Editorial Review The real crowd pleaser here is Knockout Kings 2000's career mode. Choosing from a wide varietyof options, you get to create your own custom boxer, who can fight his way to the top in career mode orparticipate in exhibition and slugfest matches. Before career fights, customized boxers can be improved bytraining, or playing various mini-games. (A memory card is required to save custom boxer data.) What robs Knockout Kings 2000 of the championship belt is its unbalanced 3-D graphics. Theboxers look great and move fluidly, but everything else appears flat and unfinished. Thankfully, fast gamespeed and responsive controls clamp down on the sightseeing, which is one sure-fire way to end up KO'd.--Joe Hon Pros: Reviews (30)
My advice: Don't buy!
However, I agree with other reviewers in that the game is not so true to real-life boxing techniques. (Of course, one can argue that realism in a video game is unimportant, just as in the movies...) I can win too easily just throwing combos. Not much strategy involved. Also, defense is impossible in the game. All you can do is evade once the computer starts swinging; bobbing and weaving are useless. This really annoys me. Another thing that bothers me is that the computer can throw just as many combos as you, but still have nearly a full tank of stamina. I wonder why George Foreman or Mike Tyson aren't included? I mean, Jack Dempsey, but no George Foreman? Come on! And Ken Norton and Joe Frazier are underrated in the game. This really bummed me out. Also, it seems odd to me that I can beat Muhammad Ali with, say, Leon Spinks, easier than I can beat Larry Holmes or Evander Holyfield, using the exact same strategy. And Holyfield--while a great heavyweight--is not as good as the game makes him out to be, in my opinion. But all in all, the game is good for hours of enjoyment. There are more things I like about it than dislike. I recommend it favorably. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review The story concerns the titular annelid, Jim, and his discovery of asuper-special space suit that lets him walk, jump, run, climb, andfight like a man. He's also got a machine pistol, and can grab his ownwormy body and whip himself around to reach high places. Decidedlywacky stuff. His enemies consist of psycho hamsters, crows (naturally),cats, and creatures made of garbage. His ultimate enemy is the evilPsy-Crow; he wants the suit from Jim and will stop at nothing to get itfor his evil queen. Earthworm Jim remains one of the weirdest 2-D side-scrollinggames you'll ever play, mainly because of the sheer amount ofinnovation packed into each level. Jim will bounce on tire stacks, usezip lines, propel himself using machine-gun fire, and utter an emphatic"Dang" whenever struck by the enemy. Power-ups include special weaponsand health, as well as free lives, which you'll need becauseEarthworm Jim is also one of the hardest games you'll find onthe handheld. In terms of innovation, creativity, graphics, and sound, EarthwormJim is head, stomach, and tail above most titles, but it doessuffer more than most from the Game Boy Advance's well-documentedlighting and screen problems. Because the enemies in EJ tend tobe small and fast, they can be hard to see without some lighting help.Regardless, this one remains a classic despite the intervening years.--Andrew S. Bub Pros: Reviews (30)
However, the very dark colors do not work well on the non-backlit GameBoy Advance screen. I have a number of other Game Boy Advance titles including Chu Chu Rocket and Rayman Advance. Earthworm Jim's levels and backgrounds, by comparison, are extremely dark, with very low contrast, frequently using browns, grays, dark shades of red, and black. This might work on a CRT screen but does not work well on the reflective LCD screen. Even in bright light, it is very hard to distinguish objects and see attackers coming to get you. Rayman Advance is more attractive and it is much easier to see the action. Earthworm Jim's animation seems jerky by comparison. And Rayman Advance allows you to save your progress. (Yes, I'm aware there is a cheat to allow you to select a starting level; this is not a good workaround, in my opinion). I recommend you buy Rayman Advance and avoid Earthworm Jim. Developers should be encouraged to optimize their titles better for usability on each platform.

Amazon.com Review Unlike most RPGs, you won't be controlling a warrior. Instead you follow theadventures of a bard named Mouse. Some of Mouse's occupation-related tasksinclude composing songs and playing rhythm games similar to Konami's GuitarFreaks. Most of the game has Mouse reliving the same day over and over(think Groundhog Day). Although he's stuck in a time loop, he retains theitems and allies acquired each time he relives the day. It's an interestingtwist, but the plot eventually devolves into the usual saving-the-world drivel. The game's graphics aren't going to impress anyone--there are several PS Onegames that look better. Further hampering playability are several lulls in thegame where you have to wait until a certain time before you can progress. Thiswouldn't be so bad if there were engaging side quests for you to take, but therearen't, so you're often stuck standing around town. When the action does pickup, it's often brought to a halt by extremely long load times. These frustratingaspects combined with the game's difficulty make it a poor choice for casualgamers. --Raymond M. Padilla Pros: Reviews (38)
The repetitiveness of the game can be annoying (being stuck in a time loop) but after the first week you don't have to go to any of the events again unless you want to or are trying to recrute a certain character. Which makes this game very non-linear. The way you recrute characters is by convinsing them they are repeating the same week over and over. Its ok if you miss someone one week because you can get them next time. Don't forget the mini games. I am not very good at the guitar mini game (which reminds me of guitar freaks) but thats ok. Its frustrating not to get a good score but it doesn't sffect the game's out come. Another mini game (there are others) is the drinking you play with Clair (a very inportant character to have). The first 9 times you beat her you get a piece of the map. While were on the subject of the map, this is probably the most anoying part of the game. Find the different peices for the 'world' (island) map can be difficult and tiresome. Its true the graphics aren't what you would expect for PS2, but really the're just different. Ephemeral Fantasia has a cartoonish anime look (which I like.) I noticed this game hasn't been getting the best reviews. I think people are being to hard on Konami. I find this game challenging but entertaing and fun too. What this all boils down to it that some people like it and some don't. Deffinetly rent it first. If you like non-linear RPG adventers deffinetly give it a try. Don't reviews sway your opinion until you try it for yourself. Try to keep an open mind.

Amazon.com Product Description Battle in winner-take-all competitions on stages across Japan, pummeling opponents and striking dramatic poses to gain the crowd's favor and maxing out the popularity bar to perform devastating special attacks. The game includes 24 characters, each with different weapons and unique attacks such as fireballs, fire storms, lightning, and tornadoes. Life and popularity bars affect attack abilities. Game modes include adventure, time attack, tournament, and versus. Graphic effects such as bump mapping, particle effects, and vertex shadingproduce lifelike warriors and spectacular action. Reviews (28)
It did turn out to be worse than we had thought, but not by much. Despite the mention of a bunch of characters, the game is pretty boring. Some of them have special moves, but most of them done, and sometimes what they call unique character looks the same as another character, it just has a different name and wardrobe. The single player mode is boring, you just try and earn a bunch of money so you can skip stops on the way to the capital, but it seems like no matter how much you earn, you can never move more than like 8 stops ahead. It's like the computer calculates how much traveling expenses are in such a way you're forced to play so many rounds. The thing that was the worse for me was the soundtrack and noises. The Warriors make this sound that completely destroys any hope I had for concentration. I just laugh when they make their fighting whoops and dances because it sounds funny. Overall I have to give it two stars. The first is because it's a low cost two person fighter. If you're short on money, but you want a game that will let you battle it out with another person, this fits the bill. The other star is because you can laugh at the game. It's ludicrous, the sounds are hokey, the music is annoying, and the characters are either cookie cutters of each other, or so wild they're laughable.
Ok, let's say if I were on a blinddate and my date is this really ugly girl- what should I do? Should I just tell her that she's fat and ugly and I have no interest whatsoever so have a nice day? Or should I at least see if she has a good personality? If you were on a blinddate with one thing in mind, to have a steamy date with a hot babe- then it's unfortunate that you met this ugly girl. However, if you don't mind the outer appearance and are looking for something substantial, then give yourself some time and you will see she's not that bad after all. Not bad after all. You know, Niki was a really hot girl, yet she was high-maintanence(expensive) and arrogant(ok, because of her implant), didn't last that long with her. If you are looking for a 2D game for XBOX and looking for something simple enough yet gets deeper to play with your kids, this would be an excellent choice. Please, don't judge this game with 1 min. of your playing time. GET TO KNOW HER, MAN! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review Quake III Arena is the first title to allow multiplayer, real-timenetworked gaming between Dreamcast and PC players. Hooking up through theSegaNet servers, players can go online and shoot it out with other people aroundthe world for the first time in console history. (We played with a keyboard anda mouse--the only way Quake III should ever be played--and with them weexacted my punishment on more than just a few unsuspecting patrons.) A full slate of 25 nasty warriors has been rolled out for the Dreamcast game. The weapons--which range from shotguns and rocket launchers to lightning gunsand plasma guns--and effects also are packed in tighter than Charlie Tuna in hiscan. It also has all of the nifty springboards, quad damage, space-age dungeons, and everything that we loved about our favorite shooter on the PC. The Dreamcast version has a large variety of gameplay options, including singleplayer, free-for-all, tournament, team deathmatch, and capture the flag, most ofwhich are open for play in two-to-four-player split-screen mode. The game'srendering engine achieves smooth and realistic texturing, and stunningenvironmental effects. The environments in particular are great, with dazzlingsky textures leading the way. Also, the geometry and large, detailed textures ofthe character models make them the envy of the console world. The character's movements in Quake III Arena didn't feel nearly as smoothas in the PC version, because of a rather slow framerate. Compared to the PCversion, this one makes you feel like you're battling with one leg in concrete. While it's good for console and ambitious even for the Dreamcast processor, youfind yourself losing targets that you feel you should track with no problem. Onecan forgive Quake III Arena if at the end of the day you have somethinggood to play online. With Quake III Arena, something good this way comes.--Todd Mowatt Pros: Reviews (43)
P.S If you see "TREND" on a seganet server, prepare to be fragged! =)
The game play is a little too fast and control on the controller (although it can be customised) is difficult. Aiming and tracking enemies becomes unbearably difficult with the controller and brings the game down more than anything else!! Nothing is more frustrating than trying to dodge and return fire through strifing, it is accomplished much easier in Outtrigger! Overall Quake Arena is a serious let down!! I have Quake 2 on my PC and enjoyed the single player missions which are in NO WAY found in Quake Arena! I was really excited to get this game as I read all the over-hyped reviews on this site and others...but my heart was broken by frustrating and frantic speeds coupled with annoying aiming or lack of aiming mechanism. I was first introduced to the genre through the multi-player Deathmatch of Rainbow 6: Rogue Spear on the DC and that was a much better experience with my friends. The idea of stealth, sniping, throwing grenades around corners and planting c4 all made that title a much better investment. Quake Arena lacks ALL that and exchanges it with fast running... shoot... run out of ammo... run... run... shoot with no strategy... run etc. You get the point. The game simply has you running VERY fast and struggling to process all the action. On the plus side the game has good graphics, sound and the ability to turn blood OFF...thats it the positives end there! My final word is simply this..."Look elsewhere for a good FPS"

THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER
Sports Fun At Its Portable Best Where the game delivers absolute enjoyment is in the Neo Geo Cup mode, where you can play international tournaments, and with money gained from winning matches, buy items that improve the abilities of your team. Additionally, goofy characters show up to offer you items for a price (or sometimes try to steal what you have!). You can get fan mail if you're doing well, and at times you have to motivate your team with a pep talk. Winning the first tournament isn't too hard with some practice, but succeeding tournaments ramp up the difficulty and aren't easy to win without the right items. The action is intense, and focuses a lot on individual contests for the ball -- passing is a little difficult because you see so little of the field. But discussing specific facets of the game doesn't do justice to just how much fun this game is -- I've logged dozens of hours while traveling playing this game, it's just so much fun, and the constant quest to gather that latest item that propels your team to the top is addictive. This and Metal Slug are among the must haves for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. ... Read more

What I mean is that the only reason I rated this 4 was because the controls are very rusty and hard to do. If you haven't played Resident Evil or Dino Crisis then you'll have a hard time with the controls and it will be very frustrating. So don't go and buy it if you hadn't played Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve or any of those Survivol Horror games. Although the gaming is very good and you'll enjoy it. Editorial Review While the supported expansion pack gives Ready 2 Rumble Boxing crisp, high-resolution graphics, the game's speed could have used a boost as well, being distractingly inconsistent at times. And while the game certainly sounds good, the digitized dialogue can be annoyingly repetitive, none more so than sports announcer Michael Buffer's patented "Let's Get Ready to Rumble!" chant. --Joe Hon Pros: Reviews (17)
"Ready 2 Rumble Boxing" has pretty good graphics and somewhat realistic character movements. Its control is easy enough to master in a short time, and the sound is probably the best aspect of the game. The man who is famous for the line: "Let's get ready to rumble" is the announcer and you can tell it's really him by the speech. To make the game even better, there's a few hidden boxers such as Kemo Claw and a huge creature that you can find by putting in the right code. There's also a random select if you're not sure what fighter you want. "Ready 2 Rumble Boxing" is definitely the best boxing game I've ever played, after you get used to the controls and memorize how to do certain punches, it's a lot of fun. If you like boxing games, I recommend getting it as soon as you can. ... Read more

But I also grew up playing with army men, creating intricate toy forts and staging battles in dirt dug-outs. And this game totally caters to that sense of nostalgia. I love the graphics. I love the little details. I love the idea of combat between plastic men using toy weapons. The gameplay is great and, on the most difficult level, actually requires a decent amount of strategy. It's a game I can always go back to and enjoy and getting a good fight going between two players is about as fun as a game can get. A modern classic.

The best thing about this game is the amount of Wrestlers. There is about 30 at the start of the game and there are loads more to win. When you have won them all there is about 60. Mayhem offers 12 pay-per-view arenas, more than any other Wrestling game I can think of. There is Bash at the beach, The Great American Bash, Starrcade, Spring Stampede and loads more. The game also features Monday Nitro, Thursday Thunder and Saturday Night arenas. One thing I can't understand though is why they didn't put the Mayhem arena on, the game is called that isn't it? Some people have complained about Mayhem's gameplay but I like it(yes!) because it is quite slow so you can figure out the controlls and get prepared for the next move. The graphics are cool and the camera angles are really ace. Mayhem's create a Wrestler mode is really good. You can create Zombies and Monsters as well as Human Wrestlers. When you have created a Wrestler put him into a match and see how he fares against WCW's Superstars! In the game there is a Pay-Per-View password screen where you type in a password and it takes you to an already made Pay-Per-View. Over all Mayhem is a fantastic game. The only bad thing about it is there are no cage matches and no hidden rants like on the WCW Thunder and WCW Nitro. My final thing to say is this: Buy it if you're a WCW fan, don't if you're not. And if you've not a fan of Wrestling don't buy it either. Happy Grappling!
1. Sound. The best sound effects I've ever heard on a wrestling game. I've played many titles in this genre, including Wrestlemania XIX and Legends of Wrestling II, and Mayhem is superior to both. The crowds roars and jeers, the thuds and slams, go together to make a fantastic atmosphere. Even better is the two man commentary, and it's like you're watching it on TV. 2. The wrestlers. Coming from the late 90's WCW era, this has got some of the biggest superstars in wrestlin history gruped together. Hollywood Hogan (as he was then), Macho Man Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Sting, Bret Hart, Lex Luger, Goldberg, Curt Henning, Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner.....it's a great line-up. I'd say it's the best line-up in any wrestling game until this years Showdown: Legends of Wrestling. There's 50 wrestlers all together. 3. The wrestling itself. Don't expect super-fast gameplay. Don't even expect the pace of the latest wrestling games. Expect the methodical, paced action of late 80's wrestling. It's spot-on. I haven't seen such an accurate representation of the speed of wrestling in any other game. 4. It's for PS1, so it's incredibly cheap now. I picked up a secondhand copy from this very site for a mere £1.99. Two pounds, and to think it used to cost about £34.99 originally. As far as value for money goes, it's a five star purchase. Now the negatives. The graphics are weird and not especially attractive - the crowd is just a flat block of coloured blobs. The weak collision detection means your punches will often miss at point blank range. There's no season mode, you just fight for titles and defend them. The Create A Wrestler mode is so basic you won't be able to make any of your favourite wrestlers not in the game already. You can, however, make a knight in armour... To sum up, WCW Mayhem is not the greatest wrestling game on the market. No matter what console you have, there is atleast two better games avaliable. For the PSX/PS1, WWF Smackdown and Smackdown 2: Just Bring It. For the PS2, four Smackdown games, and three Legends of Wrestling games. For the XBox, WWE Raw & Raw 2, and three Legends of Wrestling games. And for the GameCube, Wrestlemania X8 and XIX, and two Legends of Wrestling games. Nevertheless, I'm still playing Mayhem today and I have both Wrestlmania XIX and Legends of Wrestling II on my shelf. The commentary, the wrestlers avaliable and the accurate pace of real wrestling make this unique and enjoyable. Add to that the fact that it's ridiculously cheap (even if you only played it for one night, you'd still get value for money), and you're looking at a worthwile purchase.
I am not a big fan of the new manner of controlling your wrestler built into this game; it is much less intuitive than older WCW-based wrestling games, and I often find myself able to come up with only a very limited number of moves; still worse, I constantly find myself repeating moves I had no intention of repeating. The announcers do at least have fun with this, talking about move repetition in disparaging terms as it is going on. Their overall banter, though, while quite funny at times becomes repetitive itself after a short while. Even the overexcited shouts of Schiavone declaring a victory in the ring grow stale, as do his constant calls for someone to stop the bloodbath and call for help. I never get tired of the Brain, though; he is always hilarious. I don't think the graphics here are much of an improvement over older games, either. There's really not a lot of difference in audio and visual between WCW Mayhem and earlier WCW games for the Playstation. You can fight backstage now, which is cool, but the graphics are largely unimproved and the gameplay is awkward and sometimes annoying. I would much rather play the older WCW/NOW Thunder than I would WCW Mayhem, when it comes right down to it.

There is one very cute thing in the program. EA put in a boxing stadium in Redwood Shores California where they are based. The funny thing is that there is no bxing arena in Redwood Shore!! It is just where EA is based. I thought that was a nice touch. Go ahead and get it, just don't expect it to be an earth shattering experience.
