With two different configurations to choose from, the All Terrain Switchboard offers young riders more versatility than your typical scooter or skateboard. The Switchboard is shaped like an oversize skateboard with abuilt-in handle that can either be popped up or locked down. With the easy-grip handle in the up position the switchboard is a scooter for beginners; fold and lock the handle down and it's an off-road skateboard. The board itself is made of wood, with nonskid treads for extra traction, an extra-wide wheel base(14 inches wide), and rugged off-road wheels. I guess it's okay for _very_ young children...
I bought this product for my daughter for Xmas two years ago. It hasn't got much use because it is difficult to steer on a narrow sidewalk. Even so, the wheels have become very loose on their plastic trucks, and I can't find a way to adjust them! If you're looking for a scooter, skip this and buy another type of scooter. If you're looking for something to train a young child to ride a skateboard, this may be for you. I'd recommend this off-road model as opposed to the one with the regluar skateboard wheels - the off-road wheels can take more abuse and they can handle riding on grass and bumps. Because of its limited speed and steering, I wouldn't recommend this for a child older than 4. Older kids will struggle to keep up with their friends riding regular scooters if they're riding a Switchboard!

Thanks to all who wrote in. There were too many "accidents" to be ignored. The wide wheel base and the handle with a locking problem. It is always my luck to buy something and all the things mentioned that could go wrong - DO.

This is the worst toy ever!
It looks fun in the picture, but there is a major design flaw with this toy - the wheels stick out so far that when the rider tries to go they end up slamming their ankle into the tire. Within 2 minutes of using this toy my son ripped open his ankle. This toy should be recalled. Do not buy it. I would send mine back, but we had already thrown out the packaging.

Great "First" Skateboard!
I bought my son this skateboard when he was 2 1/2. I'm now shopping for a regular skateboard for him. He has used this toy for a year and a half now. It has survived some pretty tough play and a few bumps by the cars. My son loves this toy and it's usually the first driveway toy he goes for. He also uses this year round, which says a lot for New England. I highly recommend getting this board for a child who wants to do what the big kids do, but dosn't quite have the ability. This board taught my son how to balance and now he is ready for a regular board. I also would like to add that the mechanism for raising and lowering the handle is pretty simple and easy, but it really has to be done by an adult.

Nice Birthday Present
I purchased this for my 5-year-old boy's birthday. His eyes lit up when he saw it! It has great traction, much safer than a skateboard, even when the handle is down. We leave the handle up most of the time and use it as a scooter. The only problem we've had is when he puts his foot on the ground to scoot along he has to reach his foot out past the wide wheel that gets in his way. Wish I didn't buy
As stated above, this tips over-ALOT. We got this for my (already uncoordinated) three year old for Christmas. This is obviously an outside toy, but if you want it to last, keep it in doors. By March, all of the Dora sticker (the main reason for buying it)had peeled off, and now July, it looks like it is 20 years old because the wood is so rotted and chipped. We bought the metal and plastic Disney Princess scooter for my 5-year old-a much better deal. I can ride it. When I get on the Dora one, I fall over, too!

Terrible - poor kids
After purchasing a barbie razor scooter for my 6yr old daughter, I decided to purchase this Dora scootboard. BAD IDEA. We bought this at noon it was back at the store by 2:30. Poor girl couldn't go from one sidewalk square to the next. She kept tipping over. She was so upset. They clearly didn't test this toy on kids before they mass manufactured it. Save yourself and your child heartache. When you see this one, keep walking.

Not that great
My daughter loves Dora. Unfortunately on this scooter you can not steer the scooter when you ride on it. Also, the picture on the scooter of Dora peals off easily! But it is cute.

Injury waiting to happen
This is not a wise purchase for little ones. The location of the handle forces them to stand too close to the front of the board, and the wheels are too small. This causes the scooter to tip when the child leans to push off. On carpet, it doesn't move well. On pavement, it's serious cause for concern. Choose a skooter or board with an angled handle, and larger wheels closer to the front of the board.

Cute to look at-but don't get it wet!
We purchased this scooter as a gift for our three year old's birthday. She was SO excited when she saw Dora on a scooter! She rides this in our back patio area so as far as safety, etc..this has not been an issue. As for educational value, hard to say, but it has improved her balancing skills-for that reason, I rated it middle of the road on educational value. NOW, durable it is NOT! The first time the scooter was outside on the patio and it rained the Dora decal(the most important part of THIS scooter) totally curled up and the paint began to peel. This broke her heart! It's Wicked Fast
This Skateboard is so cool. I had tons of fun with it and it was a great deal!!!!!

Crap
This skateboard is extremely heavy and can ruin any kids dreams to become a skateboarder because it is impossible to do tricks on. The bearings on this skateboard do not spin at all, the griptape is horrible and the truck do not stay tight. This skateboard is only good for a child not willing to pay much money or for a beginner skateboarder.

Spider Man Skateboard
I think this is a good toy for someone who hasn't skated before. With the picture on the back I think it would be great for someone 7-10years.

it smells!!!
this boards blows, smells, stinks, and is [bad I bought it, and, stepping onto it, the board snapped in half, the trucks snapped, the wheels fell off and rolled away, and when they hit the washing machine (I was using it in the basement) they crumbled into about 4 or 5 pieces!!! Plus, when I picked it up, the griptape peeled off! Then the plywood started slipping off of eachother! Then, the screws broke off! Suddenly after that, the trucks broke in four! in other words, the skateboard disinigrated!!! DON'T BUY THIS!!!

one of my all time best buys
I bought two of these scooters for my (then) four and six year old children. They are still in use regularly, by my kids as well as neighborhood kids aged from 4 - 12! Although I have since bought them both more expensive and "grown up" scooters, these still get by far the most use. I actually thought when I bought them that at least my 6 year old would soon outgrow it, but for the price I thought it might be worth it. I can't think of any other toy that they still have from 3 years ago that still gets as much use as these do. These have been WELL worth the money.

Okay as a Scooter but Rotten as a Skateboard
My daughter received this item last year. As a scooter it works fine. It doesn't maneuver like regular 3-wheel scooters but is ok. Most have a handle that is adjustable- not this one. As a board, once you've figured out how to lower the bar you really can't get the proper board "action" from this. It's too stiff and is just not a skateboard.
Pro's- 4 a 1st timer, It has a nice wide board covered with rough surface to prevent slippage. It is sturdy. I don't suggest you leave it outside. Wood will warp. Use it as a scooter. Have fun! ... Read more
