player's strike and the cancellation of the World Series in 1994 was crucial in restoring the faith of fans in the national pastime, which is why I would have liked to have seen Ripken trotting along waving at the fans while acknowledging the emotional standing ovation he received when they stopped the game after the sixth inning when the game became official.

The rest of the MLB Cooperstown Series 2 figures are for "Catfish" Hunter of the Oakland A's, Mike Schmidt of the Philadelphia Phillies, Willie Mays playing for the San Francisco Giants, Babe Ruth of the New York Yankees, and Willie "Pops" Stargell of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now that they are doing players in (or definitely heading for) the Hall of Fame it will be interesting to see when they come up with the Lou Gehrig figure to go along with Ruth or Ripken, depending on your associations. For now the figure from Series 1 that best complements this one is obviously that of Brooks Robinson playing third base.Of course, if there is one McFarlane figure that deserves a 5-star rating for durability, Cal Ripken, Jr. would have to be the one. ... Editorial Review

We thought this was the coolest of the three Batman Deluxe Figures. Tech Armor Batman wears graphite colored armor adorned with a silvery green breast plate and shin guards. He's articulated at the forearms, wrists, waist, knees, legs, and neck. He's got an arsenal of weaponry including a laser cannon, claw arm, disc launcher and disc missile. The claw arm, which snaps tightly shut, is attached to a big mechanical-looking arm that branches from one of Batman's shoulders; you can also swap out the claw for the laser cannon. On the other side, the disc launcher clips on to his forearm, ready to fire a green disc-shaped missile with the Batman emblem cut out of it. He's got a stern look on his well-sculpted face, under the standard-issue bat mask with very pointy ears. His cape is cloth and hangs a little weakly off his back. As with the other two deluxe figures, we found the accessories a little hard to use; there are no instructions, and other than the pictures on the packaging, no guidance as how to use or attach the weaponry. --Megan Sullivan ... Dark Knight with all the trimmings.
This is another one of mattel's repaints and hence Batman variations. But unlike several of the other figures, this one actually works for me. It shows Batman as a futuristic knight with a bunch of techno accessories. The color scheme also works great. One downside about the accessories, as with all mattel figures ther doesn't seem to be any instructions on how to place them on the figure save for the picture on the back of the box. And since, this one has by far the most accessories it gets a little confusing for kids (some adults also). All in all, the good outweighs the confusing therefore it's a good buy. ... Read more

Save your money!!
I bought this for my 6 year old for Christmas. It was broke within two days. Extremely flimsy!!

This toy stinks.
This toy is really flimsy and it stinks.

Not as bad as others say
I just got this and was able to assemble it pretty easily, and everything stayed together. It comes with stands and braces, and even on a carpet it stands up just fine. It has a lot of fun features, and while not durable for rough play, is still fun.

Mine is missing the web-trap trigger though, which is why I rated the fun at 4 stars. I called Toy Biz to ask for a replacement, but they are sold out. They were surprised to hear though that this occurred often (they have a customer service number, CALL IT!) but I am keeping it. It's still a fun toy.

Fun...Well sort of?
I love this toy no matter what they say. It is lots of fun SOMTIMES, not that durible though. It falls over quick. The launching is very hard. I still love this toy, I'll say it's worth...bucks!

Cool looking waste of money
No stars for this awful thing. My kids begged for this and we got it for Christmas. It was falling apart as we put it together. Finally my husband mounted it on wood with glue, nails and velcro (crazy that we paid 35.00 and we had to MOUNT it) and it stayed together a little better. It is all posterboard and plasitc chip pieces, if Spiderman tried to slide down the web, the toy would implode. It was pretty much in the trash can by the end of the week. Wish it would have been made better. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mattel does it again
Great Job Mattel!I'm glad to see that ToyBiz didn't get their hands on the rights to do this action figure. The head mold is great!Looks like Christian Bale; has solid detail, great articulation.I bought two, one to remain in the box and one to take out.I'm a collector and always look to see the kind of job Mattel does on action figures (the Max Steel line was awesome) and they really outdid themselves on this one.Awesome job, Mattel!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Batman!
I got this figure yesterday at ToysRus andwas pleased with it. The toy has great detail, it looks better than Mattel's other 18 inch Batman, with the base and accesories, and I thought that figure is cool too. There's only one accesory, a Batarang, but that's ok, less to lose! The cape feature is alright, it looks a little goofy, but the good news is that it is made to come off! It just pops off, and can go back on easily! The figure looks a lot better with the action thingy off. I also like the fact the cape is BIG! It wraps around Batman well and makes him look more imposing. I didn't like that about other Batman figures, the cape was always too small, batman has a large cape in the comics. Anyway, this is a great figure, if you like Batman and are thinking about this figure, go ahead and get it! You'll be happy with it!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best!
I've collected Batman action figures since I was a toddler, starting with Mego's 8-inch figure, all the way to the modern DC Direct High-End collector figures. I have to say, with the possible exception of the classic Mego 12-inch magnetic figure, this is my favorite 3-d interpretation of the Dark Knight. From his highly detailed movie-accurate costume to a dead-on likeness to actor Christian Bale, it's just utterly cool looking. Batman seems to have a slight smirk on his face, reminiscent of Bale's smile at the end of "Equilibrium" Plus, there it's loaded with articulation (joints, if you're not hip to action figure jargon) and he's got a cool "action cape" that opens up lake a glider(like on movie posters) so kids should have hours of fun with this thing. Batman also comes with a Batarang, my only(minor) complaint is the Batarang could use a holster in the Utility Belt, so kids don't lose it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Xaltotun the Undead, the villain of "Hour of the Dragon"
The Conan Series II Figures, McFarlane Toys consist entirely of characters from Robert E. Howard's only Conan novel "Hour of the Dragon" (a.k.a. "Conan the Conqueror" for those of us who read the Lancer paperbacks with the Frank Frazetta covers that we ran to once Marvel's "Conan the Barbarian" comic book reintroduced the character to a new generation of fans). The story is of Conan when he is the middle-aged king of the ancient kingdom of Aquilonia who has to fight a final battle against Xaltotun, a resurrected sorcerer. Armies are not going to win this one and Conan has to find the fabled Heart of Ahriman to defeat his enemy. Along the way he will meet a slave girl in Nemedia that he will make queen of Aquilonia.

This 6" figure is of Xaltotun the Undead (the short and sweet way of saying he is resurrected), who is brought back by the the conspirators Orastes, Amalric, Valerius, and Tarascus using the power of the magical gem called the Heart of Ahriman. The skeletal sorcerer comes with scepter and a book of evil spells, along with a base to stand on as he comes right for you. Obviously the figure looks like something out of an ancient Egyptian nightmare, but, of course, in the Hyborian world created by Howard he is a Stygian. As the end result of a long line of necormancers, Xaltotun represents evil incaranate in the novel, so it is probably a good thing that he is not aware that he has been raised from the dead. This is a pretty creepy looking raised from the dead Stygian necormancer.

Series II includes the King Conan of Aquilonia on his throne, which comes in a big square package as opposed to the blister packs like the Battle Conan figure. The rest of Series II consists of Pallantides of the Black Dragon, Conan's field commander in full battle armor; Zenobia, the beautiful harem girl; and the Haunter of the Pit (which links up with the Battle Conan to make the Series II diorama). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars There is a reason Battle Conan is suspended in mid-air
For the Conan Series II Figures, McFarlane Toys has put together characters from Robert E. Howard's only Conan novel "Hour of the Dragon" (a.k.a. "Conan the Conqueror" to those of us who read the Lancer paperbacks with the Frank Frazetta covers as our introduction to the character). The story is of Conan when he is the middle-aged king of the ancient kingdom of Aquilonia who has to fight a final battle against Xaltotun, a resurrected sorcerer.Armies are not going to win this one and Conan has to find the fabled Heart of Ahriman to defeat his enemy.Along the way he will meet a slave girl in Nemedia that he will make queen of Aquilonia.

Series II includes the King Conan of Aquilonia on his throne that is pretty much the last shot we have of the character in the "Conan the Barbarian" film (admit it, this is the one you want the most). However, this is the other Conan figure, Battle Conan (a.k.a. Conan the Warrior). The rest of Series II consists of Pallantides of the Black Dragon, Conan's field commander in full battle armor; Zenobia, the beautiful harem girl; Xaltotun the Undead, the skeletal sorcerer; and the Man-Eating Haunter of the Pits. This last one is important to know about because it explains why Battle Conan is suspended in the air on a really long support peg: the base of this figure connects with Haunter of the Pits to form an interactive diorama.

Battle Conan is shown in mid-leap, his sword in his left hand and the axe by which he rule sin his right. For a warrior in battle he is remarkably free of armor, which is usually useful under such circumstances, but it does allow you to enjoy the figure's rippling muscles with all those impressive veins with all those pulsing Cimmerian blood rushing through them in the heat of battle. The axe looks like some ornate wall decoration from a castle, so hopefully it will be functional in the next ten seconds. The articulation with this 6-inch figure is limited to the bicep of the left arm, which allows you to position the sword as you desire. To date King Conan on this throne is my favorite of the four Conans produced in the first dozen figures of this series. After that where Battle Conan fits with Conan the Cimmerian and Conan the Indomitable is, to coin a phrase, up in the air. ... Its Ok.
It is a flash figure. Until DC Comics and Mattel decide to do something along the lines of DC Legends, similar to Toy Biz' Marvel Legends, we have to be thankful for ANYTHING that comes out.

Unfortunately, however, there is no detail to this line of figures. The bright side is, they do resemble the animated series, in that it is as 2 dimensional, as a drawing.

Nevertheless, since there seems to be a lack of variety in the DC world for reasonablly priced superhero figures, some accolades and applause is deservant for Mattel. We can only hope they drastically improve on the design quality; and, thank them for not gouging us on this line. A much better value than the 4 inch versions.

Where's Green Lantern?
I think these large Justice League figures are great. I personally am not disappointed in the lack of articulation (joints where the figure's limbs can move), since I'm getting these for my very young son, and he doesn't care. Besides, these figures are done in the highly simplified "cartoon" style, which to me indicates that they'd naturally be less intricate mechanically. My GRIPE is that many of these toys are not shipped in equal quantities, so there are fewer of one than the others. I've seen tons of Batman figures, but not one Green Lantern, for instance. Many of these scarcer figures are horded by collectors/dealers, leaving people like me who actually want to buy them for their children with an incomplete set. It's sad this is the way the toy business works at times. STILL, these are great toys--very iconic, very well designed.

Great for collectors
If you can't afford the $... maquette, this is great substitute.
I say it's great for collectors becoz there are few points of articulation so it looks more like a statue than a toy.

Only cons is that the botton half of flash is a slightly different red than from the top. This is no noticeable from a distance though.

Morphing the Justice League !
WOW ! 10" of the Flash. These large Justice League figures are great for both the collector and for younger kids who can appreciate more figure to hold onto. As with all the Mattel DC Superhero figures released this year I cannot emphasize enough that all the figures need more articulation ! We know it can be done (see the Marvel Legends series figures). Honestly, at the price points these figures are at we as consumers are justified in expecting the much needed articulation. The figures are well done....Please give us figures which can be played with in the positions they are depicted in when they are in action !

FLASH!!!
This toy is so cool that kids should use it as a collectors item. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest third baseman of all-time crushing a baseball
I wonder what Mike Schmidt thinks of Alex Rodriguez moving from shortstop to third base.I also wonder what Honus Wagner thinks about it, but since Schmidt is still one of the living it would be his opinion that matters more in the current debate.Schmidt and Wagner would be my choices for the left side of the infield on my All-Time Baseball Team.Wagner's position was pretty secure until A-Rod came along, but not that he has started playing third base it could be Schmidt that has to worry about his status as the greatest player at his position who ever lived.

Schmidt provided a combination of power and defense at the hot corner that gets him to the top of the list (i.e., more home runs than Brooks Robinson and better fielding than Eddie Mathews).A right-handed slugger who hit 548 home runs in his career he holds the single season mark for the position with 48 homers in 1980 (A-Rod will not get the record for homers while playing third for a career, but for a single season?Do not bet against him after he belted three last night at the Stadium, but remember that Schmidt hit four in row in one game in 1976).Named to the All-Star team 12 times and the winner of 10 Gold Gloves, Schmidt was named the Player of the Decade for the 1980s by the "Sporting News." Enough said.

I think this is one of the better sports figures that McFarlane Toys has put out, showing Schmidt at the moment of contact as he is about to tell Mr. Spalding to go long.Schmidt is wearing the blue jersey of the Philadelphia Phillies and his number 20 (now retired). He was a tough guy in a tough town (is there a tougher sports town to be a home player in than Philadelphia? The only thing worse was Tehran when Saddam's son was running the Iraqi Olympic program), and this 6" figure captures him perfectly. This is clearly the best of the figures in this second series of current and future Hall of Famers.

The rest of the MLB Cooperstown Series 2 figures are for Jim "Catfish" Hunter of the Oakland A's, Cal Ripken, Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles, Willie Stargell of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Willie Mays playing for the San Francisco Giants, and that Babe Ruth fellow who hit a whole lot of home runs without ever taking steroids (not to mention ever playing a major league game at night, on the West Coast, or against an African-American pitcher: no wonder baseball fans like to argue out the relative merits of old-timers versus the ballplayers of today). If you missed Series 1 then you need to track down Yogi Berra, Bob Gibson, Reggie Jackson, Brooks Robinson, Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver. It is really great that McFarlane Toys is going back to these great old school players and I am waiting to see who they come up with next (Honus Wagner would be nice). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Arena
The ring is very durable, the entrance stage does not look like anything at WreStlemania, and they said a replica of the realversion to be seened on tv. But they released it before Wrestlemania XXIso they had to make their own. I got the one from last year it is just and old version of the new one. I advise not to get this save $10 and get the regular stunt action ring and use the money you saved to buy some figures. ... Read more
