Editorial Review

Building roads, railroads, and waterways is the object of thiscooperative picture-matching game. The 2-inch square tiles haveillustrations of the above printed on one side with some railroadstations and harbors, too. Each player draws 10 tiles and sets aboutmatching river to river, road to road and rail to rail. The first touse up all their tiles wins. But this nonreading game is really aboutcooperation. The different paths and combinations create so manydifferent possibilities that no two paths are alike. --LynneSampson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most requested game in our household
Even the littlest one (3 years old) loves R, R, & R. He doesn't understand the "game" part, but he loves looking at the pieces, and he has figured out how the matching works.
Treating it more like a puzzle than a turn-based game makes it fun for everybody -- you spend as little or as long on it as you want, and then you come back to it later.
Our household challenge is to use all the pieces in as compact a shape as possible. My husband is obsessed with putting together a perfect rectangle. Hasn't happened yet, but he keeps trying!

5-0 out of 5 stars Educational and fun game
This game promotes many educational skills, available to use even with very young children, including matching, visual discrimination, vocabulary building, sequencing and in addition it is a fun game to play turning out different picture representation every time!

4-0 out of 5 stars For puzzle lovers
Ravensburger products are easy to love because of their high quality. These game tiles (like Ravensburger's puzzle pieces) are thick, colorful with great detail, and wipe clean when you spill on them. I enjoy puzzles and so this is a fun game for me, creating a maze of rivers, roads, and railways that begin and end at houses, bridges, towns and dams. The game can last an overly long time, so my kids don't enjoy it as much. ... Read more

Fun and Durable
These are just great. Four 12-piece puzzles made out of very durable materials (see Pros below). The sturdy wooden box has four compartments under a sliding lid. Each of the four puzzles are theme related. These four are Fire Truck, School Bus, Steam Engine, and Jet Airplane.

Pros:
Easy but not too-easy puzzles.
Pieces fit well together.
Nice pictures.
Sturdy container.
Each puzzle has a different shape printed on the back to make sorting the puzzles easier.
Super durable. I did not realize just how durable they were until I found a piece in my dishwasher. Even after being washed the picture was fine and the wood in perfect condition.

Cons:
It may take a few moments to figure out how to fit an entire puzzle's pieces in a single compartment.
Lid does not lock closed.

My kids love these and you will too.

falls apart, and difficult to fit all the pieces in the box
My 2.5 year old son received this toy for christmas. Not even two weeks later, we have already had to fix four of the puzzle pieces. The pictures are coming off the "wood". The wood is more like layers of wood (reminds me somewhat of cardboard), which is probably why they are falling apart so easily. As another reviewer mentioned, it can be difficult to get the pieces apart after the puzzle has been put together, which also can be contributing to the layers of the pieces coming off. Also, it can be difficult to slide the cover back on, unless all of the pieces are laying a certain way in the box. This can be time comsuming for an adult to do, and nearly impossible for a two year with no patience. Overall, I like the theory of the product, but I doubt that it will last much longer unless we stand by with a bottle of glue at all times. I am most upset about the poor quality of the product since I gave several of these as gifts over the holidays. It is embarrassing to give a child a gift that turns out to be junk.

What a great deal!!
My one dissapointment is that the puzzles are much smaller than they appeared to be in the picuture when I bought this product.

My two-year-old doesn't seem to mind though.

Otherwise, this is a great deal. This is the next logical step for the 2-to-3 year-old who likes peg puzzles, especially the ones where there is a single image divided up into pieces, and especially if you've got a little guy who lives for fire trucks, school buses, airplanes, and choo-choo trains!

I love Melissa and Doug!
Their puzzles are well-made and hold up to my little 3-year-old puzzle fanatic. My ONLY criticism of this set is that the box is completely unreasonable for a child of 3 or 4. (The lid is hard to open and the compartments in the box are only barely adequate. As a grownup I got frustrated trying to fit them back into the box! A child needs to be able to chuck it in and put it away without a lot of assistance or all the need for meticulous fiddling.)

In general I love their puzzles and toys, but this is the second time when a box has only barely fit its contents without any additional space.

SO great, especially for the price!
My son is 2-1/2. He loves this puzzle set. It's 4 puzzles in 1 for just $9.99. What a deal!! He loves playing with them because of the fun pictures. They're totally durable. And best of all, they're totally educational. He can build most of them on his own and can sort them (using the shapes on the backs of the pieces) and put them away when he's done. Much more fun than a regular wooden puzzle. And a little more advanced for the kiddo who's inbetween wooden puzzles and cardboard puzzles. ... Read more

Stimulating
We received this toy for a gift for my 3-1/2 year old, and he loves it! He loves puzzles, and immediately figured out how to manipulate the pieces to fit the diagrams He never tires of it, although he'll occasionally get frustrated if the pieces slide out of place on the diagram. The pieces are very well made with no sharp edges. My only complaint is that it only comes with 4 patterns, and the cardboard "form" isn't very durable. Excellent choice overall, though! ... Editorial Review

Toddlers get a tactile treat with this wooden, four-piece pet menagerie puzzle. The cheery gray tabby cat, orange dog, and white rabbit all come with soft patches of furon their backs. (Unfortunately, the wooden parrot piece was left out of the sensoryfun--it comes with no feathers.) The challenge is for children to first match the pieces with thepicture in the slots and then fit them in correctly. The puzzle shapes don't sink all the wayinto their slots, and instead stay slightly raised, so they are easy for little hands to graspand lift. The careful handcrafting is evidenced in the brightly painted pictures and cleanlysanded edges. --Hannah Reynolds ... Read more

The "coating" over the letters is peeling off...
I was surprised that this received such high praise (and glad I didn't pay the retail price). We bought this used but in new condition, and after a few months, the coating on several of the letters is starting to peel off. If you don't put the letters in just right, the corners catch, and I think that's what's causing the damage. At least one of the letters (maybe N for Noodle) jams if put in upside down. And is elbow macaroni really a "noodle"? Not the worst toy out there, but not a five-star item, either.

A is for Awesome
This puzzle is one of the best we have found for age 18m - 3.5 yrs. It is now being used by our second child and is in great condition, very sturdy wooden pieces. It is fabulous for learning all sorts of things - the alphabet, hand coordination, new words, and you can use it to play I Spy as well. It's visually appealing as well.

Absolutely Beautiful!!
I am so glad I bought this puzzle for my 3 year old! The pieces have the most beautiful pictures on them and the larger sized pieces are just right for toddler hands. This is one of those toys that you'll want to keep forever.

abc puzzle gets 5 stars
My daughter got this puzzle when she was 10 months old. She is 15 months old now and can distinguish and place the letters in the correct location. She can slide most of the letters into place, if not she will just match them up and sit the correct piece on top. She will do the entire puzzle in about 5 minutes. I would recommend this puzzle for any age. It is never to early to get them started!!!

A creative and fun way to learn the alphabet!
I must admit I am biased toward Lights, Camera, Interaction toys. My daughter has several of this line's toys and for the greater part we have been very pleased with the durability and educational factor of their products. The same goes for this alphabet puzzle. Even though the raised letters do not have pegs they are easily removed from the board. I like that the examples for the letters are not your general toddler "cat" and "balloon" icons, which broaden their understanding of the letters. I sing the "ABC" song to my daughter while I point to the letters and then practice pronouncing the words to the pictures and alphabet. A great hands-on way for little ones to learn the alphabet besides from the TV! ... Read more

Latches are either too easy or too tough!
I bought this puzzle for my 2 year old daughter who LOVES puzzles. Especially the puzzles by Melissa and Doug that open and inside are hidden images or magnets.

The latch puzzle that we purchased was terrible. The sliding latch door lock simply fell out of the latch when you moved the puzzle - thus was to easy and way to loose. The most disapointing is the window latch and trunck latch. Both these two required adult hand strength to open! I had to hold the puzzle flat with one hand and grip the window latch with the other in order to manipulate it open. And I have very strong hands and it was hard for me (an adult) to open!! Perhaps it was JUST our puzzle. So I returned it. The other puzzles are sold in tight plastic wrap and so we weren't able to TRY another latch to see if it is not so HARD. So that is 3 defunct out of 6 latches that my daughter wasn't able to play with. That's half the toy that wasn't workable or child friendly - and NOT worth the money.

Fabulous--but be careful!
I bought this for my son was he was 14 months old, he is now a very inquistive 3 year old. Within a few weeks, he had mastered it (except for the one lock that is hard to turn). It is wonderful for practicing dexterity, and great for travel. The only thing is, once they master this puzzle, they can then open all the locks and latches in your home--which can definitely be a safety hazard!

Happy Toddlers!!!
Any toy that can attract the attention of a 1,2, AND 5 year old is a gem. All three of my kids saw this toy at the store and went BANANAS! There was only one available and they could not keep their little hands off of it.

It seems a little pricey for what it is, but scarcely have I encountered a toy that has this much of a draw. Especially, if you have spirited, very curious little children who like to mess with these sort of latches at home, anyway! I'm buying it for Christmas. A++++++++

Add this to your toy collection!
This is a great toy for so many reasons. I bought this for my day care and it is a definite favorite for children from toddlers to school age. It is especially fantastic for any child in need of OT.I have also found it to be indestructable.

An Excellent Toy for Hand Dexterity
I bought this toy for my son at age 18 montsh! He is a very mechanical child, and loves to find how things work. He's now almost 3, and still plays with this board. It's great to take in the car or while waiting in a doctor's office etc, as there are no loose pieces. You will not be disappointed in this educational toy. ... Read more

Fun Stuff
This is a fun toy. I took mine to a get-together with friends, and we had a lot of fun trying to, and seeing how fast we could, put it together in both d's (times ranged from five or six minutes to people giving up). Besides being a really neat idea, it's patriotic, too- something you can leave in the living room. If you like the rubik's cube (and even if you don't- I can never get it) you'll have a lot of fun with this. Definitely a 5!

Works your brain
This is a fun puzzle for anytime. I like to keep it next to the couch so that people can enjoy it when they have an unoccupied minute. It's actually quite difficult to master. Fun, though. I love the patriotic motif.

Fun!
This is a really great puzzle. It is complex enough to be a challenge, but it is good even for children. It is a cube first, with patriotic images on it, but this turns into a flat puzzle if you take it apart and put it back together in the right way. It is really fun!

awesome toy!!
This is a great toy for both the young and the old. A cube made out of various pieces can be taken apart and put back together in a flat, 2-dimensional puzzle. In essence, it's double dimensia because it will drive you crazy before you finally figure it out.

To make it even more interesting, patriotic pictures grace each side of the cube, and when you put it back together in its 2-D form, a surprise picture awaits you. Educational, fun and exasperating, it's the perfect toy for a gift or your family. I highly recommend it. ... Read more
