Just ok
We found the box easy to put together, but the part that controls the lid was too stronge for any child to get back down. We had to buy a new one. Can't tell about the durablity since we just bought it for our grandchild.

Great Gift
I purchased this toy box as a gift for a 2 year old. There were full instructions, and full parts, included in the box. There weren't any damaged pieces (and the outside box itself had been opened/sealed, reopened/sealed, several times, as is frequently the case when you buy things - not a big deal). I put the toy box together, with just two tools (phil. head, straight screwdrivers), in 1 hour exactly. Glue is included for extra holding power. The hinge is centered on the lid, as opposed to the picture on the web site where it is shown off to the side. The hinge was tricky, but once on it worked just fine. The lid stays slightly open, 1/2 inch or so, and you have to put weight on it to close it all the way - great for little fingers. I recommend if you can to try to pre-drill, or pre-screw in the screw holes on the hinge, because holding the hinge in place and screwing in at the same time was tricky. Great toy.

literate people will enjoy
We bought this box because it matched our decor. We were concerned about the two comments that it was difficult to put together and the issues with the hinge. We normally don't leave feedback but did not want this item to get overlooked (...). If you read the directions and follow them precisely it is a cinch to put together!!! Enjoy:)

Cute Toy Box!!!
I bought this toy box at the store. It did come with instructions, however it was not easy to put together. There was also a part missing, so I had to make an additional trip to the store. We had some trouble with the hinge, however, we managed to get it on. My one year old daughter will put her head in the toy box and pull the lid,it will drop slowly on her head. I am sure it is no not perfectly safe.
The toy box looks just great in our living room and we also have one in my daughter's bedroom. It really matches our decor. It is one of the best looking boxes I have seen!!! It is functional and big enough. My daughter enjoys pulling her toys from it.
Overall I am happy with the box, however it is difficult to put together.

Disappointed and Frustrated
I bought this toy box for my daughter and it came without instructions, which made it difficult to put together. Even so, I managed to figure it out. However, the safety hinge didn't work. The spring in the hinge literally had no give, therefore, the lid wouldn't close no matter what we did. The wood sounded as though it was going to snap. Since we didn't have instructions, my husband and I tried putting the spring on in every way possible. I had to return the toy box because there was clearly something severely wrong with the hinge. Mom of 4
I bought this for my then 9 month old son. We have four children, the last which came 8 years after we thought we were "finished". With that in mind, we didn't want to invest a lot of money in "kid" furniture because it wasn't going to get handed down to anyone, but we did want some thing that was going to be sturdy and safe for a little one. This storage center is perfect. It has the durability of Little Tikes that we have trusted for 14 years now and it has a nice furniture look to it so that our sons room isn't made entirely of plastic. He can pull himself up on it safely and easily access the drawers where his books and toys are kept. Keep in mind he is still only a week shy of 11 months. I think it is a great product. I think the prior negative review must have been a fluke. It obviously is suppose to come with the assembly hardware and hopefully their problem got resolved. Little Tikes has always been a great company for our family and my only complaint is the discontinuation of items that we thought were fantastic!!!

Very Sturdy
I have a 15 month old son and a baby on the way (due in a couple of months). We needed to get a peice of toy storage for my son, but I wanted it to be very sturdy, meaning the furniture tipping factor. This peice is very very sturdy, I can sit ontop of it and it won't break! First let me caution everyone that the screws they do easily strip as one reveiwer previously said, and if you have a large electric screwdriver, either get a smaller one or get a smaller manual one as some of the screws will be hard to put in otherwise. This is the only reason why I gave this peice 4 stars. Putting that all aside, it is easy for him to reach everything, and it looks very nice in his bedroom which I love. It took me probably about 1 hour to put together and remove all the left over garbage from the area. Once the baby moves from our bedroom to her own room down the road, I plan on buying another one of these for our soon to be make shift play area in our extended living room!

Solid construction and great design
I really like this piece of furniture. It is a great size for kids and the design is complementary with most. I had some problems putting it together, but the instructions seemed clear. The screws were easily stripped, so don't give it too much torque. The wood was in good condition and very solid. I did need a second pair of hands on occasion to get the screws in solidly as some of the locations of the screws were a bit awkward. I definitely recommend, but for those of us less "crafty", make sure you have some help available

Excellent piece of furniture....
I order this for my one year old and it is perfect. It took a very little time to put together and was a very sturdy storage shelf. I don't have to worry about it tipping over. The storage bins are very sturdy not flimsy like some. Overall it is pricey but I feel well worth the money.

GREAT PRODUCT FROM LITTLE TYKES!!!
We have been faithful buyers of everything Little Tykes since our first child was born, over 8 years ago. I was SO excited to see that they had come out with wood furniture and thought we would give it a try! We are THRILLED with the quality of this product! It went together easily and it looks great!! My husband is putting the matching toy box together as I type this, and I am sure it will be equally as nice!! Great box!
I love this toy box. I bought this box together with the chair. My son love it, he even went inside the box. I never have any problem with the lid. It works well! the padded material make it safe for my baby when he plays around it.

Great Toy Box - No Problem here
I purchased this toy box when my son was 2 months old I have had no problems with it at all. My son is now 10 months old and activly playing with his toy box all the time. Its durable, nicely cusioned and has all safety features needed for the little tots. I give this toy box two big thumbs up!!!!!

awful
it looks very nice, but the cover comes off every time i open it. if i would have a chance i would exchange it for a different one.

NOT a good investment
We got this toy box for our son because we thought it was cute, and it had the safety features we were looking for. What a waste of money! First, within 2 days of getting it, the cover popped off, leaving the pointy part of the screws exposed. I called the manufacturer, and they sent me a new lid, but it didn't last more that 6 weeks, the same thing happened. This is a HUGE safety issue, in my opinion this box should be recalled.

Big waste of money

Not as nice as you'd think
From the picture this looks like it's a solid wood toy chest. Not so, the top is completely hollow and cannot support any significant weight. The only solid wood pieces are the edges and cross beams. Overall it's an OK piece of furniture for the price but don't be fooled by the picture, we were.

Mission Design Toy Box
This toy box as well of the rest of the mission set from Little Tike is excellant!! The quality is superperb. All pieces are solid wood not cheap veneers...the only exception is the hollow core toy box top WHICH MAKES SENSE!!! I would not want a solid oak toy box top of that size slamming on my 6 year old, 3 year old, or 1 year old's head. There is also a divot in the top edge of all sides so than fingers don't get pinched. The top still holds all three of my children with no problem, a combined weight of 120lbs. I am very happy as well with the table and chair set and and the storage cabinet. I plan to pass these on to my grandchildren, they are commercial quality. Erin

Great toy chest
Was looking for a nice sturdy, wooden toy chest to replace an overflowing toy basket and this was perfect. The quality of the wood is great, the design nice and simple, and the assembly wasn't bad at all. It took about an hour to do by myself while hubby was doing other things. The size is perfect for our house and the safety latch is a nice security measure. My 3 year old loves to rummage thru it for her toys and mommy loves the fact that the toys aren't cluttered everywhere. I highly recommend it.

You get what you pay for
For what you pay for this product, it's decent. What I like: (1) Great size. (2) Safety hinges really do work well. (3) For the cost, it looks good (and works in my dining room). (4) Previous reviewer is correct: the top is not solid wood (and neither are the side, front or rear panels). I think this is designed this way so that the top is lighter and the safety hinges work, but it does give you a sense that it's of lower quality. To look at it, though, you would never know this. You only realize it as you put it together. (5) Goes together pretty fast with a phillips and a flathead. (6) My nanny liked it and she's the biggest critic in our household, especially when it comes to safety. What I don't like: (1) The safety hinges attach to the rear panel, and it's flimsy. It wobbles with every opening. However, there are two hinges that hold the top to the rear corners that ease my mind on safety. I'm not worried about the top falling off or coming down hard. My 2-and-a-half-year-old had the most fun this weekend opening and closing this box and I rarely worried about his fingers. Now that he's opened it so many times successfully, I won't worry at all. (2) The die cut on the bottom was not correct, so we had to cut the bottom piece to make it fit (or send it back--what a pain). (3) The white plastic pieces that are designed to cover the tightening mechanisms don't fit. If I'm going to use them, I'm going to have to glue them.

Fits great in my living room
I was looking for a way to organize my son's toys because he has to play in our living room as our home is rather small. This definitely fits the bill. Beautiful piece of furniture
I bought this toy box for my grandchild, and very pleased with what I have purchased. It is not only a functional item, but a beautiful piece of furniture. It can grow with my grandchild, and can be used for a long time in his room. Not only can it be used for a toy box, but as he gets older it can be used for storage and an extra seat with cushion in his room

Stupid Money
When you think of all the money my parents already have to spend on their children, and then a toy box...all it needs to do is hold toys, that's it job done, yes this product is good enough but not for that price...what a waste of money. They would sell more if it weren't so darn expensive...I think it is waay overpriced. They couldn't gotten over more than two toy boxes for that kind of price....they could've gotten a toyu chest & the toys to fill it for too.

Very sturdy!
We bought this toy box for our nursery, and we absolutely love it! This toy box is very easy to put together (I assembled it myself, and I'm 7 months pregnant), and the instructions are very clear. This toy box is also very solid. I can sit down on the top and it doesn't give an inch.

Also, we really like the safety hinge that prevents the toy box lid from slamming shut on fingers. You have to push the lid to get it to close. We would highly recommend this chest for its durability, simple instructions, and its beauty! ... Read more

Excellent toy box!
I just purchased this toy box in the Toys R Us store for my 21 month old son. We already had the matching table and chairs. (He has some difficulty with those chairs, but it should be better as he gets a little taller). The storage chest is great-looking and very very very durable. My son can easily access his toys and figured out how to open the box in about 3 seconds. It fits in well with our decor and does not scream out "I am a toy box!". Don't hesitate - it's great!

Can't kill it!!!
My husband and I purchased this toy chest for our daughter when she was about 16 mos. old. It has withstood moving, rambuctious kids, you name it. You can't kill it. It will hold up for years to come.

Durable toy box!!
We purchase this storage chest for our ten-month-old stuff animals and the rest of his toys. My son is starting to pull himself up and he holds on to the chest for support and he doesn’t get hurt. I love the shelf to put some of his books to read. This is a second item I bought of Step2 and I love it.

Great Toy Bin
We purchased this for my 1yr old and within minutes she knew how to open and close the bin. The top dosent fall and hit her little noggin either. Its designed very well. She loves to take everything out and then put it all back in. She playing with toys now that she didnt bother with before. Great Product!!

Well worth the money

IT IS DURABLE, HUGE STORAGE SPACE, SAFE CORNERS AND LID.
THE CHILDREN CAN LIFT THE LID THEMSELVES WITH EASE, BUT
IF YOUR LOOKING TO KEEP THE BOOKS ON THE SHELF AT THIS AGE

Step 2 does it again!!!
We received this toy box as a gift for our son when he was 1. I love the fact that it also has the book shelf and top shelf as well as the door feature to "hide" the toys. When our son was younger we would pick up his toys and close up playtime for the day - he knew it was almost bedtime when we would put the lid down. The book shelf has not held books yet as they pull them right down but we do store some of the more played with stuffed animals on these shelves. They sit in perfectly and are easy to find for our children. The opening for the toy box is low enough for our toddlers to get their own toys in and out. We have had this toybox for almost 2 years now and it still looks brand new. It has only been inside and the color has not faded. My 2 & 3 yr old have climb onto, banged into, thrown toys at, and much more and shows no wear & tear. A little bit pricier than the regular toy box but worth it for the extra features of shelves and closing lid that does not shut unless pulled shut by someone. No pinched fingers or trapping with this one! Another great buy/product from Step2

Best Toy Box
I purchased the pink lid version of this toy box for my daughter when she was a little over 1 year old. She is now turning 8 and we still use it for her toys and books. I highly recommend this toy box. I have two older daughters who went through numerous toy boxes in their day. This toy box has been through so much and still looks brand new. Bravo to the manufacturers for this one. By the way no smashed hands either.

Very Functional-Particularly for a One Year Old
This is a great toybox. My daughter ()is able to reach the books on the book shelf. Also, the door slides out of the way so it will never fall on her fingers. The top shelf is great for her puzzles because the pieces stay put. I highly recommend this storage chest!

A good buy
My husband and I recently bought this table--and the chairs that go with it--for our two year old son, and it has been a big success with both child and parents. I appreciated that it arrived on our doorstep only a few days after we placed our order and that it took only moments to assemble: all I had to do was screw in the legs! My son likes the table's bright colors and removable star, plus he has had a great time drawing, putting puzzles together, and playing with his toys on his very own table. Marker and pen marks have wiped off easily, so the only real drawback we have seen with the table (and chairs, too) is that the paint has a tendency to chip off.
